@@BowlingScience I am well. I did get Covid but it was very minor. I have been saying for some time a Short Pin on a Urethane ball is a very effective layout. Loved the look on your face when you threw that first shot with the Pink! Lol. Glad to see you making new layout videos. Looking forward to more videos with the Pink.

Ok , loved the information provided! I roll 2ls 425 revs on relaxed lift release speed is 18mph off the hand! I run the pink pearl urethane in zone 3, BW urethane solid in zone 2 and mu Brunswick phantom urethane asym in zone1 , looking at the purple hammer for short patterns staying in zone1 or the cusp of zone2 ! Would this help on the purple Hammer?

Awesome! This makes me want to try my short pin layout that your dad gave to me that I love! Quick question unrelated to the bowling lol, what are you using to layout your ball? That looks better then the standard pro shop wax pencil.
@BowlingScience

I will get the name. It's a really old mechanical (twist style) wax pencil. It takes yellow or white wax leads! I think they are super neat.

need to show this to my PSO....His dad is 85 with a fused ankle, so he has no approach, just rolls off the foul line. Always complaining of too much hook, (6mph with 100+ revs) and i suggested moving the pin closer to pap, but the PSO thought it wouldn't result in anything. Also, i might benefit from much shorter pins, as I struggle to keep my speed up over 17 mph but also struggle to keep the revs under 450. I can play up 5th arrow with fresh oil, regardless of the pattern i have encountered. my shiny balls, my dull balls, bout the only one i can count on behaving is the Spy.. I have a few balls I can re-drill to test this out on, but after watching this video, a pink hammer might be my first urethane.
@BowlingScience

You would love a couple short pins... 2.25" in something like an informer and 1.25" in a results max, solid, or OG are gamechangers with those kind of stats... very similar to my speed and Rev rate.
@BowlingScience

Purple hammers drilled strong and pink widows drilled weak are great for high Rev players like yourself! For everyone else, there is the double cross 😁

@@BowlingScience Thank you for the suggestions. I will give them a try. I do enjoy hooking the whole lane when I am having fun, but I also have fun winning. It gets really tough some times to adjust my hand for the conditions, or to get surfaces right when lanes make a big shift (same patterns, different climate for the location) for example, the house that i won the tournament at 2 weeks ago ( i conditioned the lanes) will not likely bowl the same today for a different tournament. even though the pattern won't change or the time of day when I lay the oil down and the bowling begins. Its also crazy when the balls come back dry when there is plenty of oil left as well.

Welcome Back! Ok question. I have an undrilled Roto Grip UC3. A asymmetrical core with a urethane cover stock. High flaring. I know your not a roto guy, but in your professional opinion woul same lay out as you put on pink hammer work? I am a stroker lower ball speed ( 16) mph. Im really wanting to try this layout. I watch your squatch video, and that lay out 90 x 1 3/4 x 45 is for reactive , asem, balls. Love the video and thanks for your input and look forward to all that you do to help out the bowling world! Thanks.
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 2 жыл бұрын
I would do it at 2.25" as it's a lower flare core than the pink, and surface at 500/1000 trucut. It is a bit long for my liking.
@bowlingxp8345
@bowlingxp8345 2 жыл бұрын
But also be careful, UC3 is not an urethane coverstock. So take care of it. :)

Judging by the shots thrown, it seems this was on a medium oil pattern. Can you confirm? I am curious how this will look on a short oil pattern that is 35' or less where urethane really comes into play because of its strong shape. I like short pin layouts on some balls for sure, especially when you need to maintain tilt longer for people with low tilt or those who are rev dominant (most two handers) but I am curious how jumpy it gets on shorter oil where you really need the ball to lose its tilt and start rolling at 35 feet.

I used it tonight on 39' tungsten in a sweeper. Come game 7, the mids and fronts were toast and I was forced right. The pink came in clutch and seemed to hook even less than I saw in this video. I used the purple games 1 thru 6. For me, purple is a strong ball, so I am happy having something with the same cover that is much easier to get downlane without overreading the dry. It seems good so far, but will definitely throw on shorter soon. I have a 360 grit spy as well for emergencies.

I tried a short pin on the original black widow urethane. It hits GREAT the first game, but instantly becomes literally the worst ball after that one game. Afterwards, I literally had no place to throw it. I tried squaring up, swinging it, 3-step, throwing it faster, everything. Maybe the pearlized urethane would react differently. I’m still drilling my Pink Widow Urethane 4.25” x 5.5” x 2.25”
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 2 жыл бұрын
Thats one game more than i could get mine to hit! Lol. I hated my black urethane widow as well... the cover on this is waaaaaay different than the black urethane. I usually prefer the double cross for bigger flaring urethane personally over a strong pink, but every Bowler has different needs.

@@BowlingScience So, right now I have a 4” x 4” x 5” 2LS (😭 I know, I the betrayal) Purple Hammer and 2 3.25” x 5” x 3” Purple Hammers. I’m getting a Double Cross and a Pink Widow Urethane. I’m hoping the Double Cross will give me a much weaker reaction than the Purples and I’m hoping for a Pink Widow that pushed farther down lane and has more backend. A major reason I’m worried about putting a short pin on my Pink Widow Urethane is because I put a short pin on the Pink Widow and Dark Legend and was not a fan of the ball motion I got. I tried all sorts of surface changes and they were just horrendous. The only short pin I have had major success with in the Zing Hybrid.
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 2 жыл бұрын
The double cross is a stronger purple hammer really... the only way I have found to truly push that "purple hammer cover" is with the 1.25" pin assym layout. I am drilling my double cross next week and comparing to both my purple and my short pin pink. 4 x 5 x 2 up will be on both the double cross and purple. I think it will be an arrow stronger than the purple, which is 1-2 arrows stronger than my Short Pin Pink.
@PapaPorpoise247
@PapaPorpoise247 2 жыл бұрын
@@BowlingScience I originally thought the Double Cross was stronger, but a lot of people have been comparing it to the Black Hammer as having that smoother arcing motion. The three ball review videos I’ve watched (two two-handers and a lefty) have said that it’s roughly 3 boards weaker than their Purple (drilled the same way). Granted, the Black Hammer started up earlier than the Purple Hammer which is “stronger,” but has less backend. I’m still nervous about putting a short pin on my Pink Widow Urethane. Your video does make it very appealing with that 11 board difference.

Last Saturday I found out it takes 3 seconds to hit the head pin from when the moment it leaves my hand and I put 6 inches of tape from center of my grip and out to the right so when my little brother video taped my release it made 13 full circles from release till it hits the head pin and on customs rev rate chart i went to the 3 seconds section and down to the 13 and it was 260 and I throw the ball 15-17 mph but still don't know my tilt and rotation
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience Жыл бұрын
That’s a good way to get an approximate average rev rate and ball speed. That’s about an avg ball speed of 13.6 mph. So you are likely 14.5 ish at release.

So if short pin reactive 'Rolls like urethane hits like reactive' does that mean short pin urethane Rolls like plastic but hits like urethane? are we going to keep progressing to rolls like wood hits like rubber?
@BowlingScience
@BowlingScience 2 жыл бұрын
No, not quite... lol. This particular core cover and combo allows us to use one of the advantages of a strong assym core to match it to the cover better. This isn't to make it roll like plastic, but to offer a great ball down option for high Rev bowlers who use purple hammers on fresh... it also further demonstrates the effectiveness of the layout technique.
