The music is so beautiful. Who crafted your bowed dulcimer? The sound is incredible.

I'm pretty sure most are still made by the inventor.

@@-jank-willson yes but the modern bowed dulcimer is a combination of the mountain dulcimer and the viola da gamba, an invention of the late folk revival

It’s like somewhere between a cello or the next smaller one down, but the tone is… thicker?

Where did you buy yours? i can't seem to find them anywhere. Are they uncommon? Why is the price range if you don't mind me asking.

Fantastic. Ryan, how do you have the instrument tuned?

Love your music. I have a question. Someone gave me a Baritone Mountain Dulcimer but it has a fret board that is only 1 1/8 Inches wide. It is 45 inches in length. I can't find the maker. Could this instrument be actually made for bowing? It is hard to play with such a small fret board.
@vilo1594 жыл бұрын
Your configuration is normal. Most dulcimers aren't made to be bowed, this one look like it was made special with a curved fretboard that makes bowing possible. Normally a dulcimer's fretboard is flat; it is for strumming, with the bottom two strings played as drones and melody on the top string.

most people use a bow with a regular dulcimer, as dulcimers were often played with bows back hundreds of years ago
@jasonsummit18855 жыл бұрын
Did you make the dulcimer or was it one made by Ken Bloom?
@PHJimY11 жыл бұрын
How do you tune it Ryan? I wonder how many modifications you can make and still call it a dulcimer. This sounds lovely, but isn't the diatonic tuning what defines a dulcimer. This is a new instrument.
@cyndifoore77433 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree the diatonic tuning is what gives the dulcimer it’s unique sound.
