I have found out a couple things that really help me. Number one: Mental game. Montra: Just throw strikes the score will take of itself. If I roll strikes I know I will make my avg over and over again. Two: Makeable spares: Hit your spares. If you leave a stone nine or eight.. make them. If you leave the bucket, make it. Leave a ten pin. Hit it. Practice ten pins during your practice warmup. I roll more at the ten pin during practice than I do strike shots. I hit the pocket easily, I don't always hit the ten pin. Practice it. Play lowball when you are at your House practicing. Ten pins kill scores more than any other pin or split.Three: No open frames. Try and keep a clean game. This alone will increase your avg substantionally. Four, score: I never look at the score. Not my score, not my teams score. I don't keep count of how many frames I have bowled even. Somebody will let me know when it's the tenth frame and I have to keep rolling. I can't tell you how much pressure that takes off of me. Not worrying if I have to do something to try and win the game. I just keep rolling until someone tells me game is over. When I practice by myself, I'm always surprised when I do look up and see I'm actually three or four frames into the next game. Just keep rolling. Five... have fun.It's not life or death if you miss a shot. Your family still loves you. You still get your birthday. Your dog still thinks you are the greatest thing on earth. Have fun. Using these rules for me, took me from that 170ish to 215ish bowler. I don't have great revs or speed. Down and in. 285-325 revs, and 16-18mph depending on my angles. Practice ten pins. Then practice more ten pins. Then practice even more ten pins. Thanks guys, great vids.

The biggest thing I see among people who are kinda perma stuck in the 190's is missing easy spares. They just give back too many doubles too frequently. Obviously not all houses and league patterns are equal, but most pretty getable houses don't require you to have a great physical game to average 200. You'll back your way into a look for a window often enough to throw some strikes.

The mental game is definitely *HUGE.* My best game ever, I wasn't focused on any particular goals and just throwing one shot at a time. I noticed my strikes stringing up but intentionally ignored it. Then, after getting the front eight, someone in the next lane said something about it and I 6-10'd the last two frames, missing on the first attempt to pick it up.

I bowled league tonight after watching the video this afternoon. I focused on three things: 1) control the pocket, 2) don't worry about score, and 3) ball choice. I am your target audience, 175 avg bowler. First game I rolled 245. Just like you said, I didn't pay attention to the score. Honestly, my teammate said, nice 5-bagger. I didn't know! Of course, next shot I yanked it a bit, but still made the spare. In the early part of game 2, I switched balls from a Hyroad to a Phaze 2. I thought the Hyroad wasn't coming into the pocket as strongly as it did. I moved in 6 boards from 17 to 23 and made the Phaze 2 work, a little slower, giving it time. Game 2: 187, Game 3: 205, 637 overall. To thank you enough, I will join B&K bowling. See you there.

@kenthanson3 ай бұрын
Seems like you need to work on release and speed consistency. You can hit the pocket a lot of different ways but if you release it slightly different each time your ball will hit the pins differently. So pay attention to how your ball is driving through the pins and where in the pocket the ball is hitting. And if you leave a 7, 8 and 10 in consecutive frames and you think you’ve hit the same place in the pocket every time ask someone else to either watch for you or record it and let you know where you’re actually hitting the pocket.
@CliftonDon743 ай бұрын
@@kenthansonThanks for response. This is my 43rd league season. My speed is actually very consistent (I mostly use my legs). I can maintain at 17.1-17.2mph on lanes that have a speed monitor. I may try changing balls after 2 pocket 9's. Thanks again.

I have been struggling ever since I developed problems with my feet. Metatarsagia and a hammer toe in the left and a year later metatarsagia in the right. I had surgery on the left that went well. But through it all my balance suffered and I developed some really bad habits. I was pushing so hard to get back on track but my average was plummeting. Last week a fellow bowler came over to me and politely asked if it would be okay to offer an opinion. I said yes. He told me if I videotaped myself I would see that my body is twisting and moving all over the place. He said that Kyle Troupe in a tournament, while bowling poorly, wrote a note to himself that said “quiet mind, quiet body”. He said perhaps I should take a deep breath and say those words before my shots. I did and everything changed. My first near 600 series in well over a year. Sometimes without knowing it you can try so hard you lose perspective.

One tip I and many some others is what can you do when you constantly leave ringing 10 pins no mater what you try ,move back ,move draper into the oil ?
@kenthanson3 ай бұрын
Not all pocket hits are equal and if you’re consistently ringing tens that means you aren’t hitting it right. Now how to adjust for it depends on your skill set. I prefer to take a little speed off so the ball will pick up a bit earlier and hopefully hit higher in the pocket. You can also go one and one with your feet and target but I’ve found that people end up in the same spot even if they move their feet unless they have excellent body control. Regarding the balls to bring to league. If you take 3 balls, like Brad in this video, would they all be drilled the same? I like to have the same layout for every ball. I'm averaging 224 but I do this to see the difference in the ball and where it's gonna work in my arsenal. I feel changing layouts on every ball will make you question your game when it's not working right.
@supersoniq35063 ай бұрын
@@steve4880 I made an error. I bring 4 and a spare ball. 2 medium oil balls (same ball, one solid, one pearl) and 2 light oil balls (same ball, one solid, one pearl) all drilled the same. I average mid 190's and am fishing for solutions. The house I bowl at is putting down a pattern that breaks down really fast (and I'm left handed, so let than sink in 🙂). In short, after the first game, there is a severe over under reaction. It's gotten so bad, people are leaving and bowling elsewhere. This is nice bowling center (hosted a US open a few years ago), not sure why they are so afraid of putting down some oil! Maybe I should be using stronger equipment that doesn't rev up late?

My biggest problem right now is I've been leaving quite a few pocket splits, especially 7-10, 4-9, and 8-10.
@kenthanson3 ай бұрын
Every split is left because of a reason so you have to really figure out how your ball is reacting when it’s driving through the pins. Go practice and record your shot and pay attention to how the ball deflects or dies when it hits the pins. Your ball might be rolling out to early so there’s no energy left to drive through the pins or if the ball is deflecting huge off of the pocket hit your might not have enough revs to continually drive through.
@willwoll31383 ай бұрын
@@kenthanson I have high (400+) revs and only 12 mph ball speed due to age and injuries. Because of this, I have an arsenal of plastic balls. My number one is the KR Strikeforce Clear Rose which has so much backend for me, a fellow bowler nicknamed it "reactive plastic". The house shot in our league this year has a very dry outside and backend. Sometimes I think the ball is coming in at TOO sharp an angle. My historic ball reaction has been skid hook, then hook some more. I could never get the ball to go into a roll, but I used to have enough speed to mellow the reaction. A great tip from these guys : "don't pay attention to your score" .. I have used this technique for many years in golf. It can make a HUGE difference a lot of times. Focus on 1 shot at a time. Score is irrelevant. You aren't going to perform any better just because you know your score.

Any advice for when a house can't lay down the same house shot week to week? Ever since my home alley management changed there hasn't been one league night where the pattern wasn't drastically different from the previous week's. Main differences are volume, width , and length of the pattern. And no, this is not a sport shot league; this is supposed to be a standard 41' house pattern.
@batl_born7023 ай бұрын
The number one issue I see league bowlers struggle with is footwork. An inconsistent approach will always result in inconsistent shots. I know people are going to say the biggest issue is spare shooting. To that I still say you can’t make consistently accurate shots with inconsistent footwork. Fix your approach and everything else will follow.

Could someone explain to me why you'd go to a weaker ball in later games? I thought if the lane kinda breaks down, the oil would be pushed further back as well. Wouldn't it make sense to go to a stronger ball to make up for the longer oil pattern so to speak? At least that's how it feels for me, I usually throw a Rotogrip Hustle Camo first because it will not overreact/has enough dry in the back to react. I have trouble with my Radical Rattler not going Brooklyn on me at the beginning. But later on, it feels more controllable/ I cant keep my Hustle from burning up (I think that's what you'd call it at least).
@JoeBrrFan3 ай бұрын
I use my strong ball first. Then I step down a ball. Then I move left, I bring back my stronger ball to create the hook I need. I start up the 8 board standing on 15, I end up on the 10 board standing on the 20 board. So to me, it just makes sense to go to my stronger ball when I move left. I need it to create more hook. 215ish avg. Revs 285-325, speed is 16-18 depending on my angles.
@CliftonDon743 ай бұрын
It depends on the day and how the lane pattern breaks down in your house. Some days, I start off with my Hustle M-M and end up in my Black Widow 3.0 by game 3, the reverse happens other times and ither times, I stay in my Phaze 2 all 3 games. If you need something to clear the front part of the lane instead of hooking at your feet, a weaker ball is the answer. When the oil is gone from the front part of the lane, a strong ball will usually use a lot of it's energy first and not have enough left for the pins. It's a plan that can be adjusted depending on the situation.
@Numb9863 ай бұрын
When someone says ball down to a weaker ball, it largely has to do with *when* the ball hooks. A solid, strong ball will cover a lot of boards, but more importantly, it will start absorbing oil and hooking earlier on the lane. Once transition hits and the lanes are burned up, you want a ball that will skid longer through the dried up areas in order to hit the oil down lane. If you're fighting transition and ball up, your ball will most likely hook at your feet and look like it goes dead straight
@Ironfangzu3 ай бұрын
That's because modern reactive balls are oil sponges. When you bowl on the freshly oiled pattern, you use your stronger ball. But as ball after ball goes down the lane, not only do they push the oil down, (and this is especially with urethane balls), but the oil is actual soaked up by all those balls. As a result the lanes "dry up", so to speak. You no longer have the oil that you had on the fresh. The oil is pushed down, yes, but more importantly there is just less and less of it. So you take a weaker ball to stay in the pocket. Otherwise that perfect strike you threw in frame 1, game 1, will be missing the pocket and even the head pin, and leaving you the awful 1-3-6-8-10 by the end of game 3.
@TerryGetler2 ай бұрын
use a reactive resin ball! that's good for a 40% increase in carry.
@princeofgreece9054Ай бұрын
On the ball point though, I think more than 3 bowling balls is just too much. In my eyes, you can easily get away with 2. One for heavy oil and one for light oil. For a very long time I only had 1 and averaged 200. It’s all about making the right adjustment.

OK, I am confused. I thought a rule of thumb on a house shot was to start with your weaker ball (For me that's a Hustle) and play farther right. As that shot burns up and you start leaving weak 10's you go to a stronger ball (Fore me that's maybe a Magic Gem) and move left. It sounds like you guys are describing just the opposite. What happens to me is when I move left with the weaker ball it doesn't come around the corner hard enough and I leave weak 10's and 7's. I usually start at around 14 or 15 out to 8 and back. I try to move to 16 or 17 to 8 and back with the stronger ball. Any ideas?????

I imagine it varies house to house; it definitely does where I live. In my "home" house, where I bowl in two leagues, we have a VERY predictable house shot, so I can start my series with my strongest ball. I actually have to ball DOWN around the end of game 2 or the start/middle of game 3. But in a house across town, it's the opposite. My weak ball is the first out of the bag, and I have to ball UP later on.

Here’s actually how to do it. Go to the pro shop buy any ball and you will average 200 if you can walk to the foul line. It’s that simple today. I’m 54 , I bowl 3 games a week with zero practice ever and I average 230 in league. I was averaging 220s in the early 90s with junk equipment on wood lanes. My teammate is also averaging in the 230s and he’s using a 30 year old ball you’ve never even heard of .

I am limited on ball speed. I love this game but I take medication for my Brain Cancer and it limits my strength. Right now I have a 14 pound ball. Throwing it around 13mph. I have moved to the 25 board just to keep the ball close to the pocket consistently. Should I stay there or buy a different ball that moves less. I have a Storm IQ right now. My average keeps moving up. Two leagues I’m up to 173. I was 162 last year.

Kyle; I am 78 yrs.old.I hook the ball similar to you. I am righthanded,and I start with my left foot on the 30 board or further left. My problem is usually the right lane. My ball speed is 10,or 11 mph.once the lanes start transitioning I really struggle because I don't have room to get further left with my feet because of the ball return. Solution??

Life long Mets fan, and i honestly thought Peterson wasn't even a Fifth starter, and I wanted him gone, he had so many quality starts last year I actually look forward ro his starts, and he is easy to root for. I really hope he's a big part of the Mets again going into this year, and has even more success.

tell us the weight of the ball your using please, no one ever tells us the weight not on one video.
@bamsuchanan8 күн бұрын
Its gonna be 15 or 16. Most likely 16. More weight = more carry = more pins

Just strike 60% of the time... jk spares are the easiest and I really need to get better at the right side if I want to keep my early season average.

So right. Probably a lot of the keyboard pros are lifetime 150 averages that don't put any effort into getting better.
