Nice to see a true professional giving excellent advice by example. He did forget to drop an empty energy drink can into the attic before putting the new vent in place.... Thanks!

Dude, thank you so much for making this. It definitely made this feel like not as big of a job I thought it would be. Home improvement things can be frustrating at times.

Easily the best video I have found on this subject. I just bought a house and we discovered our vents are bad. Why did it take so long to find this video? Everyone please like it so that people like me can find it. Thanks for creating this!!

Dope video. We actually had a pretty bad windy rain storm here in Pittsburgh and it blew mines completely off the lid that’s. The other part is still intact. I would have to replace the lid cover on it. The life of being a new homeowner

I'm suspecting my bathroom vents are letting water in sometimes? They don't leak all the time when it rains, only if its windy from the north and rain s hard at the same time. Have you ever heard of that before? Both bathrooms next to each other have the same issue.

Bath Broan vent have a flap on them that open when the fan is turn on. This helps keep animals out. These could either be damaged and when it rain just the right direction water gets in. The wind could be moving the flap open when just right also allowing rain in. We would start with checking and replacing the flap. Next we would check the flex line going between the fan and the vent. Last we would just replace the whole vent. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Don’t put a bead of caulk because it can potentially dam up, put spots instead so if water gets under the shingle it can run instead of pool. Great
@elultimo1022 жыл бұрын
A bit like a window. Caulk 3 sides, but not the bottom, so any water can run out.

What kind of caulk or tar should I use? I have regular asphalt shingles. Does it matter whether I use tar or silicone? Thanks for the great video!
@DependableConstruction3 жыл бұрын
We would recommend black roofing tar. Just apply a small bead along the edge of each shingle installed, both new and old. If silicone is all you have it will work as well, however will be harder to remove the shingles in the future should you ever have to replace the vent again. Thanks

Is it necessary to add some caulk/sealant under the flashing? I have seen other videos where they add a bead around the bottom. Some say it is not necessary but then others say it is
@DependableConstruction5 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for the comment. While it's not NEEDED it never hurts to add it all the way around the bottom of the vent and then the three sides of the vent on the top that touch shingles. Hope this helps.
@608WIscompton5 жыл бұрын
@@DependableConstruction Thank you! Good to know. Just replaced a vent cover after watching your video as well as we few others. I kind of forgot to put a little sealant on the bottom but I do not think I will have any issues. Thank you for making this video! Made the job much easier to do.

I have a problem with the same type of vent, and the top of the vent is able to be pulled up a little, and is that normal, or should it nail it down. Thank you
@DependableConstruction Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is very normal. On the inside there is roughly a 2"-4" raised cone lip where the air comes out of the roof. The height of the cone will depend on the maker of the vent. This is to prevent water and/or snow from getting in.
@corbinslaymaker33463 жыл бұрын
Also, why didn’t you caulk the vent itself?
@DependableConstruction3 жыл бұрын
The vent is installed correctly. The vent itself doesn't need to be caulked. However, adding caulk to the back and three sides wouldn't hurt.

@@DependableConstruction I love your answer. and if it gets to the wooden roof desks, let it leaks down so at least we know it is leaks. Water should not get to the wood, if it get to the wood, let it leak so we know something is wrong.
@baheegdeek3138 Жыл бұрын
The shingles around the box vent should have been replaced. This is not correct.
@DependableConstruction Жыл бұрын
Yes and no. It would depend on the age of the shingles. 3 years and under on 3 tab they can be removed correctly with a roof prybar. 5 years for dimensional shingles. These shingles were a day old on a display roof.
@twistedcitizen57399 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t put in a nail in the bottom corners. Go up a couple inches and put it under the shingle. If the bottom side needed a nail put in the middle and the caulk over it.
