It had nothing to do with the weight. He faced some seasoned fighters. Trinidad was struggling to make weight when he was welterweight, often having to drop twenty pounds. His body dictated that he had to move up. He may have possibly been able to still make 154 pounds comfortably, but he felt good at 160 pounds. I believe that he would have done really well with a trainer like Emmanuel Stewart. I believe Tito still had a lot of good fights left in him. However, his father felt that he had taken him as far as he was able, and decide to bow out. Due to his strong sense of family loyalty, Tick bowed out too Nevertheless, he was one of my all time favorite fighters; an entertaining, and true champion.. As far as Don King was concerned, the Trinidad's were taking legal proceedings against King for the way that he was managing Felix's career. At one point he hadn't fought in almost a year. Early in his career,Trinidad fought only on the Showtime network. It wasn't until the Trinidads left Don King, and workednout an agreement, that they were able to secure a lucrative deal to fight on HBO. As a result, Trinidad was given more exposure to fight fans, deservedly so, and ultimately signed a multi million dollar deal with Oscar Dr La Hoya. Kudos to Oscar too, for pushing that fight, which may not have ever happened otherwise. Dr La Boy's promoter, Bob Arum, and Don M NY did not get along. If you'll notice, after Trinidad moved to HBO, Don King, whose promotion was on Showtime, was barred from giving any post fight commentary. Incidentally, Julio Cesar Chavez, warned Trinidad not to spend his entire career fighting for Don King. Just some fun facts. Check it Out! Ciao!!!

Pendleton took a shot to the body in two rounds prior that staggered him for a moment and then received more punishment the next round with 4 very hard placed body shots to the same section. Im assuming dude was hurt and while trying to catch his breath and recover in his corner between rounds, he may have felt something was off. Trinidad was clearly taking over by the end of rounds 3, & 4, and Round 5 was all Trinidad. Seems to me like it was less of a dive and more like Pendleton was hurt earlier in the fight but by round 5 really started feeling the effects of those body punches (not to mention how many of them are low.) It probably really sinked home after Trinidad landed some body blows earlier in round 5 and Pendleton knew he was in trouble. Sometimes that realization zaps boxers of confidence and energy. Not to mention to body language. He was trying to communicate to his corner that he was done, and looked defeated already. That punch just came at the opportune time. Up until that round, it was still close. Trinidad was starting to take control but it was still competitive. Sometimes boxers just lose and it isn't a dive.

Couple things I noticed: they never went to Pendleton's corner between 4th and 5th; he takes a first look over at 18:43 (real quick); then prolongingly at 19:11. He didn't even sell it well, as at 19:13 he was already heading down prior to the punch.

It’s interesting how Trinidad’s opponents tended to lunge in toward him and try to nail him with a looping punch. Trinidad would then find an opening to nail them in the body with a hook or two. That apparently sapped Pendleton’s will to continue.

Pendleton was a great fighter that was managed wrong. Because he was so talented coming into his career he was rushed into fighting fighters that were above his maturation. So, he lost a lot of fights. However as he got older he started to come into his own. By this time, he was past his prime, wasted by his earlier years. Pendleton was never smoke and mirrors.....He could have been one of the greats if he had been manage and trained properly!

This was a fixed fight because you could see Freddie look at his corner to get the signal to go down & take the dive because he was never hurt & he actually was giving Felix some problems in there & even when they clinch he was over powering Felix at times showing he was in great condition & ready for a tough fight & Felix Sr. was getting concerned so Don King gave the signal to Freddie's corner to go down to end the fight to make Trinidad look good.
