"Shark Week has been around for roughly 30 years, but its content has changed over the years from educational programming, like documentaries, to sensational and mostly inaccurate shows, even going as far as including (or incorporating) faked footage of sharks. Much of the content is centered around mockumentaries, celebrity appearances and sharks attacking humans. "

I saw this on TV and literally thought it was fake due to this is beyond stupid; camera crew and diver just made Johnny Knoxville look like an MIT graduate. The Discovery Channel crew, after learning from their mistakes, has upgraded from 1/4 to 1/2 inch acrylic and will be working on a Polar Bear week segment in the near future.

"A very experienced shark expert"? No, a total idiot. Who couldn't see what was coming? Risking a man's life by putting him in a flimsy plastic box with a great white shark in open water is beyond criminal. He ended up splashing about in just the right way to provoke an attack. Who would have accepted responsibility if he had been eaten on camera? ("Oh, he knew what he was getting into. This has never happened before. Lessons will be learned etc.") Disgusting.

@Frenchfili You shouldn’t speak on what you don’t know, The bait fish were hanging around the cage for cover, they always hang around structure. That white shark circled him to investigate and weigh up it’s prey, it then bumped the “cage” to get a feel for it and decided it could get to him, it swam off to get distance and attacked from a blindspot below. If you look at it’s eyes it was never looking at the baitfish and was completely uninterested in them, it wanted the dude and if that “cage” wasn’t there he would be dead.He was also lucky there was rigging in the water and the shark got tangled in it or when he got thrown out and was splashing around like a retard it would of circled back and taken his soul.

The shark didnt attack. Shark attacks dont look like that. That shark literally just tried to bite that thing because it wanted to know what it was. Same with the surfer in the beginning of the video. That surfer wasnt attacked by a shark. That surfer got bit by a shark because she shark didnt understand what a human was and it was curious to figure it out (yes amazingly sharks can have curiousity). There was no apex predator sht happening in that scene. A real shark attack is much more brutal and devestating

I guess half of the audience if no more agrees with you; plenty of comments here title these "experts" the more apposite name - idiots. The footage is terrifying, though it was pretty predictable. If this clip is even real then the "box" was no more than basic thick single pane glass - not even up to handling an accidental knock from the boat, let alone a purposeful ramming from a multi ton shark that has the power to lift itself all the way out of the water when hunting. *I very much doubt it is - Discovery has a history of faking or misrepresenting content for entertainment during Shark Week. Also the box was surrounded by fish - however that happened it was clearly designed to draw the shark in and confuse it.

I've seen researchers talk about how it is possible that the metal on some shark diving cages may change the sharks behavior and disrupt their senses because of the ampullae of Lorenzini which sharks and rays use to sense the electromagnetic field... but this was designed poorly. The guy was in a position where he was horizontal and looked more like a seal and any strong bump they could easily overturn it. The shark may have been cut by the plastic too. Idiotic design and I would be surprised if the design wasn't purposeful (I mean they designed it to get more interaction from the sharks on purpose and disregarded the diver's safety. Also, after the first two inquisitive bumps they should have reeled him in anyway).

The diver questioned whether it was a shark that bumped the cage the third time, no backup plan to rescue the diver in case the cage had to be vacated, and the repeated footage of the shark with a rope in its mouth, yet the "cage" didn't become submerged, allowing the diver to climb out and swim off into the distance. Dajjal don't wipe out Jews during rapture, he cannot forgive himself (Cos you cannot debunk the meaning of love in my video that exist due to a science theory in book of life) #And jews should not worries cos Dajjal still inform them upon mother nature detected on the surface for 2nd moon survival even none of his comments prevail. Why? Cos only Dajjal can tell, which one is mother nature. And Dajjal don't believe the sun would shoot lava upon him, just because the truth about 2nd moon cannot reach human or something like what hit Japan Sea before the largest tsunami sweep thru Japan in 2011, that came down from the sun. Compared to jews that dare to block Dajjal comments till the truth about 2nd moon cannot reach human since mother nature aware Dajjal cannot ensure the truth about her baby could reach human since evil human exist everywhere in this world, especially those controlling cyberworld. Jews unaware how huge were mother nature? Just refer to Indonesia earthquake that saw sinkhole swallowing trees and houses or how huge were mother nature mouth, which villages aware, how the sinkhole disappeared the next morning. Jews ask those villagers that survived that so called Indonesia earthquake since those smaller creatures that follow mother nature wherever she go indeed like to hunt human, when they asleep. I'm sure those villagers bumped into them, during that earthquake since they keep stating they chased by something that dragging along those lamp poles. Inshort, Dajjal would pray for Jews insense nothing hiding underneath their bed that bound as creatures. #Dajjal just want to fear Jews? Go ask those villagers since everyone aware lamp poles cannot chase human. Somemore only you believe those expert, what happen to that village were earthquake since human cannot run during earthquake. My advice? You ask those villagers better And Australian should not forget to read book of life that exist in my vk profile as a science book. Cos one of the topic is about Australia. Find the link in my video about LOVE since you cannot debunk how love exist due to a science theory.

This guy is “experienced” but he didn’t realize that the shark was bumping the cage to test it. The shark was preparing for an assault. If a shark bumps the cage once it’s alright. But if he bumps it a second time that means he’s testing the cage because he wants what’s inside of it. And the third time he was confident enough to just go for it rather then bump it again.

Thank goodness the diver did everything he learned in his training. When being attacked by a great white, show all your panic and fear and splash your hands and feet as much as you can imitating a wounded animal. Thank you! I just made the same comment and as I said there of course most of us myself included would've been so terrified and rushed to the boat of course, but him being an "expert" I'm just surprised he didn't do what all the shark shows tells us to which is calm your heart and basically don't project a fear ambience and slowly make your way away from the shark and to the boat. Of course easier said than done and like I said I would've gone mental and b lined it too but I'm surprised with him though don't blame him. I just have heard so much about how having an elevated heart rate and giving off the vibes that you're scared favors the shark and will get it's attention.

I’m surprised that no one is bringing up the question whether that shark ingested any of the ‘glass’ shards as its teeth shattered the box. If so, those pieces would surely carve up its insides in a most cruel and damaging way? Did the team consider that aspect when pining for fame?

Yes I was thinking the same thing. And for the shark not to come back to grab him shows that the shark had suffered some sort of pain. But humans mean more than animals I guess. Even though our “inventions” kills them everyday. Especially sea creatures smh.

@@BreGrateful yeah and don’t forget the 50 million tonnes of fish we waste every year. No matter what we do to make changes for the future… it’s already too late. Glad I won’t be around to see all humans wiped

I agree. If you watch the video right after the cage attack, you can see a big piece of the glass in the shark's mouth, and it probably ingested it.

What glass shards? They just said it was a form of plastic. Listen carefully

This to me is probably the best shark attack footage I’ve seen because of all the different angles and how huge it was, how he’s still alive is a miracle, did bits of the “cage” get stuck in the sharks mouth? Maybe that’s why it got distracted long enough he got away? Hope shark wasn’t harmed in any way too.

I think it was the bubbles from the oxygen line; a whale swallowed a squid fisherman once and he was released because of the bubbles coming from his scuba gear
