Great review! The game is very much an acquired taste but you highlight the good and the bad in a way that can encourage new comers to give it a go.

Thanks :) It's what I try to do with these videos - some things I'm aware I'm nostalgic about, but you can't really show bias on these things!

Nice candid review Matt! I think i may look at picking up Gojira-kun as i prefer the Japanese Chibi after your previous review. Thanks Matt! Looking forward to your Update video next week!

You know, if you ever do another MayForward, WayForward did a pretty good GBA Godzilla game.
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
That would require me to do GBA games haha! Maybeeeee one day! Thanks for reminding me though, I still need to snag it for the collection!

I don't think I have what it takes to win that game. But I would like to see what it looks like on the GBC with the color palette. Or maybe the Orig DMG with all the greens you would ever want.
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
Trust me Chris, it looks ace on the DMG, though I haven't checked the GBC pallet - I'll have a look and report back!

This game is very extrange, but you managed to discover how to play it and managed to finish it. You teach us new and interesting things every new video. 🙂

I try my best Dennis, though without folks like yourself watching them, I'd probably have given up a long time ago! Thanks for the constant support!

Who knew Gozilla would have a unique way of strategy. But I can also see this being a bit of a slog. But that atomic breath draining your health makes me think of special moves in Streets of Rage haha. Good find man!
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
It's a massive slog, but it's still quite cool haha! Thanks for watching as always dude!

This certainly explained a lot about the game that I needed to know. Certainly not the most intuitive game. But once you figured it out, you liked it! Cool! I'm gonna have to give it another try.

What did you think of it Vinnie? It's an odd duck for sure, but I quite enjoyed how unique it is!

I was thinking about getting this, but with the weird mailing cost makes this 32$ to over 50$ becuase of postage

YIKES. It's not worth that much I'd say dude, just keep an eye out for a cheaper one imo! I'll let you know if I ever see one cheap!

The way i'd describe it is it's not a good game but it is a good kaiju experience. Because yeah it's slow like a giant monster is. And yeah gameplay wise it sucks to take away your atomic breath but it makes it feel so much more satisfying. I don't think it is as good of a godzilla game as any of the fighting games but this does give you a good experience of being a giant monster slowly going through town. It's if rampage had more impact. If you destroying a building felt like it meant more.
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
Yup, I love it for the kaiju goodness, not really because of how it plays. I'd totally just play a ramage-style city smasher though, it would be hella fun! Thanks for watching Lee!

And it appears to be completely playable for a non-Japanese speaker?

Absolutely Gary! There's very little text beyond the intro and enemy names!

Where did you get the music?
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
Give Zophar's Domain a search - they have a lot of music from Retro games :) I used to record sound tests and rip the music myself, but the tunes there are usually mastered properly! Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Am I the only one who finds it weird that "Godzilla" is in English but every other character's lifebar has their name in Japanese characters? That's weird, right? Anyhoo, great review! Never heard of this one, but is sure is interesting! I especially think so considering those boss fights technically make this (at least partly) a GB fighting game, and it's always interesting to see how developers dealt with the lack of buttons on the platform. Automatically forcing the player into Offensive and Defensive modes is a very creative solution, and honestly, seem _super fitting_ to the license. After all, Kaiju are generally not known for lightning speed. All the things that slow this game down genuinely seem to give it the correct pace for what it should be, and for what the hardware could handle. This is a pretty inspired effort! So that's two Godzilla games in a row? If you stick with this IP, I'm curious to see how you feel about the Godzilla GBC games, based on the animated series _in turn_ based on the much-maligned 1998 US movie (that apparently isn't that bad of a cartoon). I've not played either, but I know they were developed by Crawfish - the wizards who crushed Street Fighter Alpha onto the GBC -- so I have to wager those Godzilla titles will at least have one or two interesting, well-made features in there too.
@GameBoyle4 жыл бұрын
The original plan was to cover them as part of 'GOJULY' but I didn't have the time Barry - weirdly, the Crawfish games are somewhat similar to this one, so I wanted to reach out to the devs to hear if that's a happy accident or not, I just didn't get a chance! Oh well, they're both in the 'to-do' pile for sure! Cheers for watching buddy!

Like you said, the controls were confusing at times and the game is really slow passed, but i was able to enjoy the game. Quite time espending and probably too tedious for most pepole, i got stuck trying to kill air enemies sometimes and the final boss, damn.
