The person that got attacked about 2 years ago was staying at that same boys scout camp. He and another person used their kayaks to paddle about a mile offshore towards Ship Wreck Rock. He was sitting on the kayak when the shark came up from below and latched on to the back of it. It was only a few inches away from bighting him. Eventually the shark let go and swam away but when Danny looked back he found 2 teeth stuck in the plastic. He later made a bronze casting of one of the teeth and he'll show you if you ask him about it.

A very rare incident actually .. Out of all the years people have been going to Catalina Island there have been very few shark attacks, or even encounters. The Boy Scout camp is down past Two Harbors and not really in the main tourist area at all. There is actually a cove called Shark Cove.. So if you go there.. guess what? But even still not many attacks for all the years people have been visiting Catalina. This incident is something, but not common even though there are Great White Sharks in these waters. Younger sharks seem to be the likely culprits. I have dove Avalon beach near the Casino. It is a beautiful place, and I encourage people to visit Catalina Island if you have never been.
