I was hoping this would be another video on your round house, but this was pretty good as well. It's mind blowing to me how you can hit with such precision at your age. Typically you'd only see this level precision from older craftsmen. Because of that during this video I kept thinking that you'd mess up an edge of your piece by continuing with the axe for as long as you did. :D

You are very good with your hand tools. I've never seen that string thing before...I will be using it. You can take the sharp edge of a rounded knife, or even a piece of broken glass and scrape wood and get a smother finish than sanding. I use an old stainless steel spoon sharpened on one side. A really outstanding job.

Your bowls are among some of the nicest Ibe seen on here. The way you find your boards with strong is a new one on me and easiest for me to follow. Thanks for the video. It's too bad you have to work from a storage unit but in a way, it's better. You can leave the chips behind and not take them with you, lol.

Really nice! I'm always surprised to see in these bowl carving videos that no one seems to be using cabinet scrapers to refine the surface. I've had great results using them on my humble projects.
@CleaveMountaineering2 жыл бұрын
I'm using a custom cabinet scraper on my first carved bowl. Made the scraper in about 5 minutes from a scrap bandsaw blade (3" wide). Layout, snip, file, done. Rolls chips.

@KrisHarbour8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Palmer Hi tom, well the problem is that it is so physically demanding sometimes you don't have the energy. i would love to do some turning as well. i have never turned a bowl on a lathe and really want to get in to it at some point. i just don't have the space or the tools at the moment. i think alot more projects would get done if i could stand in front of a lathe and work rather than swinging the axe getting blisters. i do enjoy it, but you have to be in the right mood and feeling strong.
