Rice in asian country that produce their own rice is actually kinda.. cheap. If a meal is priced 1 USD, the rice part is maybe only just 0.3 USD. The rest are for the veg/meat part. Edit: oh forgive me. At least that what happen in here, Jawa island, Indonesia. Rice is kinda cheaper than the "side dish"
