thanks for this beautiful video, for some reason I am just now seeing a visual of what my brain has been needing to see for over 50 years, it's been so long I don't even remember the first time i went bowling in the 60's, both my parents were bowlers and i watched them and listened to them. my passion has never waned but i have never had proper instruction and i feel this has been the reason i never quite got to where i wanted to be. for a brief time i got on a small run where enough of the stars aligned and had success with consistency and was able to carry my own weight in a league winning team. all this with never really understanding the mechanics of the release or how to repeat what works. words cannot express how watching these images has finally clicked. unless i screw it up i plan to save this forever until i die!

They always say that when you release, your hand should be under the ball. But none of those releases are under the ball except for the two handers. Maybe that’s why I’m having such a hard time learning. I’m over emphasizing, literally trying to get my hand under the ball at the release.
@lumberlikwidator88632 жыл бұрын
The camera angle, being higher than the bowlers' hands, makes it look like they are under the ball, but they really aren't at the point where their thumb comes out of the ball. If the camera was about six inches off the floor you would see that they are behind the ball, or slightly on top of it, at the release point. To let go of the ball you have to uncup your wrist or you're really gonna loft the ball way down the lane. Don't worry about keeping your hand under the ball through the release. None of these one-handlers do it, and you don't need to do it either. Don't be fooled by the camera angle. A side view, with the camera just off the floor, would give a much clearer picture of what's going on here.
@Callofthegame247 Жыл бұрын
I think the fingers are around the equator just before the thumb exits the ball. The hand certainly isn't underneath.
@lumberlikwidator8863 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. And if you watch very closely the thumb is pointing at about 10-11 o'clock and the fingers are in the area of 4-5 o'clock when the thumb leaves the ball. Which is just about the way bowlers have been coming out of the ball ever since the invention of fingerholes. Today's Great players tend to do what great players have always done. It just looks different because today's bowlers tend to load up the wrist more than 30-40 years ago.
@mikelatimer2584 Жыл бұрын
I know that this reply is really late, but when they say stay under the ball, they mean keep your middle and ring finger underneath the Equator the ball.

Hi. I hope you will also have a slow mo video of a plastic ball for pin No. 10. I wana see how they control the spin. This has been my problem for years now :(
@Jackal_Blitz3 жыл бұрын
Meaning your plastic ball hooks too much when you go for the 10? If you have already made sure the surface is polished well, and cleaned regularly, then the trick is to just flatten out your wrist (don't cup the ball). This places your fingers in a weaker position at the point of release, which will greatly decrease revs. Your plastic ball shouldn't be hooking anyway though - this is how you pick up spares with a reactive or urethane to prevent overreaction.
