The new Bowers and Wilkins PX7’s are a refined version of the Bowers and Wilkins PX… B and W’s first pair of ANC headphones. And just like before, I think these headphones sound great and over all I really like their build quality. But when it comes to everything else like active noise cancelation and fit… these headphones still need some work. Now im not saying that you shouldn’t get these headphones period. I just don’t think these headphones are for everyone. But they will make a very specific type of person very happy.

I managed to grab the PX7 Carbon Edition this black Friday for £219 down from £349. My last pair were the fantastic Sony MDR-1000x (XM1), the difference in both sound quality and noise cancelling feels like a huge step up from the first gen Sony's. I'll happily forego the slightly better ANC of the XM3's in exchange for the excellent build quality and looks.

i have PX and love the color gold and blue its very unique and very atractive it catches eyes very easy, it has also not bad anc, maybe its old but not very bad it can block noises in bus perfectly and even in train and when i was travelling and i turned on it blocked so much engine sound that i was impressed , maybe i had this reaction because its my first anc headphones but what i want to say is its very good headphone even today (PX) ... so im kinda dissapointed because they dont have some unique color in px7 like px has and black is very stealthy for headphones like that i think, but still its great looking. actually with my px i never had situation that it paused on its own just set wear sensor sensitivity on low or less like i do .

I would mainly use these at home and the inability to use them as passive is a major issue. Still haven't decided what to buy to replace a first gen, wired Momentum.

Thanks for the review. Just wanted to let everyone know that the ear pads are not genuine leather. B&W calls it a composite material, and they say they chose it for it’s sonic properties. So, if it doesn’t feel like leather, that’s because it is not leather. Also, turning off the wear sensor lowers the max battery run time. The small battery savings every time the headphones turn themselves off quickly when using the wear sensors adds up. That may be part of the reason why you didn’t get the full 30 hours that B&W claim. Also wanted to add that I very much doubt that the mics on the PX7 are worse than the ones on the Sony 1000xm3. I bought and returned both the 1000xm3 and the Bose NCH 700, and ended up buying and keeping the original B&W PX. The Bose easily has the best mic quality, and the Sony’s mics are terrible. The PX were decent. Very average compared to the Bose mics, but noticeably better than the Sony’s mics...which, unfortunately, are hot garbage. So, the only way that the Sony’s mics are better than the PX7’s is if B&W actually went backwards and put mics in the PX7 that are inferior to the ones in the original PX.

As an owner of both the Sony WH-1000xm3 and Bowers and Wilkins Px7 I can safely say the latter has better mics, but there is still a lot to be desired.

If you pause it when you take them off every time, you're fine, I assume? I'm guessing when he tested the battery life, he was timing the time they were actually on. Counting time spent with the headphones not running wouldn't make much sense.

@@diabl2master They still use some power while they are on, even if they are "paused". That's a big part of the reason behind the auto off feature...to maximize battery life by having the headphones turn themselves off shortly after being removed.

Thanks Gymcaddy, really disappointing to hear they suffer so much with ANC on. What would you say the biggest pros/cons between this and the Senny Momentum 3s is? I was waiting for this video before making my purchase but you didn’t really mention the M3s lol. I already have a pair of Sony XM3s that I use to flights and work so I wanted something I could wear for shorter trips or at home/office with much better sound than the XM3s. Thanks!

At home I can't recommend open back headphones more, they are the king of home/private use BUT if you need something to block out the noise then Momentum 3's or HD569. Both in my opinion sound better then anything Sony has to offer.

@@burns0100 Thanks, I am not too familiar with open back headphones as all my experience is from consumer grade BT ANC cans. It's obviously something I want to dig into more but I need to understand first how to build a good set up :) I actually just purchased the Senn M3 earlier tonight and look forward to using that daily while my XM3s are going to be for flights and when ANC is really needed. I think I will use them like shoes. One pair for looking nice at work- and the other pair for casual weekend stuff.

Excellent review! Appreciate how the info was presented in a clear and concise manner! This is the best review of these headphones I've seen online, whether by video, written review, reddit or forum post, etc. Thanks for mentioning the clamping force- as someone with a large head and glasses, this is an immediate deal-breaker. 300+ grams is also a bit excessive. I didn't care too much for noise cancelling but with an occasionally noisy roommate and some use during traveling, that side-by-side comparison was eye-opening. At this price-point, I don't like making compromises. My current B&O H7 are showing their age -the build quality and comfort are near-flawless but i'll need BT 5.0, premium build quality, excellent comfort, AptX-HD, and good noise-cancelling to upgrade. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to meet my needs as far as comfort or noise cancelling quality. Also, I would still prefer actual leather earpads over cheap leatherette. I have a feeling I'll be waiting for B&O to release a new pair of over-ear headphones...

Armando Hernandez - They are more comfortable. The coding force isn’t as much, and the ear pads have a much fatter, softer edge than the P7 or PX.

This is the best review I've seen of these headphones, I watched many before buying them but not this one, and this is exactly how I feel about them too. They're very much consumer electronics now rather than the super high quality, hifi products that the B&W P7s felt like. Which is okay... but it looses any edge they had and could forgive their mild shortcomings for (given they shouldn't have any for the top-tier price!).

Hey Tim Fisher , I suppose it depends if you would benefit from the wireless aspect. If so then I would suggest they’re among the best sounding out there but don’t expect them to feel special like the P7s! If I did it again, I’d check out the B&O H9 3rd Gen first and if they stack up in sound terms I’d go for them, even with the extra cost. I just can’t take to the P7, and they broke in the first month which I’m now having trouble getting repaired. Great! 😒

Headphone B&W PX7 - strongly NOT recommended after 2Y of using! Device bought on: 23.03.20 - Polish distributor (366 EUR) 27.06.20 - complete failure of the left handset, no sound 23.07.20 - fix for maintenance service (!), earpad not correctly positioned 16.05.22 - full around unsticking of left earpad on gluing line, the contents (sponge) went out - not covered by the warranty 23.07.22 - complete failure of the right handset, no sound - after a 2-year warranty period After weeks of discussion, I got message that repair cost is similar to cost of buying a new one headphone (!). At the same time, I also bought B&O H9 3rd gen (for other family member) - till now working smoothly, no issue. Kris

I, who am an occasional client of noise cancellation, the sound offered by the B&W PX7 is simply spectacular. Excellent separation of channels and detail of instruments in listening to your favorite music, I recommend them.

@@antonristo1096 honestly, with anc off the sound is clearer, brighter although I must point out that at all, the activation of noise cancellation is as annoying as with the sony XM3 (I recognize that it is greater than the PX3 but I did not like it, too artificial ) .It is my impression and may not match the other users.

@@antonristo1096 Excessive pressure in the ears. I was testing them in a specialized store, they recommended them to me and the cancellation is really brutal but my ears resent that pressure. It may be a personal appreciation but that together with the sound was not so dynamic and with the separation of channels He made me decide to choose another option and the B&W PX7 arrived. The truth is that I am very happy with them. I recommend them.

The more i think about it the more i notice that B&W just wasnt sure about what they want to do. The headphone seems like a mix of a more Sound and lifestyle based headphone like the Momentum or the B&O H9 and a more ANC focused headphone like Bose and Sonys. Problem is they just didnt make it in one of the two categories. ANC is to weak to compete in the Anc focused Department but to strong and bad integrated to compete with the Sound of the Sennheiser. Also for a lifestyle based headphone the look is just hideous. Also comfort is kinda lackluster which is bad for both types of headphones. In general i think the current market sets the Momentum 3 as the best Sound/ Lifestyle headphones because of great build and comfort, best sound and lots of smart features for daily use and the Sonys as the best ANC focused headphones with good sound and comfort, good customizability, the best Anc in the game and amazing battery life.

My review is that this is one of the worst sounding headphones I have ever tried. If you like bloated, inaccurate midbass, with recessed vocals with questionable details, this is the headphone for you. If you actually want music as the artist intended, you are better off buying $10 Mrice earbuds and connecting it to to any bluetooth dongle. The sound quality will far exceed these exponentially. If you must have noise canceling headphones, I'd recommend the Bose QuietComfort 35ii or the less accurate Sony 1000xm4.

$400 for these and in a years time they will be full of dirt, skin and oil with all that fabric... Hate companies that thing its a good idea to use fabric that you can't remove or replace. Also why wouldn't you just buy Bose, Sony or Sennheiser at this point? Really paying for the name and sound signature.

There's some stain/moisture resistant coating on the fabric apparently. Also I had the Sony XM2 and was very dissatisfied with the sound quality (muddy bass and no detail). $50 more for significantly better sound quality and a bit worse in other areas seemed a worthy tradeoff for me as someone who doesn't travel by plane very often. That being said I missing the app and other features of the Sonys so I may switch back...
