I wrestled my senior year of hs and got my ass kicked every time and this video speaks to my heart lol. It was one of the best decisions I ever made because it not only taught me discipline but it got rid of ANY ideas in my head about being able to face a man when guys smaller than me could still kick my ass. I learned the easy way that you really don’t stand a chance against a man in a physical situation like that and I’m more cautious because of it to this day. Great video. Ladies, be careful. Wrestling boys sure will teach you not to mess with them.

I wrestled a girl in high school. She was fast and had great skill as she obviously was trained well..... but it was not fair in any way. The strength difference even at equal weights is 'massive. Technique is important and can win a match but the competitors have to be atleast close to the same strength level. It was honestly like wrestling a 10 year old. She was maybe a tenth of the strength of any guy i ever wrestled. She only scored escape points when i let her up because i didnt just want to pin her in 30 seconds. I commend them for getting out on the map but they should really just have separate gender categories. As someone who stood in the national scene in wrestling and participated in the sport for 14 years, I'd like to chime in here. Out of respect for the decision and the hard work that a girl had put in, to put on the gear and step out on the mat, she earned the right to square off with me. Many people came with the hopes to beat a nationally ranked wrestler, I never once held back because it's disrespectful to your opponent and their efforts. I've met some very good female wrestlers, but the curve is to big post puberty. You can just brute force your way through their resistance easily.
@Mandolin19449 ай бұрын
I appreciated your considered perspective here. It is because of these videos I got interested in the boy-girl dynamic in HS wrestling. I had never much thought about it before. (FYI: I wrestled for 4 years in HS and considered myself at least solid average wrestler -- I was 3rd best -- maybe 2nd 😁 -- in my state senior year. But of course 60 years ago we did not have girls in the sport. Personally I think the whole title 9 thing has been a good thing for girls but a great dis-service (and very unfair) for boys. But everyone has their opinions. As to the boy vs. girl competition I had, on my own, kind of come to the same conclusion as you stated it above. An elite girl wrestler can have some successes against average boys -- especially at the lowest weight classes -- especially with inexperienced or boys who are unusually lacking in strength. But when you start to compare elite boys with elite girls I think that the chances of much success by any girl is rare? Here is a "ball park" calculation I came up with: Since Title 9 there have been approximately 25,000 wrestling matches for a boy's state title ( i.e., 50 states X 40 years X 14 weight classes)! 😀 As far as I know only 3 (maybe 4) girls have won one of those matches (Alaska 2006, North Carolina 2020, Maine 2022)? 😂🤣😂
@johnreed90506 ай бұрын
Girls can have great success at tge lower weight classes. They have a lower center of gravity which makes them harder to take down but once taken diwn its game over. I have wrestled most of my chikdhood and competed against girls. They were treated like any other opponent. I was a spladle king and used that move every time i coukd. I hooked in a girl with it and i got so much heat for it even though i used it on 2 earlier male opponents. The coaches said i shoukd be disqualified even though it was a legal move. I have never seen a girl win any match above the 1445 pound weight class. They get rag dolled because of the strength and speed advantage boys have

There's a lot of talk here about respect for the girls. I see it the other way around: special respect for the boys here, not the girls. Boys are expected to win. If they then win, it's worth nothing and they often feel bad afterwards. If, exceptionally, they don't win, they will be mocked by their teammates and will be embarrassed. A boy can't win anything in a fight like this, one way or the other. With girls it's the other way around. So why would someone who can't win anything but lose a lot in a fight even fight someone who has nothing to lose but a lot to gain?

Three requirements for this type of sporting events and really aspects of life in general: 1. The stablished standards can’t be lowered. 2. The participants can’t complain about the difference in skill, strength and ferocity. 3. The audience and ref can’t be biased/judge either competitor for the reasons in rule 2.
@emilylamb17593 жыл бұрын
Say it again for the girls in the back. It sucks to loose to a boy (and I’m sure it’s even worse for a boy to loose against a girl). However, if girls want to be treated fair we should work just as hard as boys and raise our own standard and not feel like they should be lowered for us.
@Maniacal_Laughter3 жыл бұрын
@@emilylamb1759 Yes that’s it, you prove more by genuinely embracing the spirit of competition in a contest of equal standards than you do so in one stacked in your favor. I am sick of watching those videos showing girls who wrestle against little boys and the video makes it seem that the girls dominate the sport. The false narrative that "girls are better than boys" or "the girls are as good as the boys" leads to a false hope for those young girls who become dominated by the boys after the boys have entered into puberty. It is simply a biological fact that girls physically develop a few years before the boys; however, after puberty, there is simply no comparison.

I have also built a house with my husband and 2 sons, even as strong as I am I cannot physically keep up with them. Sometimes my husband and I spar as if I were to be randomly attacked on the street. I find that it would be very hard if not impossible to successfully fight off a full grown man especially if they were in a rage. I wish women would just choose to excel in the areas we can be successful in instead of taking over everything. I would never want to be chosen simply because of being female. School wrestling is not a common thing in my country, we only had it in the 2nd half of 10th grade (around 16 years of age average) because the new gym teacher we got at that time was into it, only on a soft mat and only on our knees after learning the most basic moves. I was the 2nd strongest in class in terms of raw strength, but kinda sucked at technique, I still won most matches due to strength advantage even if it was close sometimes, only losing against two others, including the strongest in class and one who was almost as strong as I was. Boys and girls were wrestling seperately, no intergender fights, the girls looked so much slower and unsure, the one tomboy we had effortlessly dominated all the other girls and was laughing about how easy it was, she was the tallest girl in our class and seemed a lot stronger than the others, while also being more aggressive. She was complaining a lot about how the other girls were boring to compete against because they weren't into it and were just too slow and weak, she wanted to wrestle the boys, the teacher refused, so she asked the guys to do it off record in the other part of the hall while the teacher was scoring some of the fights, just so that she could go all out for once. The other boys all wanted no part in it, and I understand why, too afraid to accidentally touch in a weird place, not worth the risk of actually losing and becoming a laughingstock, no gain in it, risk of hurting her or being the bad guy. I ultimately gave in and accepted given that we got along well enough and she gave me a verbal pass to touch wherever I needed to, knowing that I would likely not abuse the situation, she wanted me to hold nothing back. I still feel a bit bad thinking about it given that she felt weaker than pretty much all the boys, even the ones that were smaller than her. I did not go out of my way to mock or humiliate her, but she never stood a chance and I could see the shock in her face when she actually understood how helpless she was as her full effort could not move me in the slightest. Mixing boys and girls in the same league only makes sense if both are still very young, once puberty hits it is just a massive handicap match.

In the part of Canada I live in, full contact hockey now begins at U15. I live a small town so there aren't a lot of hockey teams, much worse for girls, so many skilled girls will play on boys team up until U15. At that point, when boys enter puberty and get stronger and more aggressive, the girls (and less developed boys) can get badly hurt and virtually every girl tries to find an out of area girls league or quits. (Back in my day, boys never competed against girls. My now adult sons, however, playing hockey, football, and rugby, did have encounters with girl players and it wasn't pretty if they went in as hard as they would a guy. Sometimes brawn really does decimates brain. And if you have both . . . )
