BOX ALARM Working House Fire Freehold, New Jersey 3/4/22

MC - Freehold Boro - 62 Parker Ave. - Box Alarm
Around 2:30 PM Freehold Boro got a call for a possible structure fire with smoke coming from the roof. Only one call on the fire before the Chief arrived on arrival he noticed a smoke condition coming from the roof and struck the BOX alarm for that address. Crews went to work inside looking for the seat of the fire and attacking it with a 1.3/4 hand line brought in the front door. Crews worked on hotspots for about an hour until the fire was placed PWH. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and there were no reported injuries. One person was transported due to being dependent on 02 and could no longer access the air inside the home.

what is the distinction between the different markings on the bunker gear where it says ex chief or ex captain, does it literally mean that they used to be chief or captain or is it smth else

It stands for experimental. Chief or captain in training.

In volunteer departments, typically the line officers are elected annually by the members. They may climb through the ranks and eventually serve as chief; but unlike chiefs in career departments, when their elected term expires, they probably revert to being a regular firefighter. They could volunteer for decades more and may not choose to run again for office. But they will always be an ex-chief. I’ve been one in a smaller department for over 30 years, and never ran again for line officer. But many other guys have served multiple terms as chief.
