she's writing from the perspective of a fictional psychopathic murderer. she murdered her friends, which made her feel good at the time then feel guilty later (Thought that I'd feel better , But now I got a bellyache). she did terrible things with no reason and no idea why and left with the guilt. and the guilt manifest itself as the cop, which will catch her up to her 1 day.

This is an interesting one because she's describing this adult crime that she committed (murder) while pulling this wagon that's clearly meant for children, jumping around/dancing, and talking about how young she is. I love it. Her videos always intrigue me. You should react to Xanny next. It comes off as such a simple video, yet it has a pretty deep meaning behind it. I think you'd enjoy it!

This definitely is one of her fun songs, not deep. She said it was the very first song that she and Finneas wrote TOGETHER (Ocean Eyes is the first song they made, however Finneas wrote it by himself). It really is just from the perspective of a fictional character who murdered their friends. I appreciate that you guys were overthinking it though, it shows the respect you have for her as an artist. It also added an extra layer of entertainment to the video haha. I recommend you guys react to her song "idontwannabeyouanymore" or "xanny". Definitely 2 of her deeper/lyrical cuts. Both songs have music videos as well. Keep up the good work, love your channel!

Also, I heard her say in an interview somewhere at she based the character on the feeling she got when she was younger and shoplifted something. She just did it on a whim and felt so horrible about it after she had a horrible stomachache.
@knowhere604 жыл бұрын
She was 15 when this was filmed. It's just a goofy song she and Finneas came up with while playing music in their garage. Billie said that it was that first was the first time she realized that one could make up lyrics about imaginary situations and characters. When they were younger, if they misbehaved they would get a bellyache afterwards from the fear of getting caught. This song also shows the new complexity and competency exhibited by Finneas in the production values.

Genius Annotation about “bellyache” In “bellyache,” Billie tells a fictional story about murder from the perspective of a psychopath. The song focuses on themes of guilt, as revealed by Billie in an interview with Vice: "‘Bellyache’ is about the concept of guilt, when you do things in the moment because you feel so strongly about them. In the end you’re left with the decision you made. That line-"I thought that I’d feel better, but now I gotta bellyache"-is about how you kinda know that you’re the worst but you don’t care. It’s about a psychopath who regrets being a psychopath but doesn’t really care."
@nomadine854 жыл бұрын
I think that although Billie herself has downplayed the deeper meaning of the lyrics in the majority of interviews probably because she had decided at the time that this was how she was going to talk about it aka that the most interesting aspect of the creation of this song was that it was the first time her and Finneas wrote a song together while just jamming in the car in the garage, and that it made her realise she can write from other people’s perspectives. But there are a couple of interviews, I think more specifically WITH Finneas nearby as well, in which they discuss the fact that while it may be from another perspective, their songs still communicate a deeper truth or theme through whatever story is being told, and in this instance it’s relatively simple (for Billie’s Standards anyway) and you guys pretty much nailed it. As far as I remember from the more serious and longer answers they’ve given, it’s about guilt and atonement, which is something “we all feel” at any given point in our lives, as well as the upbeat facade and excitement or rush of emotions which catch up with you. I agree with you, the way I wear my noose like a necklace made me think of the whole “bullet meant for you” thing as well - nobody is perfect, and we wear that guilt close to our chest. If not somebody else, our own body will catch up with the guilt. I don’t think this song is super deep or meant to be, but it certainly has an underlying theme and I don’t think you guys were overthinking this at all and agree that with Billie it’s never quite just the face value, even if it’s a concrete story, it’s not that superficial, there’s always going to be a point made in one way or another.

You guys have devoted so many videos to her songs that you may as well change the name of your show to "Metalheads react to Billie Eilish". Even though its usually a HUGE pet peeve of mine when people pause songs/videos during their first viewing, I find your dissection and deliberation to be so charming and endearing. I'm so glad you've developed such a love and intrigue with her and her brothers work.

I reckon the vanity fair 3 years in a row video gives a clue where, in asking what advice she would give her younger self, she said "don't give up your friends, the ones who care about you, for someone or something else" or similar. So she 'killed' some friendships on her way to fame as a difficult lesson, and got a belly ache once her priorities got sorted. The cop in the video represents the moment it all came crashing down. And the flowers? They represent the 'candy' or the thing she gave her friends up for. They are pulled up roots and all though and the plant will die, showing how hollow and temporary that 'candy' was, and how valuable true friendship is as a contrast. Good video fellas, thanks for inspiring me to think.

from all comments here, and also all the reaction videos to her, this one comment is the closest to what i think , and for this video - i appreciate your effort to understand the art behind the storytelling and the visuals. This is NOT as shallow of a song, as Many people think (reading this comments and everything on the internet), it gives pretty good clues, and you have to consider all the factors (music, production, lyrics, music video, and point in the artist career..)

Billie has said in many interviews that her music is interpretive, she wants you to put your own story into her music, and same goes with her videos, she has a meaning for everything (each song has a temperature, numbers, colours, emotions in her mind) (there is a medical name for it but I've forgotten it) everything has a meaning but it's her meaning and she wants you to put you're creative mind into imagining what it could be and even if you got it right she still probably wouldn't tell you. She is Mysterious, and creative beyond bounds and that's why people love her 💜🖤

In this song Bellyache notice the shovel and dirt pile behind her as she sits in the side of the road, If you listen real close, Billie uses the words MINE, MY, MIND, & "I DON'T MIND" (now stay with me... ) You'll hear the D in the very first words cut off Which turns 🎶mind into 🎶mine Then in the 1st chorus she sings 🎶where's my mine?!...🎶 as in... "where's what's owed to me" (typical psychopath phase) Also using a play on the phase "my minds in the gutter", & the phase "windmills of my mind" YES there are wind mills in the background of the video!!! Billie's GENUIS is amazing she's the real deal... the cop at the end does not stand a chance 🔪☠🤪
