Awesome...but dumb, if you know that the United States navy arms their 40,6 cm guns with APCBC Mark 8 shells. While the movie depicts them loaded with sausages. Well, in one scene it's actually shown that water is impressed (literally) by the muzzle blast, but all other scenes where the 16 inch guns are fired are...surreal. And that's not the "surreal" which you might consider an art form.

The barrel is 50 16" lengths long) Mark 7 cannons, at the range they fired, its not like putting the muzzle against your target .... its more like stuffing your target into the barrel, and then firing....a bullet made of more bullets. Twice. Also, physics says either the flukes would rip off, the shank would rip out of the crown, the ring would rip off the shank, the point that secures the chain to the ship would fail, the chain would turn the hawsehole into a hawsetear down the bow, the chain would snap, but supposing none of that happened the sudden loading on the structure would snap the keel and buckle the hull and ole Mighty Mo would break up as it joined the Yamato on the list of "most expensive coral reefs". Love the fact that these aliens managed to travel to another planet but are sensitive to sun light, dont have windows that can resist 50 cal bullets or higher and didnt put a shield on their spaceships to prevent easy destruction from heavy explosives
@CandleWisp2 ай бұрын
The actual fact is, we don't know what the aliens design their ships to fight. A bullet resistant vest will stop bullets but won't stop a knife. Doesn't mean its poorly designed. Perhaps their design doctrine favors offense over defense. Because maybe weapons tech on their world far outpaces armor tech. So adding more armor is useless. Or maybe, it's the best ship they could send that would function on earth. Example, a Ferrari would drive circles around a lunar rover, but surely won't function on the moon. All in all, there's a lot of nuance to consider.
@Oh-five-six-nineАй бұрын
@@CandleWisp Additionally, there's the theory that the aliens were a mining or scouting party and so didn't have as advanced weapons as they otherwise would've. Or maybe their species is less prone to conflict than Humans and either didn't invent the weapons we would or didn't think they'd need them against us.
@JoshBeck-z5mАй бұрын
Their technology isn’t that far above humanity’s, and it’s very hard to make 50 cal resistant windows that you can still see through. And force fields are a load of baloney.

7:13 “A flicker of flame went up through the rising steam, and then the Martian reeled and staggered. In another moment he was cut down, and a great body of water and steam shot high in the air. The guns of the Thunder Child sounded through the reek, going off one after the other, and one shot splashed the water high close by the steamer, ricocheted towards the other flying ships to the north, and smashed a smack to matchwood. But no one heeded that very much. At the sight of the Martian’s collapse the captain on the bridge yelled inarticulately, and all the crowding passengers on the steamer’s stern shouted together. And then they yelled again. For, surging out beyond the white tumult, drove something long and black, the flames streaming from its middle parts, its ventilators and funnels spouting fire.” H. G.
