I've hunted rural lands the last 19 years. I found seek1 3 years ago on KZbin. I was in love with the idea of hunting urban because of it. So I found a place to do it for something different. Got my first P&Y urban buck on 1 acre this year.

I've been hunting a lot of Urban situations for a long time, even between two factory buildings. One rule I created for myself is out of sight out of mind which means I go out of my way to make sure no neighbor sees a dead deer. Parking my truck in a less seen area, repositioning my truck so no one can see me load the deer. Staying quiet at all times. You're going to have hunts that a neighborhood dog or cat is going to come by your stand, and you have to just shrug it off and not get upset. I tell myself for as many times as the pet might have spooked deer away from me, they probably have also spooked deer to me.

Great Pod as always, I wanted to hear more about urban strategies and how he may deal with the 1/2 acre to 2 acre parcels. Regardless this Alexander buck thing is so crazy right now I’m not going to say anything about the situation or the guy himself because it’s just rumors now although DNR did confiscate some things including the rack I guess but I think you guys should do a bonus podcast on this because it’s HUGE news!

I've been hunting urban deer for over 30 years, and I've had so many hunts seeing cats and dogs coming by me I can't remember them all. I've always reasoned that if the cats and dogs spooked deer away from me then just as many times when I didn't see the cats and dogs, they probably spooked deer to me. Cats and dogs are just part of urban hunting just like coyotes. One of my best urban spots was a narrow strip of oak trees between two factory's parking lots. Deer used this strip of woods to eat the acorns and also to travel from one bigger wooded area to another larger wooded area. I got use to shooting deer while hearing semis, tow motors, and people's voices. I use to tell folks I was an expert at hunting factory deer.
@DillanPlowman
@DillanPlowman Жыл бұрын
I agree on the baiting thing with lee, it’s a necessary evil here in NC. Although I choose my spots off natural movement, I don’t have one spot over 10 acres. But it’s because where the properties are positioned in between where the deer do reside I can catch them traveling through the smaller properties back and forth to the bigger properties and ag fields. And if the smaller guy like me does not use bait to encourage the deer to come my way there’s so many more options for them on bigger places. If it wasn’t for bait a lot of my hunting spots would not be huntable for an entire season. I personally just use the bait for does cause 9 times outta ten the buck won’t eat at the corn pile in daylight much but he will follow a doe through or skirt the bait.

I bought a freezer this year cyber Monday deal for $350. And 3 deer it will have paid for itself. Processed myself and mixed 1/3 burger 2/3 venison. Equaled $1 per pound for 50 lbs each deer. That cost me $210 tags included. Paying for burger at $4 a pound would be $600 for that same 150 lbs of meat

How much was your bow? How much was your camo? How much gas did you spend to go hunting? Do you pay a lease? How much money did you give up by taking off work to go hunting? I don't think deer pays for itself at least not the way most people hunt. If I took the money I spent on deer hunting I could probably start a cattle ranch.
@jon_because
@jon_because Жыл бұрын
@@rupertmedford3901 I understand there's many more cost but a lot of them I don't count. Bow was $379 Bear species RTH. But I have put thousands of arrows thru it as hobby in my backyard so I don't consider that a hunting cost. I am fortunate that my yard is surrounded by thousands of acres of state land so I don't have travel cost or lost time at work. Which I understand is not normal but I'm lucky. Did have $80 for grinder and $80 for vacuum sealer that I would consider those cost but each year those cost would be divided out.

I'm 30 mins south of Atlanta been Urban hunting since 2005. Not gonna lie I was not a happy camper when the cat was out of the bag. City deer are smarter than people give them credit. Some of the areas these deer live are places the can't build on. So it's super thick. Trying to hunt the edges of the thick stuff can be tricky to access.

I'm quite warn out by this crying about corn piles and not crying about baiting with food/kill plots, mock scrapes, scent bombs, and other baiting methods. This entire show for me is based on the premise you can knock on doors and get permission to hunt world class deer. Im sorry but that doesnt add up when every land owner in the world has a friend or family member that hunts it already. Talk about living in a fairy tale. Everyone go out and knock on a hundred doors, report back how many P&Y deer you get access too. Ill wait. Its hard to find even a decent lease but Seek expects us to believe you can find 180s everywhere you turn to hunt for free, oh ok.

Well I got two p&y deer on properties I knocked for permission in Ohio and WV this season. Got my biggest in 2020 on a permission piece. 4 of my p&y deer in the last 3 years came from 3 different permission pieces. What is so unbelievable about this? It takes some effort and I get lots of no's but it's worth it when you get a yes. Just picked up another property for next year. This now is his life/job. Imagine how much time he has to look for these deer with no regular job.

This type of urban hunting gives hunters a bad name..I accidentally hit a deer with my truck in December and I had people actually yelling at me like I hit their dog..3 people from different houses acting like it was my fault.. Alot of urban people are against hunting these deer and then people rub it in by trying to hunt them and knocking on doors..This type of hunting is bad for the sport and its not hard to shoot a huge deer in town. These deer are conditioned to people pets intrusion etc..I would be more proud of a doe on public land than a 160 urban deer. O and you should have heard those home owners when I opened my tailgate and threw that deer in the bed of my truck..lol My treestand was visible also when the tailgate dropped..You would have thought I was Satan himself... This is in Illinois were alot of us hunt.

@@kohenmossor3549 you mean his entire team of people looking for a big buck. Theres no way in hell a guy could cover this much property and just luck into this many big bucks all year, year after year. I simply dont believe it. Most landowners will shut the door in your face unless you have some type of legit connection to them. The days of walking up and knocking on most doors to hunt are over. "Shut the door in your face". I don't understand what you are going on about? He does have several people in his group that all do what he is doing. Why would that matter? You guys tickle me. Deer aren't smart, they are instinctive. They don't pattern hunters, however, they do react to what is going on around them, especially if it is different. Generally speaking, we hunt a nocturnal animal during daylight hours. That alone makes the hunt difficult. Add in the great instincts which keep them alive, they are a tremendous challenge, and I applaud your success. Whitetails have no idea they are being hunted. Take away their ability to smell where a human has walked hours earlier and the challenge would be diminished. Best wishes and hunt with safety in mind.
