A brilliant song. Even far greater that he is no longer here with us. The final minute is an explosion of psychedelic and powerpop majesty. The way it closes out is just unbelievable. The closest band i can say to this is the 70s Who, but its got more. This should of been huge, but so often the brilliant songs dont reach the masses. Thankyou so much MT.

@@dannymiles6503 quite weird really, most of his life was spent trying to sound ahead of his time then he manages to produce an album that sounds more 60’s than the 60’s , whereas with PIN UPS he modernised the tracks and brought them up to date, thinking we have another MASTERPIECE here!!!
@dannymiles65033 жыл бұрын
@@Paul-ob1lc Hello Paul, there you go Pin Ups. What an album and love the cover art with his own writing in that blue/pink visual effect as if its jumping out at you. I have to admit i have nowhere near the knowledge of our host MT, or maybe yourself about his life and recorded work. Only that ive loved him since 72 and 76-79 was very influential and intense, as i saw him up close in 78. The obscure songs of 65-67 contain real songwriting genius i agree. He was hugely admiring of Syd Barrett and i think he was shaped by that for most of what lay ahead. The early songs reveal what a rare talent he was and we may of got lots more earlier if the record companies had obliged.Some would of been huge. I do love the original of this. This one is psychedelic powerpop genius with shades of The Who/Beachboys and UK60s finest. I also love the obscure When I Met You even though its openly on the No Plan EP I love 60s Mother Grey a lot and many others showing he is the very rarest of all artists from as early as 65.

The original from 1965 may be musically deemed "Freak Beat" - a British genre that sat between the ending of Mod & Psychedelia

My ONE big wish when David was alive was for him to tour playing only songs recorded & released between 1964 & 1969, making the encore "Space Oddity"... after all the effort and change of styles... he started to make it. So many great songs and often lesser known during this 5 year apprenticeship period.

PS but of course he would not oblige!

@@ianharwell7500 Maybe, but then why did he rerecord all those songs in the early 2000's? Who knows what he would've done if this record would have had come out? He was playing " Can't Help Thinking About Me" live around this point.

@@azorbz9286 I know I still don't like it even if HE did it LOL. So the box set just for TOY isn't the same packaging that's in the SUPER EXPENSIVE box set...This to me, is a kinda, sorta a rip-off. PLUS Where the hell is the 5th CD from that Brilliant Live Adventures? The box set that didn't come as a box set and you had to even BUY the damn box! WTF? I've written to MusicNow the people that man his website, they have no answers. Back in June they did a survey asking which ones is everyone missing. Not a peep since then and I am not going to buy from the rip-off people on eBay who were wanting over $50.00 for one damn cd...

Not sure you will have had a copy of all these completed - and, in the standalone Toy boxset, new mixes. The bootlegged tracks were unfinished working mixes.

The "baby Bowie" looks hideous, otherwise I've know and liked the 1965 original since hearing in the early 1980's. This remake is still pretty good and would stand out as a decent Bowie song if new to audiences. The man WAS a musical genius regardless.

Crazy to imagine now but the main reason at the time to not release Toy was basically lack of fan interest (or critical/public) he was very almost a cult act at that point.
