At just 8 years old, Ronnie survived being stabbed 20 times and set on fire by his father, who was later convicted of murdering the boy’s mom and sister. When he was recovering in the hospital, he got a visit from Hillsborough County Sheriff Mike Blair, and Ronnie asked Mike to watch a movie. Danyel Blair, who became Ronnie’s mom, says that she’d already known that they wanted to take Ronnie home with them that night. Five months later, the Blair family grew from seven to eight when they adopted Ronnie.

@@CircussCakeTrue. I still think it's sometimes good to remember horrible cases like this one to get out of a spiral of self-pity. It doesn't minimise the pain you're going through yourself, at least it isn't supposed to, it just broadens your perspective every now and then. Not as in saying "what I went through isn't all that bad", but as in "look, other people suffer too and stay so strong. I'm not alone and I can be strong too."

But he was accused and charged by the district attorney on behalf of the jurisdiction, not by the young child he stabbed repeatedly sweet on fire or the wife and daughter he murdered. There was more than enough evidence to try him without subjecting a victim to that circus.

It is appalling that the legal system allowed that to happen! The monster should never have been allowed to torture his child further in court after what he (the child) had been through. He has so much strength and courage to stand up to his bully of a father after such a terrible life and traumatic experience. I hope though, that it helped him heal from the terrified child to the more confident young man he seems to be now. I hope he is able to conquer the horror he has experienced in his formative years with the help of his loving adopted family. He has a hard row to hoe ahead of him.

Yeah, the American court system is so messed up and immoral to allow what happened. That's outright child abuse. It should be mandatory in situations like this that the child be "cross examined" by a third party. If the person refuses to allow that, that's their problem.

Yeah I dont think it was a big decision at all i think that detective knew that poor child was a miracle to be alive and didn't want him to go through any more pain by not having a caring family to be with. I think that detective automatically knew after seeing the poor heartbreak that baby witnessed and endured that he needed to show him that a father is supposed to love and protect their kids. I think it was an easy decision, if i was in the detectives shoes it would had been an easy decision for me and i would had done the same as he did.

As a black child who was adopted by a white family, this broke and healed my heart. My biological mom did several hard drugs when she was pregnant with me. My parents met me at a month old because they knew the foster parent at the time. My parents looked at her and said “This is gonna be our daughter”. They went to the prison my mom was in at the time and asked her permission to adopt me. 🎉Adopted me at a year and i’m now 21. I don’t know where i’d be without them. They had 3 sons already and they loved me more than anything . Only have 1 sibling alive now but i’ll always be grateful to have found my forever family 🤍.

Its horrible to think that this boy’s mother and sister were murdered right in front of him. And the boy didnt know what was going on and after his mom, he was stabbed 20 times and then set on fire. I think it's better for the court but not for the kid, the more he tries to defend himself from the jury the more they will see how guilty he is, the faster conviction he will get. But as for the kid he will become more traumatized

It may also have been so see what he was gonna do. It might have been bait, but if the case was as messed up as it was, which it was, let him dig himself a hole. Let himself look like a bastard. All the more likely to convict the "father."
