The song is about toxic relationships. The drink represents toxicity. She drinks it down and tries to contain it, but it consumes her and leaks out everywhere.

I took the video representation to mean there is always a possibility of a relationship hurting you in the end, but in order to give it a chance at all you have to open up yourself up to that person, despite how difficult that may be.

As a younger person myself, I can guarantee with 100% certainty that we go through emotional turmoil like this *very* often. It's part of why Billie and Fineas's music has struck such a cord with us. They put into music what we can barely put into words, and it resonates with us on a very personal level

Loved this reaction. You guys interpreted the meaning the same way I did after the first time hearing this.. I'm a 47 yo Army vet... And I can relate to her music...she's touching many people she and Finneas probably never imagined. I have purchased everything she and Finneas have ever released because I so profoundly appreciate their art. Btw, Billie recently shared back in October last year during her interview 3 years in a row with vanity fair that she is happier now than she been for years and she intends to stay grateful for her fame and try to stay happy. Such an old soul. Anyway.. Speaking of Sporto.. I mean rambling.. Love you guys ✌️

They said it on awards " we wrote an album about depression, suicide and global warming" Kids of their generation have grown up with social media and are constantly bombarded with every kind of emotion . Finneas and Billie both have suffered depression Their mother taught them when they were younger the way to write songs and get emotion and feelings to come thru. You need to react to Finneas, majorly talented producer and song writer Billie has condition called Synesthesia is a condition in which one sense (for example, hearing) is simultaneously perceived as if by one or more additional senses such as sight. Another form of synesthesia joins objects such as letters, shapes, numbers or people's names with a sensory perception such as smell, color or flavor. So I feel that allows her to really translate the lyrics

Consider the effect this 17-year-old girl had on you with a 3 minute video. Do you really think that you were up for a 5 or six minute dosage? This was my introduction to Billie last year while alone at work watching KZbin videos on my lunch break. I was shaken emotionally by the music, lyrics, symbolism, and her acting. She broke my heart. I knew I needed to check out more by this kid.

She hits my core with her lyrics... my kids have been listening to her for a while and call me a "fake fan girl" because i just started listening to her stuff... mainly becausd of these guys tbh lol. But yeah... her stuff literally makes me relive my entire teen years through her albums... all the ups and downs... the horrible shit i went through and escaped... shit still hurts to this day... but her music makes me feel less alone, because someone else knows what im feeling and can articulate it better than i could ever.

She did a really great interview where she talked about how someone once told her she was faking depression for clout basically and she said she had always struggled with depression and very young kids can. I myself have dealt with it since I was twelve when I didn't even understand it. Poetry helped me cope back then and reading through the old stuff really hits me still. At twelve I had a really surreal and intense awareness of my own existence and smallness in the world. She's a solid 10+ years younger than me but speaks to me on a personal level more than any other artist.

Could've written this myself, all these crazy feelings came on board for me at 12 and I had no idea what it was and didn't discover what depression was 'til I was about 19. I thought I was crazy, I didn't understand how everyone was just living their life every day when nothing mattered. So yeah, definitely plenty to write about if you're young and struggling!

so many thanks to you guys! i'm locked up in my flat (corona, yay!!) and just came across your channel, binged all your billie reactions in one go and could actually forget the insanity in the world right now - so thank you for that, not much can distract me right now it's refreshing to see some metalheads who actually admit to liking other music than metal - also thanks for that. and i enjoy seeing your honest reactions; you seem so genuine and not fake at all like so many other reaction videos. i used to be a metalhead myself, so i'll definitely check out some of your other videos :) i just wanna say, from my early teenage years on (i'm 22 now) i've struggled with depression and anxiety and what i needed at the time was a role model like billie eilish who's open about their own struggles, just to see that i wasn't alone. also, i've been through two toxic relationships by the age of 20 so young people can actually go through stuff like this from a surprisingly young age. funfact about this video: it was all in one shot - no cuts or anything. i imagine it was freaking difficult to film that in one go. if you're interested in other billie music i can recommend all the acoustic versions she did with her brother finneas. they also did a michael jackson cover of "bad" and a phantogram cover of "you don't get me high anymore" enough rambling, thank you very much again, keep it up :)

@@anarchyvixyn Oh, I've seen a few of those. I'm not disputing the meaning, just the comma placement. It doesn't change the overall meaning and anger in the song but it does change the meaning of that particular line. "I've learned to lose (comma) you can't afford to" is more saying I can deal with losing you. It's fine but YOU can't afford to lose me. Which is definitely angry. But "I've learned to lose you (comma) can't afford to." is more, I know you're going to leave because you always do. It's still going to hurt though so just leave already which fits better with the rest, particularly, "let me let you go."

I love how genuine your reaction to this is. If I had been a teenager still when she started making music I can only imagine the impact she would have had on me given the affinity I feel as a 26 year old. My darkest times were 14-17, and the things she brings out in her songs are th best representation of what I think a lot of young people feel and go through that just gets downplayed or dismissed by adults. People go through things at different stages in their lives. When I hear people say the enjoyed their high school years or being a teenager I realize I had a completely different world in my head than they did during those years. Yeah, some very bad things happened in my actual life enduring those years, but also just living in my own head was the darkest it has ever been. I think she scares some people because they don't want to acknowledge this side of young people exists, but she's making society confront it finally. And people can come out happier and better for it. Now as a mom and nurse I appreciate the good times so much more because I know how bad things have felt, and want to help people in their dark times.

You’re not alone, Sporto. 🖤 This hits so close to home for many of us, regardless of age though. This swelling of harbored emotion seems like it’s going to burst through our rib cages and she tapped in to that. Billie and Finneas have been through so much already. In my opinion, the more pain and trauma endured at a young age makes us seem like old souls capable of understanding deep and complex emotion. Because we have to. To survive. We’re taught to embrace, harness, reflect, and understand the hurt causing our depression instead of hiding it, thus transforming it into growth and expression best relayed through art. Now I’m rambling. Much love, boys. Fellow metal head and proud Billie fan. New subscriber.

I'm seeing her live April 10th and this was one of the first songs by her I had heard and immediately made me a fan the video in particular makes me teary eyed due to the acting she has in this video she completley captures the feeling of the song visually in the part shes playing but the arrangement of the song is absolutley beautiful cant wait to hear it live

Possible insite on how deep she can get: HORMONES. Seriously. When you're that age, you feel things so deeply. So hard. Your first love, you love them harder than anything. When you experience loss or sadness, it hurts more than anything. She is just a true artist, who can express that feeling in her music... interested to hear your thoughts?

Ya but she said she had only one date and I think it didn't even turn out to BE a date.....I just find it weird that she has so much to say about relationships and sex (in bad guy) when she hasn't even had a boyfriend

@@lyssagomez6009 I saw an interview of hers from late last year/early this year, I think, where she opened up about an actual pretty long term relationship that she had that was toxic
@88mbmason
@88mbmason 4 жыл бұрын
@@lyssagomez6009 most of her songs are not about relationships though. While her songs could be interpreted that way, for the most part she doesn't indicate they are in interviews she has done. Specific to Bad Guy, my understanding (based on her interviews) is that song is about an image people often portray about being a "bad ass".

I find that we don't remember the exact intensity of the pain and heartbreak in my teens and 20s. 52 now, rough abuse 8 to 16. I just want to scream at these young people that everything changes when you get older. You are in control! You get away from the bullies or the partners or whoever crushed you. It can and does end, if you move forward. Don't let them win! That is my fighting nature. Not to deminish anyones pain, but keep going because it gets better. You guys rock!

I agree that from my perspective at 30 it seems incredible that Billie Eilish at 18 can write something so relatable. However, I remember being 18 & how crucial and devastating every heartache felt, though I couldn’t have put it into such nice words…I definitely felt those feelings back then too.

The line is "I've learned to lose, You can't afford to." I don't know why everyone butchers that part...
@meggsy82

The lyric on genius (verified by Billie) is I've learned to lose you, can't afford to. That's also the way it's broken down when you listen to the album in an app like Amazon Music. The placement of the comma completely changes the meaning of the words. genius.com/Billie-eilish-when-the-partys-over-lyrics

Dare to venture into new territory with Billie to see her capabilities as a truly amazing all-round ARTIST that she really is.. take a little detour on your journey away from her own songs and react to Billie Eilish's rendition of Rob Dickinson's The End Of The World (BBC Radio 1 Piano Sessions) with her super-talented brother Finneas... may or may not evoke as we are, in the end, each drawn by our own feelings...

Hi, very not heavy metal, but if you are curious about Billie's brother, you should check out his music too--- he has an amazingly wonderful voice, and is obviously talented-- you might really like it-- you should check it out sometime. He has various songs here on KZbin-- won't even recommend any particular one, but rather suggest you enjoy checking things out on your own. Enjoy the journey. Thanks for the awesome reactions.

I'm 14, i can promise everyone that younger people go through a lot too, depression and other mental illness seems like it consumes me and all my friends, you can tell by the way they vacantly stare as we all try to float through life, I've been in intensive therapy, have tried countless medications, but now just getting out of bed in the morning is a goal for me, people seem to underestimate younger peoples emotions, but they're there, and very real
