I remember back in the day when we used to do bouncing stretches during gym class warmup. Then at some point, the powers that be deemed it dangerous and it was no longer a thing.
Is it dangerous? Or is it a viable way to build elasticity, mimic real world forces/situations, and help you get further into your flexibility?
As far as danger and risk, I think it's a case of the dose determining the poison. It's definitely an advanced stretching concept for someone who is a beginner. However, for someone who is able to control this I think it's absolutely useful, both for increasing flexibility and athletic performance.
What do you think?
This is an excerpt from part 3 of my 4 part hip health/mobility online class series that focused on dynamic flexibility work.

Agree completely. It's only ever a question of whether the student can feel where the limits are; many cannot. Liv and I always use movement at the end of the ranges of movement, and have taught this for many years. And the most important reason to use bounces and other movements is that in daily life and in ALL athletic activities, flexibility requirements are dynamic, and not static. And this is supported by the research in proprioceptors: there are position-dependent receptors, and *time*-and-position dependent receptors-both need to be practised. Great video.

Just like knees over toes. I went to about 10 physical therapist and every one said not to do that. I became so weak in that ROM and it only made my knee first. Luckily I found that knees over toes guy. I don't think I'd be playing volleyball if I didn't find him.
