Following on from yesterday's video, I've decided to make a couple of little coin pouches using the remnants of boxed corners from our previous boxy bag. My aim is to drastically minimise the amount of fabric thrown out, and even to make a few dollars out of it.
Here's the bag that the boxed corners were cut out from. • How to sew a large tra...

I'm Sewing to Sell for a craft fair that takes place a week before Mother's Day, and I think this is a terrific project not only for that, but if I have other offcuts and scraps from quilting, these little pouches could be great for small kids to use for their money or other little items that are treasures! I think any bag with a matching accessory really adds to the value and uniqueness of it. I'm hoping the folks in charge of this craft fair actually do a better job of advertising it. My friends let me come and be a part of their booth before Christmas, and I didn't sell a thing. I didn't have a lot of lead time, but only about twelve people went by our booth anyway. I'm not exaggerating! Still, it was good practice for setting up a display by thinking out of the box on how to do that without buying actual, expensive display items. This isn't something I do to pay the electric bill, but more of a 'OH - I have a free space and I'll keep myself busy during rainy weather' and any extra money is a good thing' experiment. I'm sure I'll have items that didn't sell, so I'll just put them on FB market place. Summer is around the corner, and in nice weather, I'm in the garden, on a horse, and keeping up with other outdoor things, not sitting inside. Summer in NY state is way too short! Thank you Christine for saving fabric, teaching us how to do wonderful projects, and being an all-around super-duper person!

Markets and craft fairs can be very hit and miss at times, then others are brilliant. They're so unpredictable. I used to do quite a few expos, but rarely get the time now. It's a great wat to get out and meet people too🙂

Excellent little project for the off-cut corners and zipper ends. I've been saving them even thought I didn't know what I was saving them for. Now I do :-) and I'm glad I did. I've been adding key lanyards to all the bags that I have made so little pouches clipped to the lanyards can be found easily in a larger bag. The lanyards are attached at the inside at the zipper opening end so the bag doesn't have to be opened up very much to get to the lanyard and pouches and/or keys. I am always thinking of security and safety. I don't sell the bags but the additional supplies would have to be costed out. I'll be making little off-cut pouches today. Thank you for the idea.

❤❤❤❤ Thank you for your creativity and sharing. It has been bothering me what to do with the corners. I save them, because I knew there had to be something I could do with them. I had been waiting for every creator to comment about this after they chopped them off, but no one has until you. Practicality and little waste as possible is important to me. And these can be added with the bag as a matching accessory. Thank you 🙏

Those are so cute! 😊 I frequently use those sizes, or save them for other projects. I almost always have a short strap inside my totes with an O-ring, sometimes a D-ring on the outside for light weight items. Those bags are so cute. I would have had a problem tossing them with the stabilizer on it, and lining pieces as well. Great idea 😊❤

So as it’s small I don’t need much fabric so plenty of scraps to practise on. The best start for me today is that i have FINALY got the knack of the Zip on the roll.🎉🎉. @@cherieemmons6833 Yeah. I figure it won’t work with fleece or anything thicker. But at the zipper part an extra strip could be used to keep that part functional. And it would be a stripe design. Depends on the fabric though.

What needle are you using. I’m using a 14/90 which I was told is a fairly heavy weight needle and the zipper is breaking them. Also any tips on going back and forward over the zipper to reinforce? My machine will simply not pull that much bulk. I have an Elna 680+. I can try a walking foot but I don’t think it will get near enough to the zipper edge
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 17 күн бұрын
Susan, for this one I would have used the same size needle. I don't have any problem sewing over No.3 (dress zips), and it's usually ok with the No.5 zippers. I did find that when I had computerised machines, they often caused problems when sewing over the zipper tape. I would turn the handwheel by hand going over the zipper, or use a mechanical machine.😀

When I make boxed corners the other way, where you end up cutting off a triangular piece (is there a name for that method?), I've been using the triangle as a bookmark. They sit nicely on the corner of a page, but they do slip off too easily. The next time you're lying in bed trying to sleep, but your brain won't stop sewing😂, could you devise a way to make those triangles grip the page better? Thanks in advance, Christine's Brain!🌺
