The original is on YT as "Trace Adkins on the CMAs With West Point Glee Club - Til The Last Shot's Fired" and is 6 years old now. It doesn't have as many views as it should. The introduction is by Marine LT Andrew Kiner, who lost both legs in Iraq and is representing the Wounded Warrior Project. Trace also is a huge supporter of them, and is often seen hosting their commercials for fundraising.

You are spot on about the meaning of this song. This is what Trace Atkins said about the song “What if soldiers are in this kind of - I don’t want to say purgatory - but that’s kind of what it is. What if these soldiers are in a place where they can’t rest until the last shot’s fired until war doesn’t exist? What if only then they can find peace? I think if we knew that, and if that were true, there probably wouldn’t be wars anymore. So I thought that was a real unique way of looking at it. And it pays tribute to soldiers but, at the same time, asks that question.” This always gives me chills and I cry every time.

If I remember right Trace said it was a tribute to soldiers plus a what if soldiers look at being in limbo and not being able to rest til there were no more war. It's been awhile since the interview I saw gosh 2010 I think. Keith is definitely correct in his take on it as until the last shots are done and no more war will they be able to rest. The version at the awards is a MUST see. Trace write so many of these type of songs. His respect and support of the wounded soldiers is awesome to see. You're correct about the overall theme. It's right there in the lyrics. "In the fields of Vietnam, The mountains of Afghanistan, And I'm still hopin', waitin' prayin' I did not die in vain" Right after the verse about the young soldier dying on the shores of Omaha. So he's waiting and praying since 1944 through all the other wars. Or at least I see it that way. Music and poetry are sometimes hard to fix exact meanings to, other times not so much.

So, that’s the West Pointe Glee Club I believe but the live at the CMA is so much better. In the live version a Marine says the words, “It’s not about the war, it’s about the warrior”. As for why he may not be painting detailed pics toward the end, I would think that it’s because a lot of the vets are still alive & it may be taking their feelings on the subject into account.

This is by far my favorite Trace Adkins song. I'm not sure what his exact meaning of the "last shot" was, to be honest I've never really thought to much about it, but I always figured it was referring to American history as a hole. Thought-provoking question so thank you. Having been a collegiate choral musician, I thoroughly enjoyed the choir at the end. While the choral part was not overly technical, it was masterfully preformed. I don't know what method they used to record, but the blend of all the parts was superb!

We have a paranormal team and we travel the country doing investigations and research. We went to Gettysburg in 2014, 2016, 2018. We were all set to go to New Orleans next week,but we sat and talked and we decided to go to Gettysburg again and will be going to the DC area to Arlington National Cemetery. Of course we aren’t doing anything regarding the paranormal at Arlington. Keith is right. When we go to Gettysburg we are often silent because somewhere deep inside we feel the battle still going on. This song is exactly as Keith described, soldiers prayers for peace and rest.

@jerrih27495 ай бұрын
Trace had to get permission for the West Point Glee Club to sing on this. He travelled to the Pentagon to get that permission. I'm sure he had to make some concessions to get that permission. I noticed that Trace sang about the fallen sons, but when the club came in it said daughters and sons. I also noted that the choir did not sing the phrase, "Sweet Mother Mary, we're so tired." That was probably to keep the government from endorsing a particular religion.
