Box Elder Maple - Luthier Wood Review - Beautiful Wood

This is a piece of lumber I have always wanted to work with. Got my hands on an awesome slab and this body turned out amazing!!!

Keep it out of the sun. Much UV rays and those beautiful red stripes will just turn brown. Beautiful!.! That looks just like Canary wood. I wonder if they are the same wood? And you might want to think about bow-ties and epoxy for those splits. thanks for all the videos!

Nice ! It's the Black Oak / Live Oak/Scrub Oak of the Maplewood . All 3 are the same Oak wood . Classified as weeds / Scrub . Same as Manzanita . Burns great ! Just a Natural Stain maybe pop the blue . But computers and phones are horrible for color representation . So maybe 😂😂

There’s a box elder tree on my parents property that we were going to cut down this winter and I was going to make a few telecaster style guitars from the wood. Box elder has such beautiful figuring!

I cut 5 of those trees in my garden... Tried a lot of stuff but grow ring separate with age when drying... Lot of cracks also. So in the end I heated my house with it! Still have some plank in the shop that looks more stable. :) Also the beautiful red disappear with age. :(

I don't know if Velvet oil is UV protective but Box Elder is UV sensitive. The red will turn brown if not UV protected.

Question, I have some box elder for a top and planning on red alder for the back. The top will just be tru oil, but was wondering if I should dye the back? Your recommendation of Yellow on Sapele worked out great on my last build so was curious what you would do?

A V style guitar would be great to see, especially with that piece of wood. And just overall, seeing different shapes more frequently would be nice I think. I know you've done a bit of everything before, but you tend to favour Tele's by far.
