The jab to the body is also good to mix things up, very useful to set up a cross to the chin.

That's why I always let that jab come in and the you can throw your straight right downwards or an uppercut with any hand. At least It is how I see the sequence.

Fantastic video. I knew a lot of these jabs, but haven't practiced them enough. Seeing this inspires me to go back and practice some more. Also, another fun jab is to change levels and go for the body. It's hard to figure out and a great set up for combos.

Tru. I took martial arts when I was younger but dabble in rudimentary boxing at home with my bag and gloves. What I practiced earlier in my life was something similar to the spear jab but with back-hands. It's VERY quick and easy to throw. I know back-hands are illegal in boxing, but wasn't sure how to incorporate a similar movement in boxing, but this video actually showed me how to do that. Nice unexpected gift! The spear jab is from wing chun. Bruce lee installed it in his JKD style. I never heard of the name spear jab but it definitely does work a lot, I use the wing chun jab as a traditional boxing jab(most of the time) It’s a lot faster and stronger. Grab a friend and put him or her against a wall. Have them lock their arm out with your palm down(traditional boxing style) and tell the person push your fist back as hard as possible, your elbow will push out because of the shoulder position, now try it down your elbow pointing down and thumb up. Lock your elbow and tell the person to push against your fist. It locks no matter the size of the person. That’s why Bruce lee installed it in his style.

I hate when trainers give extra slap from the mit into the glove, it gives you a false sense of speed and power and in a fight you’ll notice a LOSS of speed. “Why isn’t my opponent slapping his head into my punch” ... garbage.... always train like an actual fight. I like your insight a lot and Eddie is a very good fighter but his technique sucks. His stance is too square in these videos, he's on his heels and when he throws the jab he flares the elbow way too much, and that's not really what you want to show to people learning boxing. If I may add something to the "power jab" that comes off the left side. In some parts of the world it's taught with a pivot of the lead foot just like you would do when throwing your hook, that way you get more of a stopping power.
