i feel no one understands the song ? it’s so deeply sad. it makes me cry. it’s almost like it is trying to cover the pain with the upbeat melody. it so beautiful. retrospective and mature, just lovely. for me it’s a soft teary hand holding goodbye song..

Here in Brazil, we have a northeast folk music genre called "xote" that sounds close to it (in my opinion). Search bands like "Rastapé" and "Falamansa", if you're curious about that.

I consider it a Gesamtkunstwerk, and I think the reason why those leave such a strong impression is because they employ your mind on many different fronts at once, making it very memorable, leading to you thinking about it often after you've heard it, making you revisit it. The constant revisitation will make you then associate the piece with your life during the period to which you keep coming back to it. And through that association, the piece that might originally not have had too much meaning for you from just what it was, manifests itself as meaningful through its presence during all the things you were occupied with in that time-frame.

I listened to it once, about ten year ago, under a bad trip of salvia, and the part where they sing "and no, youre not alone. no, my cousins, youre not alone." lightened my way out of that trip. 22/07/2024: if you see an empty saddle, that's my horse, and I'm climbing back in it soon enough ("feed the pigeons some clay, turn the night into day" etc). Last night I saw "Let the Right One In" for the first time since I was 17, back when the loneliness had a Cheshire grin and love for wool. These days it's an empty mouth and a cold leather jacket. I start med school a month from now, so it goes. Last week the landlady brought me a book about the "Masters of Medicine". The apartment caught fire twice, and I thought I ought to leave here this fall.
