I have several King Arthur tools and I would give more warning on how dangerous the Lancelot tool is. I see the instructor is wearing gloves and safety gear which is a must when using this tool. It is a good tool that removes a lot of wood real fast but many people have lost fingers using this tool. Be safe out there.

Umm no? I can make a bowl like this in 1/4 the time with far less dust and noise. I'm not quite sure how it's simpler? Other than leaving the pith in Mavrick did great It's just not even in the same league as a lathe especially with this type of shape( round) had it been a four leaf clover or something a lathe would never be able to do then I can see your point.

another Q please? ---I noticed the cracks in the raw wood before you started---does that mean I should wait until the wood I use is completely dry ? (I have some that's half-way dry---would that work or will it split more after I make a bowl?---it has cracks similar in size to yours which makes me think yours is not completely dry) I have some that's completely dry but it has big cracks that might cause the bowl to break as I work it. Do you think if I cut from green wood can I just continually cover it so it dries real slow??
@maverickjaillet93987 жыл бұрын
I just grabbed a chunk of wood that was in the drying shed. I was about half dry. I prefer wood that is as dry as possible. I filled the cracks with epoxy. I usually keep the wood in manageable sized logs. I paint the ends with something...I've used Anchorseal, paraffin wax and other products, but i just paint the ends with some old paint that's around. I like to stand the painted logs on a pallet and forget them for 2-3 years...yes, years. I have no science to back this up, however, my theory is that air can flow around the log and the paint (or whatever) creates a more controlled release of moisture. I usually lose 2-3 inches off the ends of the log due to cracking. I have a couple of logs that I didn't get around to painting and now they're firewood, or spoons and cups, as they've nearly cracked in half. There is no sure thing to keep wood from cracking. If you can get "dead standing" wood...in other words, a tree that has been dead for a few years and still standing, it's usually the most stable.

Tried this. Scared me. It's so easy for the chain saw to get out of control. The outside was great, but the inside was not so easy. I ended up doing the inside a different way, so I didn't make a mistake and ruin my burl sink.

I'm not real sure about this. I have both the chainsaw blade and the grinder/shaper blade, but worry about it kicking back and tearing me up. What is the accident rate of these two blades? The chainsaw blade looks most dangerous to me. Even with a regular chainsaw I've had to take several of my crew to the hospital to get sewn up after they experienced kickback clearing brush. I want to use these for the results, but am not so sure I can do it safely. What do you think?
