As a Dad to a special needs child myself, My daughter was voted as the entire Class' Homecoming Queen. There was no "Special dance/homecoming" for special needs children at her school. So, I absolutely love this!

My first girlfriend had spina bifida, and I wanted to get to know her better, so I asked her to homecoming. She said yes, and we began a relationship. Unfortunately, things didn't work out the way we wanted, but the important thing I take away was my intention was to make someone happy, just like our friend in this video. I wish more people like him existed in this world.

@@daledickerson-r9uas someone who also has Spina Bifida I don’t see anything wrong with the term “disability” as the definition states it as “a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity.” This true because neither me nor that little girl (I’m assuming) can walk and that’s something that causes limitations in our lives. It doesn’t mean we are less than other people, it just means we can’t do something that the majority of people can do and by calling what we have “different abilities” you are willfully ignoring the struggles that disabled people do face every day….of course this is just my personal opinion. That guy is doing better than I did. Both years that I could go to prom growing up, all of the girls I asked either already had dates or just flat out told me no. So…I just went stag both my junior and senior years. I had female friends who I got official pictures with, but it felt more out of pity. I still had a good time both years, but it’s always been one of those things I really wished could have been more memorable.

I just now came across this video and it is inspiring. I was born with myelomeningocele spina bifida and I know the challenges to lead as normal of a life. I was born in 1963 and the doctors thought I would never walk. Now I am 60-years-old and going strong for my age and some complications due to the spina bifida.
