Hey, this has nothing to do but if meditation muscle movement is thinking every movement you do separetlly and procesing should we do it ALL the time including games?? I mean, isnt it too much to think about every movement and analyze the pitch and your location and everything else allready on our minds?
@collegesoccerguy
@collegesoccerguy 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Meditation is the focus on one aspect for a period of time, which is not really possible, but trying to is important. I don't want you to focus on everything either. I want you to focus on one aspect during your warm-up. Maybe it is the noise your feet make or the sound of the ball. Choose ONE. What this does is keep you present and keeps the other voice out of your head that is always telling you, you are not good enough. Your brain can only hold one thought at a time. By focusing on one aspect and always bringing your mind back to that aspect you become present and when you become present you play at your best. I know you are thinking "well if I am thinking of the sound of the ball then I am not focusing on passing correctly or someone might steal it because I am paying too much attention to the sound. You already know how to play soccer. You will do the right thing, but you won't do the right thing if you are "thinking too much" or if you have a voice saying "don't mess up." Movement meditation is to help you only think about one aspect which makes you present, which in turn puts you into a flow state. You can only enter flow if you are fully present. The voice telling you to do better messes all of that up. So you must somehow distract that voice and a great way to do that is to focus on one aspect. If you don't have a voice telling you to do better and are fully present you don't need to do meditation. Think of a TV. When you are watching TV each pixel is arriving on the screen one pixel at a time at such high speeds that it creates an image. But it is still one pixel at a time. If you can focus on one aspect of the game that is like one pixel. Then all of a sudden you do one movement after another so fast that you don't even know how you did it, which is the equivalent of seeing that whole entire image on the screen. Haven't you had moments where you can't even explain how you did that dribble or goal? If this still does not make sense tell me and I will try and make a video.
@Onatt685

@@collegesoccerguy you probably won't read this but there was an abstract I read from a paper that I thought was relevant. It spoke of people who learn skills faster tend to demonstrate less activity in namely 2 regions of the brain. I just found the paper again and it said the two regions were the prefrontal cortex and the anterior cingulate cortex. They concluded their paper with "'It's the people who can turn off the communication to these parts of their brain the quickest who have the steepest drop-off in their completion times,' said Bassett. 'It seems like those other parts are getting in the way for the slower learners. It's almost like they're trying too hard and overthinking it.'" Just thought it was kind of interesting because the acc is what appears to be responsible for any nagging thoughts in the back of your mind when the situation causes it to arise. Recommending to essentially tune-down the thoughts in the back of your mind when you're about to perform during warm-up seems like a good idea. At least it does from my own experience in when i improved at football the fastest (when i think about key moments in my development and what I was thinking at the time), your experience, and from what appears to be manifestations of what was observed in the study. An interesting thing is that as we grow, we tend to experience more activity in those two regions. And it is commonly shown that kids are better at picking up skills faster than adults. I think meditating like you said, helps us to return to that more innate way of learning. I think its important to see and have the concept of how to do something, sort of a mind framework, which seems to be what the person you were responding to was trying to develop. But I think when you are actually doing it, that's the time to focus and to strip everything which doesn't help. That leads me to a kind of unrelated question I wanted to ask you. When someone has an error in their technique and they know it and want to iron it out, how should they go about that? Because sometimes you think you know the right "thing"/technique, but in reality there is a more optimal way for you to perform the task. So then you have to unlearn and then relearn if you've done it for a long time. But some players appear to almost dribble the same way when they are an adult compared to when they are a kid (messi comes to mind for me on that) so the amount they'd have to unlearn would be less. In the mind of a player encountering this problem during this process I'd imagine they have a lot of error correcting going on in their mind. Because basically their "tv image" is incorrect and they need to change it but there are so many pixels to account for and change to make the correct image Should they be mindless (not really, but i think you get what i mean) and analyze the errors in their technique once off the pitch? Or should they have some things in the back of their mind to fix? These two seem contradictory and the answer probably lies somewhere in-between, but I was wondering what you'd think. When fixing a technique how should they balance being in the zone with being conscious of what they need to change all in order to improve at an optimal pace?

Great questions. What Tim gallway taught me who is the grandfather of this concept is you want to pick a theme thought or something to focus on while you are learning the new skill or trying to fix a skill. A theme though is something objective a fact. For example the sound the ball makes when you hit it and over time it will 1. Either correct itself or 2. Show you that while what you do may not be “normal” or is more effective then what people deem as “normal” is. For example I want my pings to have more back spin and less side spin. I wanted to fix this so badly and consciously tried but it slowed my progression. So then I applied this concept of theme thought and I leanred why my ball side spins and it is because I can do the technique faster and when the ball is under my feet. I also learned that if I want the back spin the ball would have to be much further ahead of me. Great questions! Sorry it took so long

To most families, this is soul crushing if they have a talented 10 year old interested in trying for the top. No wonder the USA does not progress at the top levels. Youth development in the game needs work. I wonder how you are working to make it a more equal system for families. This way, you have to be wealthy and only committed to the kids career. Look around the world and the best do not come from wealthy families.
