I'd love Nordfab, but man, the price...and I'm a hobbyist. Jason, one note about your PVC setup: It was more than just setup wrong, it was designed/setup with minimal knowledge of the airflow requirements needed for good dust collection. This is the problem with everyone running 4" PVC to work horse tools. 6" and well-over 1500cfm is what is needed. 4" PVC can't do that, and neither could that dust collector. Good upgrade! I would get that collector off the ground though, so that inlet would not be in your walkway. That might be more trouble than it's worth though.

I had the same thought but after more thought I came to the same conclusion as Dynasty did. Though if a shop is already set up and operational (like Jason's) it leaves you in the position of putting up with the space loss or totally rearranging the entire shop. And let's face it, 14k is probably a line item that gets vetoed when a shop is just getting set up for the first time.

@John Oster exactly what Chris said. MAYBEEEEEE this happens in the largest of industrial units. But NOT in woodshops we tend to know. It looks like you left the cut section facing against the flow of the dust, which will cause dust to build up on that cut lip. You might want to make sure the cut end of the ducts are facing towards the dust collector to ensure max flow and no areas for dust to collect inside the ducts.

There is no documented case of static fires in a small shop setting. Even without a ground wire. This myth is nonsense, and causes many woodworkers to think central dust collection is out of their price range or too complicated. It DOES create static, but not enough to cause a problem in anything less than a large industrial facility.

14600 K is an insane amount of money. I would rather work in a semi enclosed space. And let nature do it's job of getting rid of the dust 🤣. Cheers from India 🇮🇳.

I’m saying this out of concern. You are covered from head to toe in dust and you don’t have a mask. It’s ironic because this is a video about dust collection and the most important part of dust collection is the safety it gives you. A 10$ mask could save you from all that dust you inhaled doing this video. Again, I’m not trying to be critical, I’m just concerned. I hope you consider my comment.

Why would you take down old duct work without respirators on? Great that moving forward you won't be continuously exposed, but the job you did exposed you to several decades of dust at one time. For a smart guy this was not your best moment. I do love your woodwork. Keep up the great videos

What a waste of money and shop space. No industrial wood processor/mill vents indoors. Why do small shops insist on doing this? 5hp blower vented outdoors sucked through a cyclone pre-separator. It’s Cheap and effective.

If you want to spoil yourself some more, you should check out GRIT Automation. We can automate all of your Nordfab blast gates or any new or existing metal blast gate. With manual gates it's very easy to have one open that shouldn't be. With GRIT you just turn on a tool and the entire system configures itself, as well as turning your collector on and off automatically. Gives you more time to work instead of checking your gate configuration and turning collector on each time you use a tool. GRIT also creates a level of safety by giving you the ability to lock and unlock your shop tools with the press of a button. This is great if you have curious kids that like to press the buttons. Much more to GRIT but just wanted to let you and others know we exist. Thanks!

Coupling not nipas your connecting to add too same as if you run to the end off a pipe you add a coupler to join too. Be better to use a cooler as you would on a boiler flue it opens to fit round the diameter and its about 2 inches wide has to self tappers that you screw to the corresponding other end and compresses with a spongey strip for a good seal. Then you drill two small self taping screws to secure from flexing. That price for ducting bowled me over. Should off gone for flue liner its exactly the same, and a 5th off the price. I'm from UK so all I get is American stuff on KZbin and I'm a gas engineer so do loads with flues ducting waste etc. Retiring Oct and I am getting my woodshop together got to keep busy. Love that extractor but bit overkill

Thank you for sharing the cost and how you spent your own money on it. Sure most of us will never justify spending that much but honestly, I completely understand why you did. This is your live and livelihood. Buy once and and move on. Thanks for the video.

Can’t afford that machine, but I’m getting ready to order an Oneida Supercell. Got a bad lung report back, and I love woodworking. After my military career its just relaxing to build furniture .. So would you opt for the newest “turbo” model or just the Supercell? My shop has a 10” table saw, 15” planer, 3hp shaper, miter station, 12” disc sander, 14” bandsaw.. Great channel and always great tips and ideas!

Never in the history of wood working has pvc dust collection exploded just because woodworkers say that doesn’t mean that’s it’s true ffs.. and those 6k dust collection pipes will collect dust like the pvc if you don’t have a cleaning schedule. Like clean the entire shop once a month the entire and still do your daily cleaning and you still will have some :) anyways good luck after 6 years of using what you was this has too be like heaven. Note still not a fan of those 6k pipes but when you’re doing KZbin and getting paid fat from it why the hell not lol

I almost pulled the trigger on a G-700, but after watching Bent's review, I decided against it. I didn't like the slow start up from the VFD as I frequently turn the DC on/off. I decided to go with an Oneida V-3000 instead. Absolutely amazing unit, and I upgraded from a 2-stage Harbor Freight. The difference is night and day, a proper DC system is a must have. I completely underestimated how much of a difference it can make.

This is more than just a housekeeping issue. He is still young and repiratory illness is a hazard for wood workers. The bags on most dust collectors don't catch the particles that are most damaging to your health, which are as small as 0.3um. This thing has a HEPA filer on it, so that alone would make it worth the money.

add to the video to show how it works. a very unsatisfying video. harvey's design with the ducting exiting the side impinging on 2 ft of shop space and starting the system off with a 90 sweep instead of entering the top boggles my mind.
