I have been bowling now for only seven years (I’m 53). I have never taken an official lesson, and I have taught myself by watching the PBA pros and KZbin. I have got to say, your channel is fantastic. I am learning some key fundamental, small and easy adjusts that I need to correct. My average is 190, and I bet after using the knowledge you guys are passing on, it will soon be over 200. Thanks! Keep up the great work the videos coming…

I just found out, the crossover step is the reason I use three steps and not 4! I started with duck pins in 1974 and swithced to tenpins in the late 80's. I take two half-steps starting with the left foot as I am right-handed, ending with a longer slide with the left and the right swinging behind my back to finish. My throw does not have much power, just more accuracy. For proper context, I never won any individual trophy for championship of any kind. I am 5''6", 150 lbs and now 75 YO. Just perfectly happy scoring in the low 200s and spoiling championship dreams of some people.

Just got back on the lanes yesterday. If folks are still hesitant to get back to bowling, then let me just say this. AMF/Bowlero bowling centers have their stuff together! Mask regulations, every other lane open for distancing, some lanes pre-setup with house balls (to limit spreading of germs of course) and some left open for bowlers with their own equipment. I actually enjoyed it more than pre-pandemic bowling because I knew I didn't have to worry about people bowling next to me. It felt really good to be back out there!

I picked up on this a little bit last night as I seem to struggle when I was taking that first step in the five step approach I felt as if my left foot was going out could not figure out why. I do plan to work on it but here is my question when you’re standing a little bit more open and your stance on the right hand and bowler that’s when it feels like I do it more often or is that my imagination. Any other tip on this particular video would be helpful and I thank you in advance

@JakkeJakobsen
@JakkeJakobsen 3 жыл бұрын
The step after the crossover should go a bit more to the left, not in front of the right foot like it may sound from this. You'd want to open your hips and shoulders. If your swing goes back and your balance arm forward thumb down, it's pretty hard not to open up tbh. You can see Brad's third step being a bit out to the left. You get your left foot underneath your body again with the slide going slightly right to get the foot close to the ball! Source: ETBF coach level 1 course

Me and some friends have started bowling weekly or every other week or so. First time, no pain. But we only played like 2-3 rounds. No pain during, or after. Next time we went we bowled like 5 rounds. Pain started in like the 4th round and still hurts 3 days later. Pain is in the left side of my left leg. Below the glute and down the thigh. The “iliac” I believe. I presume its just soreness from the constant bowling motion. I walk up, “plant” the left foot, and sweep my right foot behind me. And idk if it matters but was using the heaviest ball(16). But I noticed some ppl mentioning “plant” vs “slide”?? Am i NOT supposed to plant my foot? Walk up, i guess a little “slide” into place then i plant my left foot and sweep my right leg back? Im not aware of any other less straining way to do this. I just thought it is what it is, part of bowling. And maybe the more i bowl, itll just go away after my leg gets used to it? But if im wrong and theres a safer and better way that puts lets stress on the leg, please lemme know!! I enjoy bowling but if this pain is constant and possibly harmful in the long run, then def not worth it imo. Would appreciate any advice, thank you👍🏼

@jeffoconnor1192

If you take an odd number of steps you wouldn’t start on your right foot. So you’d want to cross over on your second step. The first step (with your left foot) should be a very small step. There have been videos in this from B&K before. If you take like a 7 step approach I’d guess it’d be around your fourth step to keep timing good. How many steps do you take?
@michaelvandehey6860

@@jeffoconnor1192 tbh, I'm not even sure how many steps I take. I have an odd stance. For me, my left foot is directly in front of my right foot....kinda like you're doing a sobriety test for a police officer (lol). My calves are too large for me to put my feet completely side by side.

This probably won't be read, but... So, im 44. Growing up 4 step was how I learned and the predominant way. 5 step was growing, but wasn't "the" way. Fast forward. I still 4 step, but I struggle with speed. No.. not that way. I cant get my ball speed DOWN. Im consistently 17. And can't seem to drop below... 16. A team mate and the PSO told me I should switch to 5 step and that would help slow me down. I dont see it or understand how. If the 5 step first step is a... waste and the 2nd is the timing step, that to me seems to add another place for inconsistencies in your approach and potential timing issues. Is the 5 step ACTUALLY that much better? Is it something I should be working on for my issue or do I need to look at something else (I think its in my release) Thanks guys! (My goal... bowl a regional. Currently 213 average at 2 different houses, 425-450rpm, 17mph)
