I finally sent my girlfriend back into the world of Kingdom Hearts to battle the darkness and heartless. A few months ago I introduced her to the series and she had an absolute blast playing through the first game. When I made my girlfriend play Kingdom Hearts 2 I was expecting her to get through it similarly to how she did in the first one, but I forgot how many changes there are between the two titles. Either way, it's safe to say she's hooked on the series now and can't wait to play more soon.

Nah nah nah the true experience is being a kid growing up in the 90s early 2000s with no Internet finding kh1 at a game store waiting years for a sequel seeing an ad for kh2 playing the game being bat shit confused on the intro of the game like who the fuck is that scythe guy wtf is castle oblivion who's this roxas guy only to find out that there was an in-between game that came out on the fucking game boy advance then they made a remake of chain of memories that was a japan exclusive that only had the characters speaking Japanese so my young ass was horrified hearing Japanese Donald and goofy lmao but yeah kh was the absolute fucking worst franchise to understand for chronology and consistency as a kid/young teen

Out of all the people I've seen play this game I don't think I've ever seen someone tackle the worlds out of order. They usually take one look at the recommended level and take the easiest one first. So she got a unique experience, I guess.

I remember playing through Chain of Memories on the Gameboy Advance and going to Twilight Town before KH2 was released and being blown away, they honestly should have kept the CoM 2D view than the full 360 running around.

The thing with KH fans is that we WILL be there when someone new enjoys the games, but we will also demand you play EVERYTHING for our enjoyment haha Edit: Also the contents of that message aren’t revealed in 15 years later KH3. I don’t think KH3 even acknowledges it. It was only like 5 years later for international players in the ending of re:coded then followed up in Dream Drop Distance another two years after that.

Huh, i played Chain of Memories on my Gameboy when it came out. It's the only spin-off I played. You aren't missing much by skipping it. The story is all over the place, and I didn't realize it even connected to KH2 until a decade later, at least

Out of the mainline games, #2 is my favorite. It has some pretty good gameplay and story beats. #1 will always hold nostolgia factor for me. #3... is okay, but had a lot of gameplay and mechanics that I never used (I also miss the interaction mechanics from #2) and is both lazy in its story telling (most disney worlds rip it straight from their movies) and hard to understand unless you've either played every other KH game (including games on psp, ds, and freaking mobile) or watched hours long lore videos spoon feeding it to you.
