I have owned four boxers over the last 18 years. Reasons 1 - 4 were never as bad as he says. Its all about how you train them. They adjust to your lifestyle very easily. Patience and firmness are the keys. Don't let this guy dissuade you from getting a boxer. Best dogs ever.

I agree! Mine were not difficult at all! Different? For sure! My female was quiet, hardly barked, lazy, liked laying around! Never even pulled on a leash, never was aggressive. My boy, different story! Big and beautiful as heck! But, more aggressive, had to ‘ sit ‘ on him once in awhile!! Smart, strong, loyal and perfect looking ! Got lots of attention from people! But, he had to be watched, he was very protective!

I agree, I hv owned 2 in 20 yrs and they r truly the perfect breed, both Athena and Buster adapted to my lifestyle! And mannerisms. So obedient all I had to do was raise my voice and they would snap back to full attention to me, almost like teenagers. Their energy levels were high but quickly adapted to my routine.

Boxers are an amazing breed. I got my first boxer pup in my early 20’s and was able to train him and exercise daily. He eventually became the ultimate family dog and is sorely missed. Since then, I’ve rescued two older boxers and they don’t require as much exercise and attention as younger pups. They’ve adapted well to family life without all the maintenance. I highly recommend a boxer rescue, especially if you don’t have the time and energy to commit to a pup.

Their loyalty and loving nature and the pure joy they bring make every morning a joy to come downstairs to their greeting . I can live with drool. I can drive and have my buddy with me rather than fly.. and they trusted I would come home from work and never destroyed anything. They just want to please and be loved.

I had my first boxer as a puppy. He never had separation anxiety (I didnt know they were prone to it). We'd come home and he'd be laying on the carpet chill as could be, and as soon as he saw us he'd leap up and give us a happy wigglebutt welcome. He died at 10.5 yrs old from cancer (mass cell tumor). My second boxer I got when she was 5, she had some separation anxiety (possibly). If we left and she was left out of her crate, she would pull random things down from the counter, sometimes the trash (but wouldn't eat them). If she was in her crate, she was fine. She died a few months after her 9th birthday from lymphoma. Boxers are very very likely to get cancer so it's imperative that you get any weird symptoms or strange lumps looked at immediately. I love my Biscuit and Duchess to pieces 💕 Lemme just add that both dogs had cancer more than once. Biscuit had a growth taken off his ear, then his side, and then his last bump is what killed him. Duchess came to us with a few different bumps (some blood pockets and one was a mass cell tumor just starting on her tummy) and then the lymphoma we didnt catch until her lymph nodes in her neck began to swell. So you really really have to watch. I wish your pups good health 💕

Despite the title of this video, it is clear the presenter loves and appreciates boxers. He is pretty much “spot on” with his comments, although individual boxers may vary in how much of each behavior they exhibit. Our family has had boxers for three generations and would not even consider another breed. I got a chuckle out of the comments about being a guard dog. When the door bell would ring, our dogs would bark and rush to the door drooling all the way. A delivery person would cringe, immediately back away from the door and ask, “...does it bite?? My response was always, “Yes, she is very dangerous and if she gets loose, she could lick you to death.” LOVE THE BOXER!

We are on our 4th boxer and they are the absolute best dog. He's our very first one that we got as a puppy as the other three were rescues and were already over a year old. I fully agree with everything you said, too many people get boxers as puppies thinking they're so adorable not realizing the amount of work and attention they require. It's been amazing watching him learn and grow from a tiny tot to almost a year old. He is extremely intelligent and loves to be with his kids. He loves to play with everyone, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He loves his daily runs on the bayou with his daddy and chasing squirrels in his backyard. For as long as I live I will never own another breed!

Sorry for my bad english, it’s not my first language. You’re so right. I had a boxer dog a long time ago, when I was a child. My mother took care about him, when I was at school. It was the best time of the day, when I went around the corner to my house and my Mum sent him out on the street to welcome me. I can’t describe that feeling. My parents made a decision to sent me to a farm for holidays. To ride horses and so on… After a few days I decided to go home, because I missed my friend too much. When my parents arrived with the car to take me home and I ran to it to hug my best friend he was totally pissed and turned his back to me during the complete way home. I was so sad about that and I never never went to a holiday without him again. Because of my work I was forced to live without a dog. Now, I‘m glad to do my work from my home and the next thing to do is to search a new friend, a Boxer dog. I need and love the energy, the stubborn behavior and the unique love they give. Thank you for your video 🐶

Spot on! Excellent video. Don't forget snoring, dysplasia, ligament damage..... I even tried a "mutt" Boxer. 75% Boxer, 12.5% Amstaff and 12.5% Italian Greyhound. Acted 100% Boxer. Part dog, deer and cat. Didn't drool, but foamed at the mouth on walks with new smells and excitement. It was kind of embarrassing. Separation anxiety....OMG!! She literally ripped a cage to shreds shorty after we got her. Couldn't stand not being with her people. Finally got her to the point where I was only repainting a door once a year. This really never went away. One time I ran out for an hour. I left the pantry open. Came back and everything in there was piled up in the family room. Not torn apart...just her way of saying "don't leave me". I rarely did. Permanent bed in my SUV. I've always worked from home. She ran every errand with me. We're avid boaters. Water dog was a must. Doesn't usually go with Boxers. Family members have Labs that showed her the ropes (see what I did there). She absolutely loved swimming! Never did catch on to the ball and retrieve thingy. Unfortunately had every single Boxer ailment we were trying to avoid. Tore her ACL when she was 3. In the last 18 months had mass cell tumors removed (ones we could feel and test). Hundreds of stitches. Four eye procedures for "Boxer" ulcers. Lost her to the cancer a couple months ago. Just made it to 10 years old. Best damn dog 🐕 we ever could have hoped for! We've just started looking for a replacement. Apparently shelters are empty because of the pandemic. I hope all those animals (and owners) keep their homes. Doggysitting friend's two Boxers right now. Maybe to see if we're ready!?!? Not yet. All we do is compare them to ours. Sorry for rambling. Best breed ever! Make sure they're the right breed for you though. These are not cheap dogs to maintain! They need the time and work put into them. If you do....it's the most rewarding experience ever!

Hmmm....I think someone forgot to tell my boxer and my boyfriend's boxer's that they're supposed to be like this. Maybe we just got the exceptions to the normal rule 😅. Ours are surprisingly lazy and they don't usually drool unless we have pizza or hot dogs nearby. The one female boxer is actually so picky with food and what activities she'll do that she'll actually walk away if she doesn't want to eat or do something. It's crazy how different each dog can be despite being the same breed.

So, I've never had a boxer before. Recently, the animal shelter called and they have a male boxer mix, ( not sure w what though), maybe 1-2 years old. I work about 5 days a week, hours vary. My husband currently m-f, day shift, home by afternoon. 17 Year old son at home all day. Husband home every weekend. We're older so our energy level isn't as much as it used to be. LoL. But..... I've met and walked with the boxer mix the shelter has. My heart goes out to this sweet boy! I've been looking for another dog, since our beagle/lab/blue tic mix passed away a couple years ago. We miss him tremendously! But I'm ready to have another puppy. Now, we'd prefer to have one that is still a puppy puppy. But... This poor guy is just waiting to have a home and people to love him! I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I should go through with bringing him home, or let someone else who has the same energy level and time, as I'm leaning it takes. Big decision! Any suggestions or thoughts, would be greatly appreciated!

As someone who's had boxers in his life since the age of 5 I have to say spot on! I've said for a while that anyone getting a boxer as their first dog is like someone passing their driving test and going out to buy a Ferrari! Like a Ferrari a boxer is a powerful beast, difficult to handle, prone to embarrassing you in tricky situations and usually eye-wateringly expensive to run. I'm sure vets look on boxers as guaranteeing they'll be able to afford an annual skiing holiday for the next 10 years or so. There's another danger of course: Boxers are also addictive - once you've had one you can never have anything else. You're doomed to drool for eternity... Thanks for the video. Great work!

What is wrong with people? Will doesn't hate boxers or any other breed and made this video to bash on them. It could just be my boxer but here's my opinion ion based on all of these points. 1. My boxer, Ali is extremely lazy and will lay around all day if he wanted to. He does get the zoomies like other dogs but often times he is curled up on the step soaking in the sun. 2. I wouldn't say drool it too much of a problem. He only drools if there is good, after he eats or drinks, and when he gets extremely excited. 3. I got my dog when he was two years old, so I did not train him from a puppy. He is extremely intelligent and easily trainable. I personally don't see that as a con since I have plenty of toys to stimulate his brain. 4. Piggy backing of the third point, the main thing about him being so smart is that he is an escape artist with separation anxiety. It is often very hard to leave him alone because of the fear of him escaping his cage. I have to give him CBD treats, plenty of exercise, and lock him in his cage with carabiner clips. Even with those, he tends to get out so I had to buy a new, more sturdy crate for him. I will edit this when I get it. (Also I think the main reason he has separation anxiety is because he was left alone a lot in his old house.) 5. I can't really give my opinion on this point since my dog is healthy, but I have heard (not personally) of some boxers having different health problems. If you plan on getting or have a boxer, please look up different health risks and ways to prevent them to keep your baby healthy.

Boxers are amazing dogs! My guy is the sweetest and loves his family so much! He does have a lot of energy! And he also had a large tumor grow around 5 months, which I didn’t realize was an issue with this breed. He doesn’t drool unless he was just drinking. I think they are amazing dogs for families with older children probably 8+. They are very easy to train but can get into trouble if left unsupervised, especially if under a year. My boxer also has chronic allergies that make his ears red and he is also very allergic to bees. He has the sweetest temperament with people and loves to play with other dogs.

Depending on their breeding and conformation, if their lips are long they can drool a bit in hot weather. I’ve had 5 boxers and none of them drooled very much, some not at all.

@@maxineboxer9714You mean their ' jowls'??😁😁. Anyway, when we got our last Boxer ( which has been quite a few years ago now!) The breeder we got him from said they were ( or should be) trying to breed that out of them. So they wouldn't have all that drooling problem!
@maxineboxer97143 жыл бұрын
@@Melinda8162 Yes, I should have said jowls. That’s what I thought, that they were trying to change that. I’ve had 5 over the years and have noticed the difference. Wonderful dogs.

Love your channel(s) Will. I couldn’t comment on your video Boxer v GSD playoff bracket (Boxer eliminated in a sweep). I agreed with you on all of the rounds except round one. For people like us who can devote time, your right, but most people can’t. I’ve never seen a Boxer turn aggressive from boredom. I’ve seen them turn into behavioral nightmares but not aggressive. I have seen GSD’s turn aggressive due to boredom. It probably has something to due with how the GSD is more intelligent and feels it should be doing something as to where the Boxer is more like “no one is here to say no so....party?” Either way your right the GSD wins but I had to throw this out there due to the sweep. Keep doing what your doing Will! Your great.

I currently have a boxer that I rescued. She had been been abused for over 2 years. She is protective of me, doesn't like men, does have anxiety when I'm gone but my vet told me this is common for a dog with PTSD not because of her breed (I did ask because I had people try to convince not to get her because of she's a boxer). Billie is a GREAT dog and we are working on her fears. I can't believe much of what he says. Maybe Billie is different because of her PTSD? either way I know others who have boxers and they're damn good dogs!

I've had boxers since I was six and am in my sixties now. They are extremely high-energy dogs. I live in the American South so it gets hot. My dogs did their exercising in the morning and after sunset (running around the yard). They would also get highly energetic and want to play during the day inside. There was always someone home to play with them - inside. But still they all loved tearing stuff up. That's why it's important to get them their own toys especially ones that make noise and to keep any article of clothing or shoes out of their reach (which is possible with some thought). This is especially true when they are puppies. As for drooling, there is some, but it's either a matter of I became used to it or they didn't drool that much. Bulldogs drool much more. They try to become dominant over members of the family if you aren't careful at an age of 1 to 2 years. This is easily put right by proving you are the alpha. A good bonk on the nose (by which I mean a tap) to let them know you aren't afraid of them and that you can do it to them shows who is boss. This happens even if you have trained them at an earlier age. It doesn't take more than a day or two of a bonk on the nose with it occurring two or three times to set things right. As for health problems, cancer is a real scourge. The dogs I've had have lived from 8 to 13 years. It's a very sad day when they die. And then it's off to find a new boxer.

Any issues with small dog aggression? Our female boxers when I was a child used to try to kill our tiny female dogs if they yelped, one got mad, or even seemingly with nothing to set it off - it's the main reason I'm hesitant to get one today I don't recall the same with our males outside of one who was aggressive towards in tact males My parents didn't do a great job of training and keeping an eye on so I wondered if that was the problem or if it's the breed

We've had 6 boxers in our family, and I still think this is a good topic for a video--you want a good fit. Regarding #1, our last boxer was with my octogenarian mother. Now, she was very diligent about walking him regularly, but otherwise he just hung out with her during the day. When I visited, I would also take him to the dog park, which he absolutely loved, and which gave him a good opportunity to run around safely. He was a big boy, almost 100 pounds, the biggest of our six. So if you think you can provide this much exercise to a boxer, I wouldn't worry too much about his/her energy level.

I have a boxer/pug mix. She's such a hype dog, she would literally run until she'd pass out. Especially dangerous in the summer. She wouldn't realize that it's too much/hot for her. When I wake up, she's always right beside me, resting her head on my other pillow looking at me 💕 Even if she's half asleep she'll follow me to the toilet and wait for me 🥰

As a long time boxer breeder two corrections to the video- Boxers shouldn't drool. A boxer with good jaw confirmation won't drool any more than any other dog. And they can be dog aggressive. Fantastic with people, but some boxers do not play well with dogs from outside the pack.

I really want a boxer but I work a full time job. I got my first boxer when I was 12 and I trained him to go off leash in a field and on our lawn in just 3 weeks at the age of 15 weeks. I work a full time job and I am going to give him 1 hour of field exercise in the morning and 1-2 hours when I come home. I will also be paying a neighbourhood kid to walk my dog around the block and play with him in my backyard for a bit. Do you think my dog will be ok.
@shanamchenry58773 жыл бұрын
Yes! Just be careful of separation anxiety and how intense exercise time is. Too intense of exercise can lead to over heating but not enough can lead to the dog still having energy to burn. It sounds like your possible boxer companion would get their energy burned out properly as long as the dog is trained. Some boxer's won't do well with strangers so it might help to have the neighbor kid around during training sessions to help the dog become more familiar with them. The earlier training starts, the better! Separation anxiety can be aided with a good trainer and patience. It is not necessarily something that will go away, but it can become something the dog will tolerate for short periods of time. That was actually the hardest section for my boxer to pass on her canine good citizen test but with a good trainer and patience she eventually became a little less anxious and was able to pass her test.

If more people researched the breed, we would have half the number of boxers in the boxer rescue I work with. You hit on the many reasons why people surrender their boxer to a rescue. We go to great lengths to educate the public at large and potential pet parents about the boxer breed. Thank you for addressing the issues!

I wouldn’t say boxers are high energy, I would say they give you the energy you give them. If there’s kids running around the house or you’re speaking to them in an excited tone and amping them up, it will reflect in their behavior. If everything was mellow all day, they’re content with being couch potatoes. Most zoomies they’ll run out during potty breaks. The best thing for a boxer is a buddy, they love having another 4 legged companion. With being so intelligent they can be super easy to train especially if there is an older dog in the home to emulate. The drooling issue is weird, some have it and some don’t. I’ve got 2 that never drool and one that has to have his face wiped down after every meal. If you want a family dog, it’s hard to beat a boxer, they’re loving and loyal to a fault.

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with you. Boxers are the best dogs I’ve ever known. I got a boxer from the boxer rescue. She was used as a breeder dog and was most likely abused. She now has a happy life and while she can be a bit clingy, is still an amazing family dog. My grandparents also got a boxer from the rescue and he was so gentle and kind. Boxers are very protective and loyal. They will do anything to protect their owners.
