I’ve got the PX7 in grey and love them, comfy, 30 hours battery, great materials and a fantastic sound quality. I use Foobar2000 and the headphones can be EQ’d from there. I’ve recently heard the Apple AirPods Max and have to say they too are wonderful and possibly sound better than the PX7’s, more seperation, more airey but less bass all round than the PX7’s and with the AirPods Max costing £200 more the PX7’s are my go to 🎧

Good to know a company has made high end carbon fiber headphones that sound good too. For me I have the AirPods Max and Sony XM-4. For in home listening and zoom calls definitely pick the AirPod Max every time; such awesome soulful sound and call quality is phenomenal. However, for traveling on vacations, I go with Sony XM-4 cause of their portability and more than adequate sound quality. Fun fact: if you use Apple Music with AirPods, it sounds much better than Tidal and Spotify. I guess vertical Integration has real world advantages. 😉

sound quality is most important to me. the XM4s (I have them) have good bass but muddy to me tbh. I have a pair of Senn HD600s which cost less ($300) and they blow the XM4s away in sound. Sound quality is always important, but modern-day headphones are all kinda well-sounding. There is two things that make me buy vintage headphones tho. The first one is headbands, single headbands are a big no for me. it's uncomfortable with a sigle pressure point and they slide around if you bend over. And number two is design. Almost all new headphones look the same, bland plastic without character and often strangely big arc on the headband that makes you look like you're walking around with helmet on, which is fine for audiophile moments but not everyday use

In flight, they do an amazing job of bringing the music or movie forward while eliminating the background noise. And I take issue with your opinion of the phone-app; being able to quickly and easily set the amount of noise cancellation makes up for the lack of EQ customization. One feature I love that you failed to mention - when the drink cart comes by, drop the headphones around your neck and they pause until placed back into position. @DMonZ19883 жыл бұрын
i'm always enticed by the classy B&W design aesthetic and they give the impression of having excellent build quality with beautiful premium materials, but in both pairs i've had (P5 v1 and P3 v2) the glue in the removable earcups and the felt on the inner driver housing dissolved and disintegrated into a gloopy, sticky crap after less than a year despite only being used very sporadically (i.e. a few hours every few weeks). however tempting, i won't be buying B&W again. have you experienced something similar after long term use? (or even NOT use as it happens) i think it happened with time, not use, and it didn't take very long either...
@enders-builds3 жыл бұрын
Just to chime in here, my P5 v1 also had the glue disintegration issue, and I take great care of them and use the included case all the time.
@poulwinther3 жыл бұрын
This just turned me far away from considering them. I am only shopping for ANC's because the soft material of my trusty old Parrot's has finally disintegrated after ten years.
@DMonZ19883 жыл бұрын
@@poulwinther yeah, I honestly can't recommend them. I made the same mistake twice. Not prepared to buy extremely expensive new ear cushions every year when I barely even use them, and if you don't catch it well ahead of time the glues dissolve too turning the whole thing into a sticky mess. I'm pretty disappointed, and find it completely unacceptable that its an issue in both headphones that are built about 5 years apart. Seems highly unlikely that they're doing anything differently, even now. I recently bought and immediately returned some surface headphones 2. One pair (amazon whd) had loud static with ANC but they were likely faulty. A new pair compared side by side had no issues in that regard, but the audio quality was just very unexceptional. Wanted to love them for the analogue controls, but they sounded so weak and cheap compared to other headphones I have that I just wouldn't have enjoyed them. They're quite eccentric and not as classically classy in their design, but the best ANC and very unique and highly tuneable sound I've experienced is from my nurafone headphones. The internal eartips do get uncomfortable after a few hours, but the robust silicone earcups and metal build feel bulletproof and pleasantly cool, and the tuneable sound signature and THUMPING (when turned up) bass from the earcups are very unique (and fun!) experiences, ANC is excellent and so is the transparency mode, both drastically better than in the SurfaceH2. If the design is a complete no go, the sonys seem to be the universally highly regarded top choice and Sennheiser quiet comfort 2 or series 700(i think) models a decent second place, but I haven't tried either. By all accounts they're both good, safe bets in all regards, but the design/build quality doesn't seem quite as premium as some others. B&W cans do look incredible, aesthetically maybe the nicest of all, but when in reality they fall apart its just unforgivable. Don't risk it, unless you have an actual B&W store nearby (I think I've seen one once before!), get extended warranty and you can get replacements from them directly once a year or so, promised in writing. They will deteriorate quite quickly all by themselves.
@poulwinther3 жыл бұрын
@@DMonZ1988 Thanks a lot for all that input. The extended warranty could be an interesting option. I would love to get the Nura for the sound quality but the fact is that I mainly need ANC's for long haul flights - including sleeping - so I'm afraid the ear-thingy design is just a no-go. At the end of the day the Sony's may be the best choice for me although the sound is absolutely meh, at best. For music I use proper wired Sennheiser's anyway.
@DMonZ19883 жыл бұрын
@@poulwinther sure, hope its helpful, its a topic i have a little bit of experience with. and the dodgy B&W problems are definitely a sore point that people need to know about. i would only consider them again if i was absolutely sure i could get them replaced repeatedly with no hassle, otherwise they're just junk. and ether way B&W need to seriously fix it so i'm not inclined to endorse their products. but yeah ok, for longer durations i wouldn't enjoy the nuras personally, but i'm thinking of trying some aftermarket internal eartips sometime soon, before trying yet another headphone for longer use. they're good (and expensive) enough to give it a go. wouldn't call them audiophile quality by any stretch though, and based on the universal praise of the sonys i'd be surprised if the nuras sound drastically better. fun though! i don't know of any other more premium ANC options unfortunately. possibly the apple headphones but they're iOS optimised and undeniably overpriced. i wonder if theres a portable headphone amp with Independent ANC functionality. that seems like it would be a really interesting product.

I have been listening to my music since my days living in barracks in the Marine Corps. Believe me, I would have paid a great deal to have a pair of NC headphones, regardless of the brand! I am at the age now when I can afford a few expensive gadgets and I own several NC products of Bose, Sennheiser, Sony, Pioneer and now, Bowers & Wilkins OTE headphones. For sound I agree totally with your assessment of the NC features but for comfort, music and sound quality.....#1 Sennheiser Momentum 3 NC 2. B&W PX7 3. Bose NC700 and the others are just filling room in my desk.

Hi Caleb, great review. I just ordered a pair of these online, as they're not available whereI live. I like the sound but I don't find it great. I've seen lots of comments from people saying the soundstage is different between the OG and the Carbon's. Can you please confirm what was the firmware version on the Carbon's you used for this review? 1.1 or 1.2? Thanks in advance.

Good sound, comfort and best ANC possible

Skip these headphones please. These sound veiled and muffled compared to the P7 wireless. I have both, P7 wireless are much better, if you don't need ANC.

Those test calls that you use are so compressed that they all sound really bad, all in the same way mind you. No way to get to grips with the real potential of the microphone! Is there a chance that you will test the microphones with Skype, WebEx or AWS to showcase their tansmitted soundquality via software applications please? Any you can certainly stay in a warm room with a bit of reverb.

Sound quality and comfort. Prefer neutral sounding. I find the mx4 murky and muffled.

Had these but returned them because it became uncomfortable for me. Part of the ear cup was pinching a part of my ear and inside touches a part of the ear cup. 15 mins in and my ears are already sore. Compared to the airpods max, my ears are fully inside the ear cups and doesn’t touch any inside part of the ear cups. Love the sound sig of the P7 but I’d rather have the APM that I can wear for hours instead of the P7 that I can wear for 15-30 mins tops. The sound sig of the APM isn’t terrible anyway.

The quality suck. I used it in Oct2020 and it was ok. But the left ear goes bad on me in three months. The static started and is very noticing. Within one month, the left ear only have static and no music. There is no support or anywhere I can go to get support. They say it's two years warranty but where or how do I go for support.

Very bad service on B&W’s.

Still holding out for something for high’er end audio, but that can do surround of some kind. The Dolby Atmos headphones were okay but full of too many trade-offs; not to mention they discontinued them about as fast as they came out. Unfortunately as well the Apple model doesn’t even do Spectral with my Apple TV. So I’ll stick with my Air Pod Pros for now and hold out of the serious full headphones until there’s a better option. They B&W do seem like a better call than the Apple Ai Pods Max though.

Finally, B&W down side was they were heavy and got headache with that. Though I don't think they update ANC from previous PX7 which as ANC is bummer than SONY. Mic are not great compare to BOSE and SONY. I still choose SONY but B&W do have great sound compare to SONY and BOSE but paying $399 is too much...

comfort and sound quality, but I'm willing to trade some of one to get more of the other a la THX Panda and Samsung Beans.

which is more comfortable for listening a long time? I need something to be on my head for hours while I detail cars. Most ear pads make my ears sweat after 1-2 hours...

I can forgive many things as long as the sound quality is rich and vibrant, but if you can't change the EQ that's a deal breaker.
