Hey Brewzle another tip is if your Bourbon friend shares a local owned honey hole, be their Bourbon friend and tell the store who sent you so they know who is sending them business. Could help them out with allocated hook-ups or any number of other ways. Especially someone who has a nice size KZbin channel. Keep up the good work and entertaining content.

New to the allocated game. Was talking to an old acquaintance and neither of us knew the other was into bourbons. He's one that goes into the local BevMo frequently and has a relationship with the manager. He knew that the Buffalo Trace allocated was coming in soon. When he got the word, he let me know and I was able to pick up an EH Taylor Small Batch, an Eagle Rare, and a Blanton's. All three for a total of about $185. Can't wait to give them a try. Love the videos. I'm learning so much. Thank you from California!

Similar to the last tip - small communities where the average income is lower don't tend to turn over their allocated bottles nearly as quick. You find the normal museums in those communities but I find they are FAR more willing to negotiate. Liquor stores in high income stores don't keep product on shelf if priced reasonably and they don't negotiate. They have plenty of customers coming in to the shop capable of paying secondary. When you are in a small factory town there are very few people with the disposable income for this hobby. Those are where I tend to pick up Blanton's for close to retail, cheap EHT, and other limited releases. The stores might only get a couple bottles a month but their clients are just there to buy Fireball and lotto tickets, not Blantons.
@wakes_inc10 ай бұрын
This matches my experience as well. Even in larger cities, if you can hit some of the more low income areas, some of the higher end stuff sits on the shelf.

It’s crazy how big bourbon has gotten in the past 10-15 years or so. A lot of bottles you can’t find nowadays were readily available. It blows my mind that you can’t find Buffalo Trace or Blanton’s nowadays.

Agree on building the relationship with a local store. And sometimes buying even the higher priced beer, mixers and dodads also help on the road to the allocated. Even paying a bit more… ok, a lot more, for harder to find bottles show you are interested in keeping them in business. We’ll see if it works out this season…. Thanks for the tips, great vid.

If you’re driving through Kentucky it’s worth the 2-3 hours of driving along the bourbon trail/distilleries in the morning hours. I got a Michter’s Toasted Rye, Old Fitzgerald 10 Year decanter series, Blanton’s, Weller, Four Roses Single Barrel Private Selection, Booker’s, and Knob Creek SBS (both bourbon and rye), all around or just a small mark up from MSRP. A lot of these are limit one per person per day/90 days, etc. but it’s still a way to get a handful of good/somewhat rare bottles fairly easily. Edit: also, if you’re lucky you’ll show up when the distillery has something really rare and good for sale.

I did not read through the other comments so I am sure that this has already been mentioned, and you knew it was coming. Dude...the Sagamore Double Oaked is the truth! That stuff, even at 96 proof, has some of the best flavor of any whiskey I have had this year. My wife and I opened a bottle of it three days ago and had a pour for the first time. It was not the only pour we had from that bottle that night. The next day I went and bought a back up bottle. We have not, typically, been rye people. Some of my favorite bottles this year have been Stagg (jr) 22A, Wild Turkey 12 year (over seas), and some of the Barrell picks from t8ke among other things. This bottle will easily slot into the top 5, possibly even top 3, that we have tasted so far this year. Very impressed with it.

Hey @Brewzle ! Just walked out of Oviedo's a minute ago! Had a great experience with the same guy. I walked in, introduced myself and said "you know your KZbin famous?" He laughed a lot and seemed to enjoy that. He's gotten quite a few customers who've mentioned you there. After trying some things (even the single malt Australian whiskey) I got a Penelope toasted rye and a Store pick New Riff single barrel. Checked out Legacy Liquors as well and had a great time with the guy from your video as well, he was very helpful. Picked up a redwood empire in brewzle classic fashion. Got to try some other bourbon as well. I turned 21 three months ago and I've already got 2k worth of a collection going, as well as a nice selection too. Thanks for the hunting tips, Roll Tide!

OH MY GOD - The comment about bourbon friends and honey hole hoarders... so freaking true. I'm a part of a local bourbon group on FB with like 13k members. Most members just post their haul and REFUSE to share where they make finds. They are there to get all the help from others without providing anything useful to the group. Drives me absolutely nuts. If it were my group I'd just boot anyone who doesn't help the community. Selfish posts of "haha look at all the allocated bottles I found" doesn't help the group. I know a good number of those posts are people who went into a liquor museum and overpaid for hype bottles of whiskey and are ashamed to admit it publicly though.

I’m lucky enough to live near two local stores that have access to allocations and do store picks. I always share with anyone who asks. I do love this channel and one other for things to look for to try myself. This is my fave because of the hunting aspect of it. The personality comes through big time and I’m thankful it is straightforward. I learn a lot about label reading and tasting. It makes me travel further out looking for tiny stores to see if I can find something unusual and rare. Def don’t have the budget to do it as much. My latest find was a col eh taylor for 48 and calumet 16 for 140. I try to speculate a bit too and see if something new for 50 or under becomes popular and gets bought up. When I find it I will be sure to share where😜
@chupacabraracing181 Жыл бұрын
I mean, maybe they don't want to narc out there honey hole and have tons of people go up there and hound his friend that works there for allocated bourbon when the store only gets 1 or 2 bottles here and there and the friend/worker holds it for them. This is my case.
@jreezy70 Жыл бұрын
Problem with sharing is that now 500 of your bourbon group ‘friends’ swarm your honey hole and eventually you’re SOL. Same reason fisherman don’t share their favorite fishing hole location, it gets over fished. But I do agree a lot of posts are just to flex, and they either overpaid or are gonna flip it and never open it.

Two tips I have for your local bourbon store that sells at MSRP and does barrel picks. Buy their picks! Also, don't be afraid to buy non-bourbon items. I pick up wine for my wife while I got to my "honey holes" even if they don't have any bottles for me that day.

I literally just moved from central FL a couple of weeks ago. The best FL whiskey I had by far was St. Augustine straight bourbon. Steer away from the port finished one, it's harsh as hell. After years of trying all kinds of techniques to “build relationships,” I’ve had the best luck with two best practices: 1. Know when the store gets their delivery and visit that day; just ask when it comes weekly, and ask what’d be the best time to come through so they have time to unload it. 2. Day hunt! If you’re only going in after work, odds are someone bought that allocated bottle at lunch.

These videos are great. I'm Canadian living in Ontario we have a province (State) wide liquor store that is the biggest buyer of booze in the world but we get a terrible whisky selection. No chance to get store picks or allocation. One benefit we do get is Buffalo Trace sits on the shelf daily for 45 bucks Canadian that'd be 30 something in usd. It depends on who works at the big chain stores as to whether or not you can have a relationship. When I visit my in-law's two or three times a year, there's a chain store right down the road that has a guy working there that remembers who I am. I can't imagine he doesn't know his regular customers. I don't know if he helps anyone out, but he is friendly.
@jameslane9267 Жыл бұрын
I’m in the Chicago area. Lots of privately owned liquor stores, and chain stores that are privately run, where you can speak directly with the owners/operators freely. In my experience, building a relationship and rapport with these guys and regularly shopping with them does little to nothing in your Bourbon hunting journey. I agree with you when you say it’s all about having “friends” and by friends I of course mean people you have known for years who actually like you.
