What are your thoughts on solo hiking? Anxious, hate it, love it, prefer not to do it but would rather hike solo than not at all? I'd love to know!
@MattWhitingsEurope3 жыл бұрын
I always think of them as totally different hikes. On my own I can spend more time taking photos and video (especially the bits where you have to go back for the camera haha) but more research and planning is needed because there's no one to bounce your ideas or concerns off of. Personally I love solo hiking especially when it's really quiet and you can fully appreciate the environment and nature.

@Matt Whiting's Europe Aaaah interesting as I feel a bit more at ease if it's not really quiet. If I get into trouble, I always think about safety in numbers and someone could help. But 100% agree, I was able to really play around with the camera on this hike and not have to worry about holding others up - that was a huge bonus for me! 🥾🥾

Thanks Amanda. Normally very sceptical of KZbinrs, but your channel is terrific and full of information, including key details of how long certain walks take. This and some of the other National Trust places you covered are now on my definite list when I visit from Aus later this year. Best Wishes for your future travels.

Great video and much more informative than many on the internet. It brought back memories as I lived in Box Hill village during the 1970s & 1980s. As I didn't drive then and worked in Dorking I often used to walk parts of your route on my way to and from work, enjoying the wildlife along the way. Because the only buses from Box Hill went to Leatherhead it was often quicker to walk to work than use public transport, although it was rather hard work coming home in the evenings! Much in your video is relatively unchanged since those days, though it looks much busier now. Weekends were always busy as people made day trips out from London, but during the week I rarely met anyone else while walking on the hill. Keep up the good work.

Hi John, thank you for such a kind comment. What a stunning walk to take time and from work each day. So pleased I was able to take you on a little trip down memory lane with this video!

Thank you ❤️ it's crazy to think how close London is yet we have this pretty scenery so close by!

Cool video, looks like a very pleasant area! That bird of prey at the beginning was intense, it's incredible to see them swoop so fast. Always good to pick a spot for lunch that has a view, so good call with that one. It's hard to believe how close that place is to the big city! From your video it looks like you were in the middle of the countryside!

I'm very fortunate to have the countryside of Surrey, Sussex and Kent not too far from me in South London, it may not be quite as well known as the likes of the Scottish Highlands and Lake District, but it's still very pretty and lovely to walk in - less effort too 🤣 I wish I knew what the bird of prey was. Thank you again for your kind comments 🙏

@@WhenAdventureKnox Definitely a beautiful and lesser known area of the country! Yes I would love to know too, if you find out please let me know. All the best!

Lovely choice of music in this -I’m going to have to check out those stepping stones now :)

Thank you for saying that about the music as I find choosing songs for these videos so tricky so always nice to know when I've managed to pull it off. If you get the chance to visit them, enjoy it 🙏

I wonder how high Box Hill is 🤔 I don't watch many walking videos over 10 minutes long but I watched most of it nice views up there. Nice viaduct.
@WhenAdventureKnox3 жыл бұрын
Google is informing me it is 224m in elevation (The National Trust leaflets didn't inform me). Whilst it obviously has nothing on the likes of Ben Nevis, the route back up that I took was very steep, albeit short. So pleased to hear you watched most of the video - I'm still pretty new to this so hopefully I'm doing something right! 🙏

Thank you for this video of an area that I often visited in the 1950s and 60s, it brought back some lovely memories. I believe that the concrete blocks shown at 7.57 would have been placed in 1940 as "Tank Traps" and would originally have been placed in less orderly groups to hinder the progress of any German invasion force.
@WhenAdventureKnox3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, that's so helpful to know about the Tank Traps. It's fascinating that on a countryside walk, there's still so much history to be stumbled upon. So pleased this video was able to bring back good memories for you

You must’ve been driving with your eyes shut at the bottom of the hill the main one is called Rykas Which is a large car park with two Overflow car parks Plus there is a great cafe.
@WhenAdventureKnox2 жыл бұрын
Ah I know. I was so embarrassed when I got down there on foot and saw how obvious it was. I'd like to blame it on my concentration of driving and keeping an eye on the road to be safe for everyone around me (I'm sure it wasn't this, but it sounds less embarrassing!) 🤣🤦♀️ Good to know about the café for my next visit, thank you for the recommendation.

Box Hill is famous with bikers. You should have rode a 1952 Vincent Black Lightning up there to be fair.
