That right hand Tyson throws at around 1:44 is absolutely mind blowing…his combination of speed and power is essentially what sets him apart in my mind as a fan from when he was fighting. Such a unique, dynamic, and energetic style. As he aged (and lived hard), he could still land incredible, explosive punches…ask Frans Botha. Even Cliff Etienne…who I watched live when he was on the come up, and he was no slouch. Yet even near the end of his career, Tyson showed quick flashes of that explosiveness, especially in how he used his legs. Loved watching him move his feet with amazing dexterity to change position and/or close the distance…and explode with insanely fast, coordinated attacks featuring combinations like the one he demonstrated on the heavy bag. What an absolute legend.

"Well, with power, a lot of it is natural - you are just born with it like I was myself. But training is important. Chopping wood, lifting hay bales, things like that, that’s what today’s fighters should do - go back to old-school, natural methods of training. My trainer, Archie Moore, he told me to go away and chop trees for two weeks before a fight, and I did and it made all the difference in the world; all the difference to my life. I’d say doing things like that increases you punching power by at least 25-percent - forget lifting weights, that just makes you muscle-bound and takes away your speed. Go back to nature when you train." -Earnie Shavers Source: Heavyweight Legend And “Puncher Of The Century” Earnie Shavers On How He’d Have Done Against The Greats • East Side Boxing • News Archives

0:03 Mike Tyson: Use a strong body punch or body punch feint to make an opening for a head punch. 2:46 Bernard Hopkins: Step to the left to land a left hook to the body or head behind their guard, or to the right to land the right hooks. 4:57 Andre Ward: Fence with the jab, paw to control distance and create openings. Jab to the body to stay long range, slow them down. Fake the body jab and go for the head shot or vice-versa. 9:51 Canelo Alvarez: When throwing a strong body shot, drive the punch into body the moment of impact instead of a tap. 11:10 Gennady Golovkin: When in the clinch, use your forehead and posture to drive under opponent's jawline/chin pushing their head back while throwing your strikes to their vulnerable body. 13:18 Oscar De La Hoya: Keep arm and fist relaxed; when throwing a punch tighten the fist right before impact. 19:01 Canelo: Only time to take a step-back evade on a jab is when the jab lands and you can evade a possible straight cross that follows. 25:48 Lennox Lewis: Leave the lead hand extended to sneak a jab, this brings your hand closer to the opponent without them recognizing it.

The biggest thing my father told me about fighting just in general not only boxing is the importance of inertia...The importance of making sure the punches that you want to knock out your opponents are thrown not only with your arm but your body moving with it too to shift your bodyweight into the force of the punch

Bernard is the king of subtle movements in boxing. Nobody did subtle moves better, you dont know they are happening. If you ever fought somebody like that it is almost impossible to figure out because its so subtle you cant tell what they are doing. Todays dudes are different. They dont the same sort of subtle moves like andre ward, bhop, henrry armstrong. New guys about doing mayweather flashy moves and nothing wrong with that but boxing has changed a lot in the last 10 years. The inside game also. People think of floyd as the shoulder roll guy but if you seem shoudler to shoulder on someone and inside he was so subtle and tricky. Just different now.
