Got all of Bowies albums , this is my favourite , him and Brian Eno , I remember driving home one night 1976 at 2 oclock in the morning no one else on the road in my 1971 VW beetle . pitch dark , road reflectors stream towards me and the sound of Low coming out of my 8 track yes , 8 track , "Always crashing in the same Car ", then "Warszawa " that had me staring into the night I still have the beetle

Low is one of my very favorite Bowie albums. Absolutely brilliant. I’ve always loved the Berlin Trilogy and have looked at it as proof that there is a bit of the Phoenix in all of us-that when we feel we’ve crashed and burned, if we don’t give up, we can end up creating some of our very best pieces of work. Alex, you mentioned Hansa studios in Berlin where the Berlin trilogy was recorded, coincidentally, my friend Bobbo of The Fallen Stars just booked time there to record. I’m a bit jelly that he gets to roam the halls where these albums of Bowie’s were recorded. Oh, the stories those walls could tell!

Hadn’t noticed the bit of Bo Diddly beat there…. Another track where that rhythm is hugely apparent is in the song ‘1969’ by the Stooges. This makes me think of the ‘Amen’ drum break! From the song ‘Amen,Brother’ by the Winston’s(from 1969)…. Listen to the drum break at 1.27 into that song…that 10 second drum break forms the cornerstone and basis of most Drum and Bass music!!

Cracking version! At first I was hearing that bass tone and thinking to myself that once again David is getting these awesome bass tones and then it dawned on me that it might be Meshell Ndegeocello on bass here (if you don’t know her, check out her excellent album Peace Beyond Passion, in particular my favourite being her cover of Bill Withers’ Who Is (S)He And What Is (S)He To You), which would also explain the tight playing and vocals from her. Then when it got to the piano improv I suspected that it was also Mike Garson on piano, who David’s worked with before and gave us all the amazing outro piano on David’s Dead Man Walking. David has collaborated with so many superb musicians. It’s always a treat.

That's Gail Ann Dorsey on the bass, she played with Bowie from 1995 to the very end. An awesome musician. And yeah, Garson on the piano.

Absolutely loved bowie, the biggest compliment that can be given to his musical legacy is that it's so vast and varied that anyone could select a favourite over so many classics, and by classics I don't mean the mainstream song's that we all know and love but also the hidden gems on any of his albums throughout the decades of his legacy.... A truly wonderfully unique, gifted, and humble man who passing was mourned world wide.

Bo Diddley yes I've always said that and people just stare at me. Gotta listen to this recorded as well it's beautifully produced. It was 14 in UK. He wrote it about a time when he was really depressed and creatively bereft. Typically Bowie likes having perky music to darker lyrics and vice versa.Bowie said he couldn't dance his way out of a wet paper bag but it's true he is so comfortable on stage and good looking, English teeth or not, that elegant is the perfect word.

Any reason why you did not play the original studio recorded version? As the brilliance of Visconti’s production (and Eno’ input) on this track ( and album) is such a huge part of what made it so brilliant. Especially the synth snare drum sound !
