@@a7128 I won’t lie, it is a LOT of work. More than I ever expected. They don’t do well being left alone. One ate my wall. Yes. My wall. They took months to house train. I’ve had dogs my entire life and have never had trouble house training. Our oldest is nearly a year old and the younger is six months. The older one took longer. He’s a neutered male and he’s big. He needs to go out about every three hours during the day, and once in the middle of the night. I’ve noticed they drink way more water than the average dog. I would strongly suggest not having only one dog if you work. They honestly get extreme anxiety being left alone. Keep lots of chew toys. This all being said, I absolutely adore them. My male is laying on me as I write. He loves for my adult daughter to hold him over her shoulder like a baby. It’s hard to put into words but there’s just something about their personality that you fall in love with. They want to share your life in a special way. Squirt bottles are my best friend for discipline, and discipline is extremely important. They’ll take the dominant role if you don’t. I have to submit my female occasionally because she’s the alpha. They are so hilarious. They’re the biggest clowns I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend buying bully bones. They’re expensive but they’re a lifesaver. Good luck and keep a sense of humor until you get them trained!

@@sherrimiller5258 thank you dearly! I had a ShihTzu for 16 years when I was single, and never experienced what we are going through now. It only took about 3 weeks to house train him, and he didn't need much supervision at all. Married now and we have a 4 month old boxer who loves to play, has energy like the Energizer, is mouthy, uses the bathroom consistently on and off the Puppy Pad, sometimes right in my face as I am trying to get him to go outside. No matter how many times I say out of the kitchen, or no, or out, he walks through the kitchen as though my words do not matter, however when I say eat he knows what that means. My husband does not mind him jumping on him, but I am training him not to jump on me or others. He loves our shoes and will consistently go in our closet, to get one even if he has to climb over something to reach the ones I just took off. He has over 10 tpys, some to help his teeth, but plays with them for about 10 minutes and back to going in the trash or looking for shoes or antagonizing the broom, or taking the sole out of my husband's old shoes, or biting the sofa, or chewing his puppy pad, etc. I cannot cook or clean unless he is in his crate.... my eyes must be on him at all times!!!! Gonna look into a squirt bottle (*_*) When out in public he starts wagging his tail before they even notice him... and sometimes all over the place. I love him dearly, however I need some energy supplements or an energizer smoothie to keep up with this busy boy. ♡

We walk our boxer twice a day 6AM and 4:30PM. He knows when. But he will still pull on the leash - he is a 5 year old rescue. He just started not pulling with a regular leash. At times, i felt he acted better off the leash then on. But it took us a year and he gets it now. Boxers are great dogs as long as you can keep up.

I think the Boxers just the most elegant looking bulldog/mastiff type there is. By definition it's actually a mastiff, I'll be at a small one still the most elegant one but it still qualifies as bulldog too and most definitely the most elegant one. They have what I call the 3 I's, Instinct, Intuition and Intelligence. That pretty much makes them omniscient in my mind. They can know something is happening from far away and around the corner of a building while playing Well actually we were sparring, playboxing, okay, we were slap-boxing, seeing who could land a face blow without it getting blocked and she was good at it too! My father was a champion and he taught me how to box but I gave it my all and started out boxing him! My dog was better than that. She could collect me good enough I'd see stars. But here we are playing and having fun and running around circling each other like some kind of Indian fight you see in a cowboy movie sometimes, and then would come at each other again with the boxing. I thought she had lost her concentration for a second and I was making a decision on whether to take a cheap shot or not and she turned around and looked at me all of a sudden as if to say, "scuse me, back in a sec" and then, zoom, she was off; she scratched up dirt clods, she took off so fast. She heard somebody shouting at my 2 wk live in dog sitter because she was aware K had come (for her pay) and I wasn't. K hadn't made it to my front door yet, But of course, we were around the corner of the building and would not have known that the door bell was ringing, although Baby probably would have told me. After all, she knew trouble was coming towards Keisha and went to head it off at the pass. She did, She escalated as the guy escalated, She advanced three times Meanwhile I was trying to talk the guy down by telling him he needed to speak in a softer voice because you can see I don't have a collar or a leash on her and she is getting upset for my yelling now, Suffice it to say, I said a lot of BS, to make that guy in certain, I even told him if this unpredictable dog goes over to you and you take a knife to her, I'd kill him three ways before he even hit the ground, which he had to know was BS but when a white chick talks of black guy that calmly and that confidently and nearly quietly because I got the dog settled down I was in complete control all the time Baby was not unpredictable. Anyway it kind of had the guy confused... talked it all down to casual stuff, turns out He was upset about something else and he was telling her about it in a very emotional way and it was very loud shouting because he was so far away. Anyway baby save the day but she was in complete controller herself When I picked her up off the street, she was six months old, the vet said. She was so skittish she wouldn't come to me and had bolted and was halfway down the block a couple of times when I slowly reached my hand out to her. Something in my head just told me to YIPE, YIPE YIPE real loud, and wait till she turned around and fall down on the ground and whine. So I did. She came over and sniff me and lick my face She examined my whole body to see what was wrong and she tried to revive me. And then she stood over me eventually stumbling over me enough to face the four winds She even ground and barked at some noise or Something she thought was coming to get me. She adopted me that day and protected me everday since...til she died at 10yrs.We just bonded, I shared food with the rat on my mouth and from my hand. I never picked her up of the floor because I didn't want around my furniture ,I spent time on the floor with her bonding. . . She always wanted up in my lap anyway though. But never when I was on the floor though.

She walked in front of him with leash sag, and then would drop back and walk on my nephews side as well. I was able to spend a lot of time with her, bc I'm an amputee and she learned a lot on her own, by just being around me.

You've posted this a year ago, if your still having problems I can help. I'm a 13 yr old and I like to train dogs, so what you need to do is get a leash, not a flexi leash where your dogs can go wherever they want, you need a leash. Tie the leash around the top of their neck or get a special collar that stays at the top of their neck cause you have a lot more control that way and you'll feel a difference right a way. You should also have certain words you say like when you want him to go free in a field (you can get special leashes that are like 25 feet long just make sure they are not flexi leashes just a normal leash) you can say "go free" or "play" or "Run" or anything you want. It also takes a lot of patience and with some dogs it takes weeks of learning, you just gotta make sure that it's an every day thing. Another thing is to invest in a treadmill so you can tire him a little bit before the actual walk because, dogs tend to listen more when they're tired, they are a lot more malleable when they are tired. You mentioned that he lags behind you, you always want your dog behind you or right next to you, never in front. That's why I said you should have words to say when he can go free in a field with you still in control. If you need more tips just ask, it's no problem.

Tom I have another question lol.... Aren't harnesses better for young, boisterous, pully, excitable dogs than collars particularly collars that can cause tightening and added pressure to sensitive areas when beginning training?? Why use collars that we know cause discomfort? Surely this methodology is +P? Which we know doesn't work as well as +R? Can you explain your reasoning behind this method? Once again I'm not berating any of your methods, I don't want to argue but I do want to learn to be a better trainer.

I don't have a boxer but I figured you'd answer from a more recent video if you even will. I just got a Chihuahua mix puppy and all she does all day is try to sleep and hides in her crate. I take her out to pee and she did great the first day but now that it's a little colder (I put clothes on her & she did go eventually but it took hours of me coming back out repeatedly after like 30 mins of waiting outside then going in for an hour and back out.) She has only peed once today early in the morning and she also only wants to eat once, I know she is scared should I just leave her alone for a couple days or is their things I can do to help her? (I've had her for a day.)

What do you do with a dog that bounces off the end of the leash HUNDREDS of times and still doesn't look at/engage with the handler? This is a rescue that wouldn't give eye contact for weeks when I first got her and was clearly left on her own for at least the first 12-18 months of her life so is used to going and doing exactly what she wants, when she wants. The rest of her training has gone well, in the house she's now the perfect dog and interacts with me really well. But after 12 months, although she now walks without pulling, engagement with me on a leash has hardly changed at all. She's scent driven and I live on the edge of the bush, once we leave the property, I don't exist, even if I have her favourite food or squeaky toy.

If you work with a collar that has plastic spikes digging into her skin and throat, I wouldn’t say she has respect for you, like you stated. She’s just careful to not feel discomfort/pain, that’s why she started to check where you’re going. Would be better if you’ve shown such effect with accessories that don’t create discomfort and really try to bond with the dog.
