Thank you for this video. I've got two vents to replace due to squirrel squatters, which caused leakage. I wouldn't have thought this repair would be so simple and cheap. I thought I was going to need to have the whole roof done!! Thank you again!!

hey man, just a few thoughts. I'm a new homeowner who is trying to figure out how to DIY stuff. It's been pretty overwhelming since as the old adage goes, "I don't know what I don't know." Many of the roofing videos I've found on youtube try to quickly give a tutorial on how to do something, but honestly, as someone with ADHD, I like way more details than most, and I still haven't felt comfortable attempting roof repairs after watching these because I have literally never done this before and I feel like too many small things are completely glossed over. All of that to say, I REALLY APPRECIATE how you wear a gopro and literally show the entire process, not a demonstration on a fake roof or a 10 second overview of what needs to happen. You just show the whole thing. Not only that, you give tips and advice that I write down on a sheet of paper so I can refer to it later before I do something as seemingly crazy feeling as cutting a hole in my roof. So just wanted to say I appreciate your contributions to the people of the internet, and I wish you well.

I would’ve put tar/caulking underneath the vent as well incase water gets underneath, but good job one of the few youtubers that knows what he’s actually doing
@stixprogaming27188 ай бұрын
You actually don't need tar , tar can actually trap water after it expands and cause a leak

On a roof years ago I found someone had flipped over an old gallon paint can, cut a hole in the side and caulked it to the shingles. That was their vent! Stupidest thing I've seen. Wish I had a photo of it but those were pre-cell phone days.

I had one of these just replaced. Looking up from the attic I can see some overlap of the vent edge over the original opening. Like it wasn't aligned perfectly. Is that ok?

Do Zach of all trades 1 square roofing challenge
@incognitonunyabuisness51924 жыл бұрын
Just food for thought here...commenting on other contractor KZbin pages and participating in an online challenge will advertise your channel even if the KZbin algorithm isn’t helping you.
@GrandRoofingInc4 жыл бұрын
I do try to comment on other channel pages yes, but not sure what you're talking about with online challenges? I appreciate any tips thank you!
@incognitonunyabuisness51924 жыл бұрын
Grand Roofing Inc. right on, I guess what I specifically mean with the online challenge is Zach of all trades has a 1 square roofing challenge where other contractors post their videos and time their run and compete against him in friendly competition thus creating buzz. His channel was named worlds fastest shingler (provocative name). KZbin’s roofing community (who probably are the ones searching and looking these types of videos up) seems to enjoy it.

Are not all roofing hatchets magnetic? The one you listed is $70, while others are $30ish (Stanley, Vaughan)
@GrandRoofingInc Жыл бұрын
This one has a very strong neodymium magnet embedded in the center of the head. Some others have a magnet on the top part for just getting the nails started.

Your ladder is to steep ratio should be 4:1...and is not extended above roof edge 3'. Good job tieing ladder off!
@ResearchNational3 жыл бұрын
I never extend my ladder 3' above and everyone has their own comfortability with ladders. You have to do what works for you not what OSHA says is ideal. I like my ladder 1 ft. Above gutter but no more.
@davidlysohirka7983 жыл бұрын
@@ResearchNational its nice to do whats comfortable ! Here in B.C , Worksafe is pretty tough on contractors. You choose not follow there rules, then be prepared to open up your wallet. Fines are not cheap and double everytime you are caught with the same infraction. I heard of a company on the coast that was fined $15,000 one day, $30,000 the next for not wearing harness when required! Brutal!
@baheegdeek31382 жыл бұрын
Those shingles should all have been replaced. This is not the proper way. But if the customer is cheap I guess that's what they paid for.
