Trey Parker and Matt Stone were interviewed in "Bowling for Columbine" right before this cartoon runs. They were angry about the segway because they said people seeing this movie thought they made this cartoon. Trey Parker did win a Student Academy Award for a short film on the history of America when he was in college. Go figure.

Full transparency for those who don’t know. This was done in a kind of South Park style animation and while yes Matt Stone and Trey Parker did appear in the documentary, the short you just watched was not made by either of them.

watching this in context of the film you realize that this is actually about how its not guns that are the issue (admitting that many other cultures have much lower mass gun murder rates but still guns are not illegal just more difficult to obtain), but because of a culture of fear of the other that lead to othering and paranoia

Too bad the person who made this is a partisan fool, lol. From a historical perspective, it is the biggest bastardisation and Ad hoc interpretation of history ever. Also heavily predicated on stereotypes. As a person from a country that gave up their guns, never give up your guns. It takes about 20 years, but you eventually get a police state. And not a heavy handed cop situation like the Us has. Your courts still are independent. I’m talking where the police state becomes the law of the land. I don’t fear terrorists. I fear the government.

They kick your door in at 4am, drag you off to jail, and hold you in solitary confinement for a month until you sign a bail order that forbids you from free speech. Literally happened to multiple people here. In my state we have a lot of knife crime. The penalty for carrying a knife can now be 10 years in prison. And god forbid you use a knife to defend yourself. If you’re attacked and use a knife in self defence you can go to prison for years. More years than your assailant may be up for. We live in a state that wants you as weak and vulnerable as can be. So you friend on the police for protection. Which only further creates a police state.

Amazing intro to the next section on how mass media fed into fear and paranoia for decades, which was basically the equivalent of pouring a gallon of racing fuel on top of an all consuming inferno. And he was right; you can easily draw a correlation between gun ownership and gun violence, and the 24/7 broadcasts on how your neighbors are crack fiend sociopaths just biding their time before dispatching you and your loved ones and the rates of non stranger gun violence.

Watching Trey and Matt on Charlie Rose right now and Trey talked about how Moore approached them to make a cartoon and he said no, I own guns. Then he asked Matt to do an interview and he said that was OK and Matt was OK with how he came out in the movie. But then Moore played this animation afterwards to give you the impression that they (South Park) did it, so that was very misrepresentative of Moore. And that's why Moore gets blown up as a ham in Team America World Police. I agree with the cartoon somewhat but that was kind of bullshit of Moore to pull. But that's what he does..

@@valentinabarrientos The cartoon sucks because there is too much straw man and not enough steel man. I personally agree with the overall idea that our gun culture is harmful and largely based on fear, but it doesn't help the argument if you don't accurately portray the opposing point of view. If you're right about something you should be able to take the other side's best argument and still explain how it's wrong. This cartoon simplifies the pro-gun position so much that it misrepresents it. We don't need to misrepresent their motivations and opinions to prove they're wrong. Appearing to need to do so undermines our own arguments.

This is actually not true. The first European colony in what now constitutes the USA, was not English, but the Spanish colony of La Florída established 1513, so 93 years before the first English colony, when The Colony of Virginia, was chartered in 1606 and settled in 1607, (I don't use the word British because Britton means Wales in Cymru, but that's a separate subject). And the first city founded by Europeans on land that now makes up the USA, was by the Spanish, namely San Agustín, which, to date, is the oldest European city/establishment in the USA. Furthermore, the first person of white European descent born within borders that now represents the country of the USA, which is also a concept that marks the establishment of a European colony in the New World, especially in the historiography of the United States, was also of Spanish heritage, and not English. It was Martín de Argüelles, born 1566 in San Agustín, La Florída, which is 21 years before Virginia Dare, who was the first person of English ancestry born in Roanoke Colony, present-day state of North Carolina, USA.
