Hi, my name is David. I’m a quadriplegic in Southwest Kansas. I’ve gone pheasant hunting and rabbit hunting just a few times when I was young. I was injured while driving drunk in 2009. I had little interest in hunting when I was young but nowadays I’m fascinated with every aspect of it. I want to thank you for your channel. It’s about as close as I can get to experiencing the outdoors. Your podcast discussions are hilarious at times and always interesting. Thanks again!

Congratulations Janis, I live in Victoria Australia, I have had three attempts at travelling to Queensland with the dream of getting my perfect chital, every time I have passed on deer that are just not quite right. Your chital has everything that I want, from head on it has that classic heart-shaped antlers, great brows, and great tops. I don’t care if it’s only 28 inches, or 34 inches, it’s that shape, great brows and that beautiful coat. Congratulations again, you’ve just inspired me even more to find that special one, salute.

An ex friends uncle owned 20 acres on the nueces river north of Camp Wood TX. It was an unusual large flat fertile grass flood plain covered in large old pecan trees. When he ran out of meat he just would walk on his back porch and kill an axis. They never left his property. We were shooting pistols and the herd was 200 yards away acting like it was just another day.

Even tho bow hunting is not something I am in to but I Shure do love watching it because I don't think I will be able to do a hunt ever. It's so sad and I want to enjoy earths bounty but I cannot. Ugh some people get to do so much and other so little. I'm on that far end of the spectrum. I cannot do anything hunting. Even if I really want to. I'm not disabled. But there's no community around here of hunters. And my fam and friends forget it. They are totally not going with me. So so sad. Maybe one day I'll go alone on a hunt. But alone for the first time. It is difficult for me I wish I had friends to hang out with and enjoy the earth's bounty. So so sad right now. Awesome video. But so dam sad. I can't do what I'm watching.

No one in my family hunts, and none of my friends who do are near me. This show (and others) got me very interested in the sport during the pandemic. I finally got my hunter safety done last fall, and went out solo for small game a few times. I just picked up my first Turkey Tag. Im just trying to figure it out on my own, and there have been way more failures than successes. However, it's been a blast the whole way. I would encourage you to try if you're interested, or maybe start with fishing like I did. For me its an excuse to get in the outdoors, and enjoy this beautiful world.
@EAZY-ME4 ай бұрын
@@thenewbohemian5779 hey I think that's a good idea. In my fam and in my ear is it's taboo to hunt. Even fish. If you hunt or fish your the lowest of the low over here. The stigma sucks around it and sometimes game wardens treat us like we are the low of the low I had one time I did go small game hunting met up with a game warden and it was just a terrible experience. It's so taboo eating what you hunt and kill over here. So strange. And it is really dangerous around the border so alone in the desert or bushes and mountains is not a good place to be sometimes. If you catch my drift. A dude with a gun out in the desert is a dude with a gun doing bad things over here in these places. That's the whole problem. It's unsafe to hunt or even fish alone out here. I hope that brings in a bit of perspective but particularly where I am from near the border so so much wildlife but so so much crime. Wild West type crimes. So so sad dude. A group of people ruin it for everyone.

Im not sure where I stand on ranch hunts like this. I'm all for doing what you want with your land, and your animals, but it weirds me out that there is such a culture of collecting strange creatures from around the world in Texas, wnd letting people hunt them. Not sure where I stand on conservation when it comes to invasives either. This just seems to be super comercialized hunting. More power to ya, but I dont think I'd go on this hunt. Alright folks before you come sprinting to Texas, these are not affordable hunts. You will be lucky to shoot an axis buck for under $3500. 98% of these hunts also happen over a deer feeder or you gun it down from a truck
@david8344 ай бұрын
Hunting in general is not cheap in Texas, especially if you grew up in an area like I did where it was free. But, I've taken multiple Axis deer in Texas, and not one from a feeder and only one from a truck (and that one when driving up to retrieve the one I'd just shot). Hunting from feeders is not the only way to get one.
@Luckieoutdoors4 ай бұрын
@@david834 definitely weren’t free. either you payed for a lease, own a ranch, or have a super nice rich friend. I’m saying if you go pay for a hunt, you will sit in front a feeder or drive around in a truck. Hunted high and low fences all over Texas and have yet to see one that doesn’t hunt over feeders or trucks. Spot and stalk isn’t allowed at a lot of places
@david8344 ай бұрын
@@Luckieoutdoors Sitting in front of a feeder has not been by experience for Axis, and I did pay for low fence access. I've also hunted for whitetails other than sitting in front of a feeder too. You can rattle near their bedding areas...you can hunt their food sources, especially in ETX in oak flats. Don't think I've ever hunted spot and stalk - not enough topography. I've still hunted, which someone might say is the same thing, but for me that's walking very slowly through areas where deer travel (beds to food, etc).

This is not a high fence ranch they are hunting. There are plenty of free-range Axis deer as well as other non native exotics in West Texas. You guys should really do some research and not always talk down on Texas hunting.
