For a long time I have been searching for a solid way to explain a good release and this is by far the best I have ever seen! GREAT JOB!!!!

Really amazing explanation of release, this is exactly my problem. Ive watched countless videos on proper release, none of them focus on hand position in a clear way, and the visuals here are great.

This is the best visual aid, description and demonstration of a proper ball release I’ve seen - very cool! For the first time, I see how the thumb stays on a constant axis pointing down the line and to the right a little. I see how the hand and fingers rotate around a constant thumb axis to create spin on the ball with the forearm facing forward throughout. It makes so much sense. Now I clearly get it and am excited to try it! Thanks so much for sharing that tip!

Yeah if your thumb hole on your ball is drilled to the side of your fingers. I've never seen a ball drilled the way his thumb is positioned compared to his fingers.

seneca627 Think outside the box for just a minute. Take your thumb and point it to 2 (on a clock)... where's your wrist? where's your fingers? sideways!!

This is a good illustration, it's great to have visuals like this. So, if you keep your forearm flat and straight through to the target, that will take care of the hand. It's easier to control a bigger body part than the hand which is smaller. If the forearm doesn't rotate early, neither does the hand.

1,000 thumbs up! This is a damn good video. What a great visual aid. I might feel a little doofy doing this at the lanes, but I will definitely try it out at home and get the muscle-memory going.

@RaymondHinton I feel so weird doing some drills at the lanes. Especially the foul line drill from Joe Slowinski. Just stand at the foul line in the finish position and have a mini swing with the release I'm practicing. Ball always goes in the left gutter, people are like "wtf is he doin?"

will an early turn of the wrist cause the thumb to stick in the ball? Also, I cup the ball on my swing. Am I not uncupping in time. I've been trying to get a proper swing and release (just bought a ball and want to do things right). It's hard fighting old habits so I am struggling, but, several times the ball wouldn't even leave my hand. Thanks for any help.

If you’ve got your ball drilled to be able to hold it like you’re holding your hand in this video you’ll have a broken thumb or not inside the ball but resting on the outside of it.

Look at his hand though, the position of his fingers compared to his thumb. I've never seen a bowling ball drilled where the thumb was completely to the side of the fingers. His thumb would have to be directly under his fingers to accurately simulate a release.

seneca627 I knew something was strange about this video. Every time I try to get my thumb pointing right, it gets stuck and I loft the ball to my left. The only way I can get my thumb pointing right is by bending my wrist...and a straight wrist seems more important for a consistent release.

I think I'll try this but I'll use a pink tube instead!! Real men wear pink... Ok ok I'm joking about the tube. But the fact is, I'm going to have to do some major work. That bad shot? After watching this I realize that's exactly what I do. Thanks for the TOW!! Will work on it.....

I don't know about that. I hold my thumb at 10 oclock and I have been doing great this summer. Pointing at 2 oclock or so, would be tough on your wrist i would think. However, I think I had pointed the thumb more like 9 oclock and was twisting my wrist a bit. Going to give this a try anyway, may turn out to be my secret weapon!

Who the fuck has their finger holes drilled like that that though? His thumb hole would have to be a whole 2 inches off centered to the right of his thumb hole with the way that his finger are positioned in the demonstration. Just look at his where his thumb is in relation to his middle and ring finger. Am I missing something here?

Get a transparent ball & show properly where is your thumb pointing at. This video is not great example of good release.

I completely agree. There is absolutely not way for your thumb to point that way if your fingers are in the ball.

The video is demonstrating the finger positions at release. The thumb is out of the ball at release. That is what the video is (doing a great job) of demonstrating.
