Nice job kids! And I appreciate the solid, relaxed tempo. Most folks who post hornpipes on KZbin play them way too fast!

Thank YOU very much is what I say, really excellent, like the "innovation" near the end and the way you laugh it off, you've definitely got the spirit of these tunes, I'm gonna use your rendition to learn them meself.

A delightful medley, full of energy and infectious good cheer! Ah, but only if the artists who starred in this recording would name all four tunes in their medley, and perhaps give their names (or at least where you're from, if you're the shy type). It would be great to hear what they're playing now, almost four years after this posting ...

Nicely played by the youngsters, but I'm pretty sure it was from the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland
@JimBell198413 жыл бұрын
Not actually and Irish tune, it's Northumbrian
@eldendir9 жыл бұрын
Hi. Lovely as that was played, Boys of Blue Hill and Harvest Home are not Irish tunes. I can't speak of Greencastle as I know nothing of it. The other two are Northhumbrian.
@mgkeoh9 жыл бұрын
*****, Hi. I,m not sure about the origins of Boys of Bluehill, or Greencastle. But the last one Harvest Home, was written by Harry Coleman, sometimes known as the Cork Hornpipe. I play banjo with his two grandsons and nice sometimes in London all the time. Regards Michael Keohane

Yea you tell em Pat! Cause these talented youngsters sound Irish to me so if what they're doin is music then that must be Irish music must'nt it, stands t'reason. Good on ya mate.

Ye can'aye ev'n spell Northumbria ya ijit.

I agree and I'm Irish. The north east of England is Hornpipe country - must be the navy influence. Another very popular English hornpipe in Ireland is 'The High Level' composed by a guy named Hill from Newcastle to commemorate the opening of the High Level bridge nearby. Irish musicians have kept the tunes alive though.
@cleanupcowboy58416 жыл бұрын
Always difficult to supply histories of musical pieces? Why are they Northhumbrian? I once heard a Peruvian harper playing a tune from the isles. He didn't claim ownership or origin. He just played it because he enjoyed the tune? There were many tunes that made it across the Atlantic and back. I'm sure that if you ask any American about the origin of the tune "star spangled banner" they would certainly say that it is an American tune. (it's not)

Lovely choice of chords on the guitar on all tunes!
