Great review, Matt! Despite your warning, I'll still have to watch out for this one. It looks awesome, and I dig simplistic rhythm mini games, so I just might dig it.

You might man but be warned, this game gets haaaaard! If you're not as annoyed by the rhyme game as I am though, maybe it'll be up your street! Thanks as always for watching ;)!

I feel your pain about that Rhythm game challenge. I remember playing _Drakengard 3_ which has an infamous final-final-final boss (it's a Taro Yoko game; of course there are multiple endings) rhythm game section, and the only way I beat THAT was to look up a video on KZbin that put in a Guitar Hero-esque note track (because a. the button presses had a consistent delay for the whole section and b. you could not SEE WHERE YOUR CHARACTER WAS, or WHAT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE REACTING TO, for large chunks of it at the end). I like Rhythm Games, but whenever a rhythm section is inserted into a non-rhythm game, it fills with me dread. The worst thing is a slapped-together, shoddy rhythm challenge that just doesn't feel... right, and demands perfection. Urgh. Anyway, great video dude. Thanks for suffering through this one for us all! Always enjoyable stuff here :)

Oh Christ. I just picked up Drakengard 3. I am very afraid.

Well I hope you enjoy it! It's certainly flawed, the story starts out slow and can be kinda unlikeable initially (it does get REAL GOOD, and weird, and fascinating, and likeable though), and it's technically a bit of a mess*, it's pretty enjoyable and super interesting. It does some things much better than even _NieR Automata,_ like the multiple endings. No awkward "Message from Square PR telling you the game needs to be replayed" in _Drakengard 3,_ no sirree! It handles that whole element MUCH BETTER in an organic way that's actually part of the storytelling despite being weird and quirky and pretty funny. The combat is pretty fun, especially once you find some good weapons and start leveling them up. It was certainly one of my favorite hack-and-slash action games of last generation, despite it's awful, awful final boss. But *UNTIL YOU GET TO THAT BOSS,* there's plenty to enjoy once it gets goin' for ya I reckon, so yeah: Hope you enjoy it when you carve out some time to go through it. * - even though Cavia/AQ Interactive/whoever developed it (can't remember atm :P ) moved up to Unreal 3, their execution doesn't equal that much of an improvement over _NieR_ honestly. The "gating" in the levels where you must wait for a large Sigil to disperse before moving on is particularly bad and gets real annoying; it's clearly masking loads and it is done very poorly - they really should have learned how to stream data in Unreal :P

@@barry-allenthe-flash8396 I picked the first two up after playing the original Nier on the 360, then snagged 3 before prices started to inflate after the success of Automata... It's an interesting series that I really want to play through - Just need the time to go through the PS2 games first haha

I gotta say that this game actually doesn't look bad on the surface, especially as far as the visuals go. Not sure if it's one that I'd like to import, seeing that it has such a strange difficulty curve. Either way, thanks for an interesting review!

Honestly Marius, if it was a liiiiittle more willing to meet the player half way, I'd call it a hidden gem! Just the difficulty combined with my ineptness at the rhyme mini-game really left me annoyed haha... Thanks for watching though - if you do pick it up, let me know whatcha think!

Woof, what a difficult spike. I cant imagine having to progress with the soul challenge of rhythm. I'd be out for sure!

Haha in all fairness, the platforming itself also becomes tricky... The Rhyme game was just there to frustrate me xD Thanks for watching dude!

Great video. Never tried this one, looks interesting aside from the forced mini-games. Man, the caveman theme really was popular in the 90s eh?
@GameBoyle
@GameBoyle 5 жыл бұрын
And I've only scratched the surface... There's still another Bonk game, Prehistoric Man and a ton of 'prehistoric' themed games to review yet haha... It's safe to say Leo, that it was well and truly 'a thing' in the 90s! Cheers for watching!

Yeah, this game is on my wanted list of hard to find Japanese exclusives. Pretty rare game, I think. The graphics and mechanics are all tight. Not a bad game with save states. Awesome job with the video, and having a friend help with the story was a nice bonus. I still wouldn't mind getting a copy, just because the collector in me wants it more for its rarity and coolness factor. I hit that like button when the vid was released on Thursday. Looking forward to your next vid. What's the theme for February? I wouldn't mind seeing more Japanese games or other oddities. :)

I saw it quite a lot in Japan while I was there - I got my copy CIB for about 1000 yen even! If you can't find a copy, let me know and I'll keep an eye out next time I'm there! As for Feb, no theme! It's a 'whatever I feel like playing' month - so chances are there'll be an RPG or something Nintendo as I want a palette cleanser before I cover some of the more obscure GBC games I've got lying in wait haha! Cheers for watching as always dude, the continued support is greatly appreciated!

End of Japanuary and no Moomins Tale review. Maybe next year?

You won't have to wait that long dude ;) I figured it wasn't reeeeally a Japanuary game as it got a European release - also I'm currently learning Japanese, so I'm saving it until I can properly translate the story ;) Rest assured, it'll be up sooner rather than later!

That's a real shame there mate. The game looks really nice. And, from the recording looks nice to play... but the unfair level design has ruined it! Those toys look like the Star Wars Stormtroopers they bought out a few years back. That you link together and they play the Imperial March. Great video as always. Cheers ;)

Thanks for watching man, somehow I missed this comment! Yeah, I actually tried to keep an eye out for the toys on my last Japan trip with no success.. Oh well, maybe next time!

Seems like a flawed game worth picking up for cheap. I don´t expect to clear all of my games, so I might enjoy the 3 first worlds...
