I am a one hander. I watch tons of videos with Earl Anthony. Earl was the best! I am trying to be smooth and flow just like him. Timing the arm swing with my final slide step. Earl explained this in great detail. And, I am working on a nice push away timed with my second step. And, I am trying to keep my elbow slightly bent like real. At the top of the swing, I am just being conscious of waiting one split second as I start the slide step. I do not bowl in a league. I would say I bowl about 5 games a week. Averaging about 220. Threw my first Asym ball last week. Boy, was that fun.

I've been bowling as a standard (right handed) thumb in ball bowler for 30+ years and the highest my average has been in league is a 209. I'm 38 years of age now but recently came back to the sport after well over a decade away from bowling. That 209 average was back in when I was about 23 or 24 years of age. Ever since I came back to the sport about a year ago I've been struggling kicking out the 10 pin. I decided to mess around with two handed (no thumb) bowling just because it'd become so popular during the 10+ years span I walked away from bowling. To my surprise I was able to not only strike as a two handed bowler but for the first time ever I actually was seeing plenty of pin carry that I never really saw as a standard bowler. My rev rate as a standard bowler was fairly low. But when I started to bowl two handed I was seeing carry on almost every single shot! Because of that and the fact that I've always had issues getting my thumb properly out of my ball I finally decided I'd make the transition. For 3 or 4 months though I kept using my balls that still had the thumb holes in them and the layouts for my one handed thumb in ball release. However.. I was still putting up some pretty solid scores anytime I decided to bowl two handed. I finally just got all 6 of my balls thumb holes plugged as well as new layouts for my 2H release. I also am having the exact same issues with footwork and ball speed as you mentioned in this video. With my standard release my MPH was usually 16.5-18 MPH depending on a few factors. But since switching to 2H my ball speed is down around 13-14 MPH. Because of this I also had the same thought process as you. Maybe I have to move my feet much faster to generate a faster ball speed? That does give me a little more speed but it also greatly negates my accuracy. It also really screws up my balance at the foul line and it messes with the timing of my backswing and release. I'm happy to hear you've been able to up your ball speed without relying on faster footwork. Thank god! I finally recorded a few shots of me bowling as a 2H last night and in my mind prior to recording a few shots I had it down and had a very smooth approach/release. But after watching the video of me last night I came to the hard realization that I look stiff as a board and I practically look like an ape trying to throw a large boulder through the forest! 🤣 Thankfully I'm still putting up some pretty solid scores in league so my team mates won't be mad at me.. but I definitely have some work to do! Mostly with footwork, ball speed, and balance at the foul line. Here is the video I posted on KZbin of me throwing a two handed shot last night. I'd greatly appreciate it if you or anyone else that reads this super long message can give me any pointers to help with my ball speed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6XVnaqsib2Uo68

Love this comment! Great success story. I recently came back to the game after 9 months off. Due to an old broken neck injury, I have had to slow down and become more methodical. I have found my accuracy go through the roof recently with this change.

I am using 2 hand positions and 2 ball speeds currently, but when I am in my flat hand position and still experiencing over/under, I have to use the speed adjustment. I still need 10 pin improvement for sure though.

@@BowlingScience When bowling using the 2 hands technique, what do you aim at for your strike ball (arrows or dot)? If you do use the dot, which one(s) do you use for your strike line?
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 2 жыл бұрын
I started with dots, but now typically target a foot or two past the dots. As far as left to right, it depends on the oil pattern

Was curious at which point (day) you started your stance more upright instead of so low to the ground? What caused this change and how did it impact your mechanics as a whole at the line? Getting low is still my issue and I tried for a while to compensate by starting off very very low... This worked ok for me for a while but my other mechanics got in the way from my 1-handed and I naturally developed this almost side step that torques my hip pretty hard....causing me to have to stand up or drop about 5 tylenols an hour before league lol.

If I start too low, I lift at the line. The approach should land like a plane, smoothly with the finish being the lowest point.

It's a strong 4" pin layout on a Katana Shiranui. Big core, longer smoother cover. On VERRRRRY dry lanes

The biggest obstacle for me right now is freeing up my swing. I tend to muscle the shot instead of just freeing up the tension and letting the ball work for me. Like I’m trying to add something to the shot. I don’t have anyone to show me the “correct” way for a less muscle dominant arm swing. Any suggestions to stop muscling the swing and gripping the ball hard?
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 3 жыл бұрын
I try to eliminate squeeze early to loosen the swing. Using a more relaxed or broken wrist at the stance and starting with the ball against your body instead of out in front of you both help relax the arm in the stance.

@@BowlingScience thank you for the tip, I will give it a try. I noticed that a lot of the time I’m trying to MAKE something happen opposed to ALLOWING it to. I did try a few other things with good results, such as totally relaxing my arm on the down swing and that helps some...but I think most is mental like trying to put something extra on the shot that just doesn’t belong. If that makes any sense. Anyway, thanks again, I really appreciate the input. ✌🏼❤️ 🎳 🧪
