I own two Boykins one won’t hunt much besides hot dogs but the other is an excellent dog for quail , retrieving doves and eventually when we get her on some she’ll fetch ducks great too , there an excellent breed for companionship and hunting.

Turkey hunting is hard. I can't imagine having to deal with a dog while turkey hunting.

Eco never truly got exactly what they are saying the dog is doing! None of it made sense. I’ve been hunting turkey since 2000 and this is a new one on me.

My dad bought a Boykin from John Chappell (not sure on the spelling?) in the early 80’s and to his knowledge it was the first registered Boykin brought into Canada.

What tracking collar do you run? My female Boykin is 17 months old and broke her first flock at 6 months old but I lost her for 30 minutes right after that. She was probably still chasing singles but I had no clue what direction she was in but a fellow hunter located her about 500-600 yards away.

Give it time. They are coming and they have very sweet natures; good hunters, but also will be very happy to play in the pool with the kids. There are a lot of breeds that are known in North America that in Europe, well, nada. Blank stares. For example, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. It's grown quite popular here in New England; it has been given pride of place next to the Chessie. (Imagine the two snoozing by the fireplace, one very fluffy, the other who will open cans of whoopass if you hurt his littler friend) Too many abroad mistake it for an Aussie Shepherd. Almost nobody has heard of the other 5 Coonhounds besides the black and tan; FWIW they have been bred for ages as swamp hounds that simply will not give up until they have found what they are looking for and treed it.

I live in pa as well . I have a beautiful Boykin Spaniel that I was blessed adopt Coco from a spca at 4 months old . I’ve looked everywhere to adopt another Boykin . Where r there breeders in pa or near pa ????
