Liv will forever be one of the best female characters in media, and Mariska is quite the badass herself too! The cool thing about both of them is that they're strong and scary when they need to be, but they also know how to be kind and gentle. Mariska does such a great job with this character, I love this show so much!!

This show did so wrong to so many cool characters, but they did right by Olivia. So, so right. A true female lead, strong, smart, driven, compassionate, flawed. It's rare to see a female lead who's personality isn't reduced to 3 or so qualities and is as flat as the desert. Not only that but they let her grow up, emotionally, physically. They've worked with her growing older instead of fighting it and I appreciate that so much. For her character AND Mariska. I like that she created a less traditional family, that her heart doesn't get broken by a boyfriend and isn't a cliche like the "career woman that behaves like a shark". Nothing wrong with either but in between them lies the rich, layered and extremely realistic character that is Benson.

If this was the episode "Zero Tolerance", she would have been suspended or fired for ordering a federal officer arrested. Her superiors would have called her up to their offices for a tongue lashing, but instead the case is taken to trial (that would never happen in real life). During the trial, she makes a scene that would have got her cited for contempt for disrupting the procedures. All in all, a complete farce.
