A big thing this song highlights is how many GREAT musicians/singers there are out there that never make it. I used to live in Nashville and you could go to any bar/restaurant Tuesday at 5:00 and hear a performance that would blow you away. Stapleton obviously made it, but what happened to the rest? Great musicianship in this song by all of them.

That guitar is called a resonator. Played either held in the regular guitar position or with the guitar face up, played with a slide, that's dobro. I have a bottle for a bribe to watch you listen to my favorite dobro player. I've been hunting Sitka Blacktail with my ex on the blue side of the mountain. From a skiff, in Alaska. I know of which you speak.

Used to work for a printing company (Our Press, Chenango Bridge,NY) . We printed the programs for the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival [Oak Hill, NY, Greene Co., ~ an hr south of Albany. Btw, my college[SUNY ESF] roommate, Bob W., was from this very town. :O ;) ]. Checked out their website, which had samples of the artists at the festival.Then checked out the ones I liked on KZbin. This video was THE ONE. That's where I first encountered this ,The Steeldrivers, &^ Chris Stapleton. (2008?) Was blown away. Been lovin' this/them ever since. :) "Those places.......?......ARE DIFFERENT!" ...Yep. That's .....HOME! :) {Some years, the snow doesn't melt til the middle of June. ;) }

I'm one of those people that goes to the woods to reset. Pretty sure my dad was one of those guys and the hunting season story goes like this. I have four brothers and my dad's friend Ernie had two sons so hunting party was at least 6 of them. Night before everyone would gather around our kitchen table to strategize, why it took so long I'll never know but it was fun. Next day off they'd go not coming back til dark. . This went on for 20 years. My dad never shot a deer, Ernie never shot a deer...the boys did but the story usually went that the boys would come back to meet point to find my dad and Ernie just leanin' up against a tree drinking their coffee. If you knew my dad you know he was sitting there all day taking it in, breathing, and thinking and grinning as the deer walked past. I miss him.

"In the deep dark hills of eastern Kentucky that's the place where I trace my bloodline and it's there I read on a hillside gravestone "You'll never leave Harlan alive" Oh, my grandfather's dad crossed the Cumberland Mountains where he took a pretty girl to be his bride...said, "Won't you walk with me, out of the mouth of this holler or we'll never leave Harlan alive" It's Holler if ya got kin in Kentucky 😜 Gotta ask...what genre would you put this song in? To me it's somewhere between bluegrass and the blues. Stapleton's voice is just pure gold, the man could sing ding dong the wicked witch is dead and you'd feel that house drop on you. Just my thoughts. *whines* Keeeeith! Dustin is trying to keep all the bourbon to himself! 🤣🤣 Shhhh I'm a lil tipsy and honey buns will go to my hips and butt but a nice bourbon with the flavor might not. Great reaction to an absolutely awesome song, I grew up and now live in the Smokies, there are some eerily beautiful places to just be at peace. I waited to see Keith's face when he took that first taste because I thought it was gonna be icky, so even though I was disappointed that you didn't make a stank face, I am glad you didn't hate it. I don't hunt anymore (they can detect a wheel chair a mile away), but yes I have held the shot before in order to preserve the moment.

Eclair hunny buns.. I prefer fresh bakery regular eclairs, but the store bought hunny bun ones are... decent. I'm not a hug sweet eater, so I pick my poison. The song.. growing up in rural Florida, I have little in the way of references. I enjoyed the music , the emotion in the words, some of the imagery was lost though. I think from what Keith explained the the North side of a mountain is like a deep part of some of the old growth oak forests where the only things growing are moss, ferns and some mushrooms. It's an eerie dim green on the brightest of days. Love the song though.
