As if there was not enough to worry about...the one plant we all thought was virtually impossible to kill has a new disease that is attacking them. The LSU Ag Center is actually the lead agency in discovering the fungus and running tests. It's got the most original name you have ever heard of, Boxwood Dieback disease. And as you would guess it, it causes the plant to die back. The first telltale sign is you will notice random die back in the plant. Some limbs look well and alive while others are dead. The cause of this is a fungus. The cure at this point is going to be a fungicide, however it is so new we are still running trials on how much and what kind works the best. Let us know if you have any questions!

North Texas- I have been spraying with Bonide Copper Fungicide every two weeks this spring and it seems to have saved them.

It's definitely water logged. Its right next to a downspout

I noticed it right next to the gutter drain, could the excess water contribute the problem

Definitely...waterlogged boxwood will lead to fungal infection

Mine are 15 years old, thriving in a raised bed, and got this exactly 11 weeks after my landscaper trimmed the hedge.

Hi --- my new boxwoods have this. after I remove them from the ground i want to replace them with something else. Should I treat the ground with a fungicide ? Can i plant something else in the ground there ? think i would like to plant red tip shrubs , something bigger than boxwoods now, but worried about them catching the disease. what suggestions do you have?

Hey, Boxwood dieback is specific to boxwoods. The soil is fine, it's isolated to the Boxwood. You can replace with new plant material without the new plants being infected. Hope that helps!

I notice in mine it is always the end plant that dies back. I think it may be weather related. The most exposed plants tend to dry out during the winter and summer months.

Did anything help? I just planted 20 young ones and within 3 days from planting they started turning yellow/ brown and thr leaves have curled up... Is there anything i can do to save them?

That’s sounds more like a plant shock situation. The bieback doesn’t show up that fast.

Dang. Me and my neighbors have a few. I think often times they sell them already affected. Because one of mine slowly started showing up after purchase and the other has been totally fine. I didn't know what it was so I just pruned the dead sections off lol. Damn near killed it. It's kind of recovering but the discoloration is back with a vengeance.

Thank you so much for this video. I planted 12 new ones last year and have had this problem. I, too, blamed it on being water logged or not receiving enough water. I know how easy-to-grow boxwoods are suppose to be, so I was very frustrated. Thanks, again.

I have mine for 30 years now and they have been so beautiful just until two years ago I thought it was only an issue of the soil but it’s this dieback 😭 I hope I can save them they mean so much to me what are the best ways to go? And I can’t cut them out all

I have several boxwoods for 5 years and they are very small and I have at least 4 of them with this light brown leaves in them (some of them have already been replaced). I have fertilized them and I have a dripline system. How many years does it take for them to grow?
@Matthewslandscape
@Matthewslandscape 4 жыл бұрын
They are typically fast growers. In 5 years they should have formed a hedge by now. It is possible the soil is clay and not allowing the roots to develop?
